Here is the one I posted on the other thread:

From the older generation (my mom and her sisters): Dinner is not yet completely out, get out of the deviled eggs and olives. 3rd generation, get the olives off your fingers.

From the younger (and spouse of the about): If the deviled eggs or olives are visable, we are going to eat them. Then we are going to blame one of the cousins or uncles or kids as we pop an entire deviled egg in our mouths. You know we are going to do this, try to hide them better next year .

From the 3rd generation: But the olives fit on my fingers.

Tribbey: I believe, as long as Justice Dreifort is intolerant toward gays, lesbians, blacks, unions, women, poor people, and the first, fourth, fifth, and ninth amendments, I will remain intolerant toward him! [to Ainsley] Nice meeting you

From my growing up years, NO CHIPS ALLOWED!!! Mom would get irritated if anyone brought chips with them. Us kids were not allowed to fill up on chips and then not eat the dinner she worked on all day. Surprisingly I have that rule now as well!!!

When one says "please pass the rolls", that does not mean toss a roll through the air, down to the other end of the table.

I haven't eaten beef since I was 16 years old or turkey in about 8 years.... do NOT try to force me to try "just a little taste" or crow about how it's sooooo good and I don't know what I'm missing. I ate that stuff for years and years and yes, I DO know what I'm missing!

Otherwise, all good.

Keep your fingers out of the food until I serve it!

Also, not a rule, more of a "heads up"...if you arrive 2 hours late with no phone call, the food will be cold. Everyone else will be done eating. You can heat it in the microwave yourself. I am not waiting on you. Thankfully, this person no longer comes to our house.

I said we would be eating starting at 12:30. Do not tell people to go ahead and get started at 12 because only a couple families aren't here yet. Start filling your plates at 12:30 if the people have not arrived but if they have called and said they are going to be about 5 minutes you can all wait to eat. 30 minutes or more people can go ahead and start. Geez!

PLEASE do not feed the dogs tid-bits from the table. They have eaten, they will not starve and they all are great actors. Look at the people at the table, not the "puppy eyes" they are giving you.

My family's only rule is "no turkey- no ham".

None of us can stand it and we usually have something like a huge spaghetti meal or fajitas instead.

This year we had Jack in the Box because my oven stopped working this morning while baking cookies. No oven = no lasagna.

The only rules we had were dog related. The dogs weren't allowed to stalk the dining table during the meal, and no one was allowed to give people food to the dogs.

(My mom does give them turkey later, but she doesn't want them receiving endless hand-outs, especially from the kids who might give them something they shouldn't have.)

We let the olive fingers slide and a few rolls were lobbed as well.

Just remembered an "insider" rule we have:
When dinner is served at 2:00 and we invite you to come early, all those who show up by noon will be served the yummy shrimp & cream cheese appetizer. All those who show up at 1:00 will probably see the dirty platter and a few cracker crumbs. And we don't feel guilty. Full, but not guilty

The rule in my house is no one eats until everything is served. Unfortunately my MIL does not have the same rule, and her ignorant 45 year old son will stalk her until she has the turkey carved so that he can make his plate (turkey and stuffing only) and go back downstairs and eat it all alone. A-hole.

If we say dinner is at 1:00. We eat at 1:00. We will not wait for you, but tell the quick eaters not to eat seconds. If your over an hour late, all bets are off. No way is over 30 people waiting for a few stragglers.

We don't have any rules. If you're a member of the family or a close friend you're welcome to show up! We don't stand on ceremony so if you want pie before dinner...have a piece of pie. When the food is ready get up and grab a plate, find a spot to sit and make pleasant conversation. I love our relaxed family Thanksgivings.

On one side of the family: The vegetarian (me) shall carve the turkey, because she's the only who knows how to. And because she can't snack on the tasty tidbits, anyone within arm's length will be hand fed the tasty tidbits that fall off during the carving.

On the other side of the family: The vegetarian shall be mocked good naturedly about not eating turkey, the meat based stuffing and the gravy. However, the meat eaters will enthusiastically take portions of the vegetarian stuffing, gravy and tourtiere... leaving the vegetarian with only one serving of each.

On both sides of the family: The vegetarian shall bake.

It amuses me.

Older generation...we eat at noon sharp. I watched my mom get up at the crack of dawn for years to get that turkey ready to be eaten at noon sharp. Then we all passed out all day long in front of the TV.

Now...Here's some yummy appetizers...we'll eat when the food is ready. This lets us all just enjoy the day and relax. We all putter around in the kitchen helping out and snacking on the appetizers til it all comes together, usually around 3 or 4:00. We can take breaks for a game of catch or bball, go for a walk, play a board game...whatever we want since there's no rush to get the food on the table. It works for our little family.

We also make at least one casserole and a pie for the night before. There's always too much food that day anyways and everyone hates to wait on pie!

Our only rule is that the youngest teenish kid has to do the ice. You know, put ice in cups and out so that the rest of us can just fill a cup with the beverage of our choice?

It has become a joke, everyone runs and hides when the ice conversation comes up.

Along with that though would probably be the ancillary rule about if a grown up asks you to do something, you do it. And by grown up I mean if my aunt (65) asks me (47) to refill her wine glass, I do it.
