We are attending a special event at Pottery Barn Kids and have previously dined at Capitol Grille the last several times we've been there. The lobster pot pie to die for but I did promise dh we can try something different. Nothing on the upscale end as we'll have our 3 yo with us.

Any positive reviews for Lawry's by chance? That seems right up my dh alley.

Thanks all!

The Lawrys's at South Coast is not like the traditional Lawry's restaurant. Not that impressed. You order at the counter and they bring you the food. They do have a Rainforest Cafe at South Coast which is fun for kids and not bad for adults if you've never been there before.

Don't think South Coast has really great dining experiences. I usually eat at Nordstoms or Wahoo's.

If you don't want upscale and you have a preschooler with you, I'd recommend Corner Bakery. I'm pretty sure it's on the same side of Bear Street as PBK. If you don't mind crossing the Bridge, you have a lot more to choose from and it's usually a lot less crowded. Ruby's and Wahoo's are really kid-friendly. My daughter likes to go to Pacific Whey with my 2-1/2 year old granddaughter too. It's similar to Corner Bakery, but I don't think it's as good and it's more expensive.

Rainforest Cafe and McDonalds closed down last year.

Sorry, didnt know Rainforest had closed. Now that my dd is grown and in college I don't hit that area of the mall anymore. Guess there really isn't much there. For as big as the mall is their dining choices aren't much.

It's the closest mall to my house. Second closest it Westminster. I loathe Westminster Mall, the stores are all for teens or are stores of cheap stuff. I only go there if I want to go to The Limited. South Coast Plaza is equally bad in the opposite direction. The stores there are too expensive. I go for the Macy's and Sephora. I usually just end up window shopping. The window shopping is great there.

Scott's is nice and so is seasons 52.
I think there's still a Maggianos in the parking lot on the Sears side of the mall too
There's also a claim Jumper

We've eaten at Quattro Cafe many times and I really like it. It's on the first floor not far from Macy's. It's mostly Italian, but with some yummy salads and sandwiches. (Try the filet mignon sandwich - to die for!)

Wow, I remember going there in elementary school when they still had a Woolworth. Hard to think McDonald's didn't make it there. Haven't been there in years even though I live about an hour south of it now. Have a cute pic. of now 17 yo DD in a stroller as a toddler shopping there.

If you like Italian, Maggianos is good. And it's usually noisy enough that a 3 year old would be fine.

There is a restaurant there called Ztejas Grill. It is Tex Mex, casual and perfect for kids!

Go south a couple of blocks on Bristol and check out the restaurants at The Camp. It's a great collection of shopping and dining. The camp

I'm surprised to hear that Rainforest Cafe closed. We were there last summer, and the mall was so empty. My favorite restaurant at South Coast Plaza used to be the Magic Pan, crepes, but that's long gone.

Nordstrom Cafe is always a good choice. Kid-friendly, yummy food, great coffee.

There is a Panera Bread just outside the main mall.

Lowry's is great for a quick meal. Like sitting outside, they have heaters when it is cool outside.

I've gotten nothing new to add as what I would recommend has already been mentioned. I was going to recommend ANQI in Bloomingdales but then I read there would be kids. It's Asian fusion and they have the best garlic noodle dish. I might have to go there for lunch today.

Henny Button, I live across from Westminster and couldn't agree more! Man that place is a dump. I'd rather go to the OC Swap-meet. Fashion Island is my favorite.

Thanks everyone for their recommendations. I'd love to try Seasons 52 but since our 3 yo will be with us, though he's excellent in restaurants, I think I'll keep that in mind for another time.

A cafe sounds good. We'll look into those options. I'm pregnant and have been almost bedridden this last month so I'm excited to be getting out but have to watch how much walking I'll be doing. I have hyperemsis and it's horrible. Zofran nor Promethazine works for keeping my sickness at bay.

But I'm looking forward to getting my favorite truffles from Godiva if they are still there.

We always go to Ruby's when we have the kids with us. But my favorite restaurants are at The Camp and the anti-mall just down the street.

Habana at the anti mall is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Their Cuban pressed sandwich for lunch... DROOL! Not really kid-friendly necessarily, but oh so good!

I was just thinking about that place recently. They were so good. That was over 20 years ago though.
