Seriously. Dd and I went to Target to buy her a bathing suit for summer. Fortunately they still have them, although they're on sale. Lots of summer stuff on sale. And several racks of knit long-sleeved turtle necks. Yes, I know all about how the seasons run into one another in stores. But school isn't even out yet!

Must be by location because I was in my local Target yesterday and it was all summer stuff.

I did a thread about this last season and got the pea finger... but I will say it again.. drives me nuts!!! I just realized (beginning of JUNE) that my little one didn't have a swimsuit.. ran over to Target and it was slim pickings. And I did notice long sleeved stuff... but it happens every year.. next week Christmas stuff should be arriving.

I am probably in the minority, but I don't like that at all! It only started getting warm here a few weeks ago. I feel that fall/winter last so long and spring doesn't exist and summer doesn't last long enough. It really depresses me to see anything related to fall before the end of Sept.

But, I will save money, as when fall stuff appears, I stay away (haha!!).

I hate it, too. There is no reason that I shouldn't be able to buy a nice pair of shorts in August for back to school. It will be hot for 3 more months here. Why would I go back to school shopping for clothes that aren't close to being in-season?

Someone on Facebook posted a picture of Christmas stuff in stores yesterday. I think it was Hobby Lobby, so I can kind of forgive it since crafters may need to start realy, but still...

I've run into this several years in a row.

Last year I decided to get my daughter another bathing suit in early July and really had a hard time finding one in any department store.

It's really only been "hot" summer weather the past 2 or 3 days here in Chicago. We need to have summer first!

I was just in Target too and didn't see any fall stuff yet, but I'm sure it'll be soon. My mom says it usually comes out in full force after the 4th of July.

I did convince my 13 yo DS to get an extra bathing suit. Here in Southern CA, June is chilly sometimes, but by July/August, he's in the pool/beach a lot, so an extra suit is handy.

Ugh. No way! It's going to be hot here for months and months (we don't start to cool down until October). We won't be ready for long sleeves until December.

I hate that.

I hate it to. Last year they started the back to school section in June before the kids were even out of school. It was nuts. It makes it really hard for those of us that may need shorts for the start of school if our kids grow over the summer.

I am hoping though that this means I may be able to find a lightweight hoodie for my son. He needs a new one I didn't realize how much he had grown and we will need on in the next few weeks.

I know they will always be ahead of the season and we should plan ahead but sometimes kids grow more than you think they will and it is difficult. It is especially bad in places where we need shorts and summery clothes year round.

I can't figure out why stores think that consumers will buy things so far in advance. I can't think about winter clothes when it's 90 outside, nor can I think about bathing suits in January. Who buys this stuff?

The temperature is currently 97 with a heat index of 107. I'm going to pass on the fall/winter clothes for now!

The fashion industry has always been putting out new collections before the current season has barely begun. They are not going to change so you just have to plan ahead. Doesn't mean I have to like it though!

I was just in our Target about 60 minutes ago and no fall stuff yet but then again up here in the extreme northeast summer hasn't really arrived yet so it will be another month before the fall stuff shows up

Haven't seen that in Target yet and I was just there over the weekend. But Hobby Lobby had all their fall decor out. I figure the Christmas trees will be out by next weekend.

Kohl's had their back to school uniforms out already. Kids barely out of school and they have to put those out? Really?

I used to work at Hobby Lobby and I do remember getting all that xmas stuff in so early, but yeah, crafters are out buying it.... I think Christmas in July sale if their first BIG sale for that stuff.

For the first time ever I am soooo glad stores put stuff out early. We are moving internationally at the end of July and I have to buy my kids school clothes before we leave. I'm counting down the days until it starts showing up in stores. Turtlenecks is a bit much though.

That's obnoxious. We had an unseasonably cold winter here (metro Phoenix even got snow!) so we went to Target to get some winter things. It was January. Not a scarf or a glove to be found, but there were plenty of bikinis!

I always find that annoying. We went to the mall to get dd a swim suit this weekend. There were still pretty good pickings but not great.

I didn't see any fall stuff yet, though I know it won't be long. School here just got out last Tuesday and they don't go back until after labor day. Summer is just really starting here!

I do understand the craft stores, because it takes awhile to make things. So crafters would have to have it early. But not the clothes.

There weren't too many at my Target yet, but still... Right next to the sale racks, the ones where they stuff everything and have the signs for 30%, 50% and 75%, were the knit turtle necks.

And for whoever in this thread said they needed a hoodie for one of their kids, try a thrift store. That's always my go-to when I need something that I can't find in a full-price store.

We have had "summer" for several months already. I think it is nice to be able to find swimming stuff by April because we are swimming in April.

I think winter stuff is 99% useless where I live, *ever*.

Retail is on a different schedule than everyone else. I'm sure that those in Alaska are thrilled to be able to find winter clothes in September. Not everyone has the same seasons at the same time.

And it's not new. This is how it has been for decades. Shop early. Plan ahead. Know it will change out at the store before you say goodbye to the season, and it's not a big deal.

I hate it to. Last year they started the back to school section in June before the kids were even out of school. It was nuts. It makes it really hard for those of us that may need shorts for the start of school if our kids grow over the summer.

We have year round school. We start up July 15. I think it's perfectly fine to be able to find stuff on sale for back to school in June, when I *need* to purchase it. I swear people live in the craziest bubbles. So your kids weren't out of school in June. Mine have been out for several weeks and are gearing up to go back.

We should swap! It's winter here and all the stores are beginning to put out spring and summer clothes. The coldest time is usually the end of July into August. I keep saying that one day the next season's clothes will be out so early that we'll actually be able to buy it in the correct season!

This is super encouraging!!! Texas summers are brutal. If I can trick myself into thinking it is close to finished (when it barely has begun) I will do a lot better.

Maybe if we all waited to buy these summer things until June, we could all get it on clearance. Save us money and teach the stores a lesson.

Although I have to admit, I am a summer lover (sorry, I just am) and it doesn't bother me to see bikinis in January! But it drives me crazy to see fall stuff and Christmas stuff in July.

I was in our Staples a couple weeks ago, and it looked like they were starting to put out the back to school stuff. I laughed because school wasn't even over for the summer in the town I live in. (Staples is in the same town that I live in.)

I don't think "customers" will drive the stores back to more in-tune with the calendar selling.

Items are ordered nearly a year ahead of time, fabrics, notions, etc... are manufactured, then the clothing items are constructed, and finally shipped, arriving almost 6 months ahead of the (seasonal) need, but because no one has warehouses or "back-rooms" to hold inventory, they are put on the selling floor as soon as they arrive.

So, if you want "winter gloves" buy them in August, come December you will only find bathing suits.

It is crazy!
