OK, my son talked me in to rooting my Nook Tablet. I fear change, but let him do it on an SD card and it's great so far. I figured I'd try out the Google Play store before I went and upgraded to a Nook HD-which is SO tempting right now.

Soooooo, if you're in here, you've rooted your Nook. Now, can you tell me what are the things you do with it that you didn't do before? What do you enjoy using that isn't available on the Nook interface?

I'm still trying to set my stuff up to where it's comfortable for me-and somewhat familiar (you know, that fearing change thing...).

FWIW, I'm running CyanogenMod..........I figure if I don't like it, I'll just get him to remove the SD card and go back to my boring (his words) little Nook.

I did mine, over a year ago.

I basically use mine as a giant phone, minus the phone ability, I guess. I've run Netflix, all my Twitter clients, heck, just about anything you can imagine.

I just liked it a lot better after I got done with it. Kind of an Android tablet, before Google came out with the Nexus.

I did and hated it. It was ugly and not at all user friendly to me. Made son put it back (he was the instigator, too).

Nook now runs google chrome and the google play store natively so you have access to all the stuff for real now.

And hd+ was on sale last week for $149. A HUGE savings. Not sure if it still is.

Hahahaha! What is it with these boys? I never could get a good answer of just how much this change would benefit me.

I did download the Kindle app, so I guess I could get kindle books, but I was pretty happy with the way it was before the root. I think my boy just wanted a new project!

I don't think it's truly rooted if it is only on the SD card. I did make the SD card for both my DH and I. I use it more because I use the kindle app to read. I can switch mine back and forth at will so I like it.

Rooted means something else in Australia.

It's funny reading these replies with our definition in mind.

It just means that you can now use your tablet as an Android device, instead of being bound by the constraints of the Nook system. It's nice--like the other poster said, kind of like a smart phone, without the phone.

Thanks Wannapea.

TalissaAmity...that cracked me up! I know what it means in Australia. I'll probably giggle when I fire up my Nook tonight.

Wannapea - I was at the B&N website today. They have extended the sale on the HD and HD+, $129 and $149, respecitively. Awesome deal, if you are of a mind to upgrade.

As for the boys - when I upgraded, I handed my tablet down to the son who rooted it. He still keeps it that way. He likes it better, he says. Me, not so much

Thx for the info! Yep, I want the new one-BAD!

You ladies have me wondering what "rooted" means in Australia. I'll have to look it up......
