We are headed out for a date night. We only go to the movies maybe 1-2 times a year together so we want to pick a great one. They both have good reviews so maybe we can't go wrong with either one. Just wanted the peas pick! TIA

I say Gravity. If you were like me I was on the edge of my seat. DS went with me and I kept grabbing his hand or arm. I told him it would be a good date movie!

Take this with a grain of salt...

I have not seen Captain Phillips. But I did see Gravity. I'd say there's a really good possibility that Captain Phillips will be better. I thought Gravity was 'eh'.

I haven't seen either so I can't give any first hand suggestions. But, here is what a friend of mine posted about Gravity on FB yesterday after seeing it.

Just went to see "Gravity." What an awful movie! Too many technical flaws to name. Only two people in the movie: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, both gave sub average performances. Plot not as good as Batman. Sandra Bullock jumped from space station to space station and finally landed a Chinese type Soyuz capsule all by herself, using eenie, meenie, miney, moe at the controls. Holy Moley, Batman! Grade F. I can't believe what people see in that movie...

Only see Gravity in 3D IMAX. It's spectacular, but only that way. Otherwise, CP.

I've seen both and hands down Captain Phillips was SO MUCH BETTER! I seriously don't get the hype over Gravity?

I saw them both and both are great choices. But since Capt Phillips is based on a true life event, I found it more intriguing.

I have seen both, as well, and I gotta say Captain Phillips. We saw Gravity in Imax 3d and I still thought it was just "eh".

Thank you!!! Captain Phillips it is!!! I don't do 3D (makes me feel sick) so I think CP would be a great choice. Maybe Gravity on DVD when it comes out.

I saw Gravity in 2D and absolutely loved it. Sandra Bullock better get an Oscar for her performance. IMHO, Gravity needs to be seen on the big screen, with an audience.

Captain Phillips looks like a TV movie to me. I can wait for HBO or Netflix.

I also have seen both and agree, totally, with amom23. I really was a bit disappointed with Gravity and sure wouldn't pay the extra money to see it in 3D. CP was excellent all the way through, but the last 10 minutes was awesome, and made the whole movie even better.

Definitely Captain Phillips. Gravity was very boring. Capt. Phillips was heart pounding! Great movie.

I haven't seen either one of them. Yet. But I'd say go for Captain Phillips. I plan to see that one, but not Gravity.

I wouldn't see Gravity unless it was 3D. The visuals were amazing. But I am a bit afraid of heights so I was queasy for the first ten minutes.
It was like Silence of the Lambs--I'm really really really glad I saw it, but it was so unnerving that I probably wouldn't watch it a second time.
But I am glad I went. It was beautiful.
