There used to be a place in Motley, mn. Not sure if its still there. I dont remember if it was just to rent out or actually held events anyone could attend.

Archiver's sponsors a Scrapfest every year at the Mall of America. It is usually in September. I have never been there, but I have a friend that goes every year and says it is awesome.

Here is the link for last year's crop. I haven't seen any info for 2012.

We are looking more for like a retreat,(stay in one place, like a hotel or resort and scrap for 2-3 days 24/7) not a crop. I also can't imagine lugging sb stuff in to MOA..sounds like a nightmare!!

I usually go on a retreat in St.croix falls, Wisconsin (Whispering Pines is the name of the house we stay in) hosted by a creative memories consultant. It's only about an hour from Woodbury. I didn't really know the group when I started going- but I've gone with them for a few years now and they are all great. There is one in July and I can't go b/c my son is playing in a state tourney for baseball that weekend. If you are interested I can see if my spot is still open. crop goes Thursday thru Sunday and is $117. Let me know and we can connect.

I believe the website is www.whispeingpines.com
This retreat is mid July and they may have 2 spots open. I can get you in touch with the organizer if you want. The place is great- they have a cricut machine and computers with wide format printers and it is pretty darn affordable in my opinion. There are 3 bedrooms that sleep 4 people each. I am really bummed to miss it- it is seriously one of my favorite weekends of the year. I believe they may also do a winter one (January I think) but I don't go to that one b/c I am always over scheduled in the winter with my son's hockey schedule.

I know of a couple, but I am drawing a blank on the names. There are a couple in Hinckley, and one in Hutchinson. I have been to all and they are GREAT. I will look them up and let you know.

Ok here they are. Again, all SUPER nice, clean and the rooms are great.

Hutchinson:
pheasantrunretreat.com

This one is really homey and cozy. And it's very new. Rambler style home with walkout basement. Big tv and couches downstairs.

Hinckley:
countrygardenretreat.com

heritageplacemn.net

These are both great. I think I prefer Country Gardens though. They have a really nice family room downstairs and a big tv. Really feels like home. They have 2 retreat houses -- we stay at Emma's Retreat.

Oh and I just remembered another one!

Some gals in my group have gone to a place in Waconia, MN a couple of times and loved it. It's an old, quaint house that has a lot of charm. You might want to check it out (but I think it would be farther than you'd want to travel).

I'll be all moved in by end of August and would LOVE to go on a retreat and relax after traveling 1900 miles from California.

I was thinking of go to the one at MOA, but the more I read about, I agree with CindyUpNorth, the hassle of bring all that 'stuff'. Not worth it.

Anything new the Willmar, New London area? I will not know a soul either.

Cindy...

That is where hubby's sister lives. He wants to move to Willmar, I'm saying fine, but let's ALSO look at the surrounding areas. Who knows, we could find the PERFECT house to buy outside of Willmar.

Do you know anything about the area? I'm from California, and have really seen it all. I can live almost anywhere, as long as the 'rif-raf' stays away from me, LOL (if you know what I mean).

Tell me your honest impression or feeling of Willmar, please. I know all cities/states has their good and bad, and have lived in both.

Willmar is ok. It's small. It's had it's problems lately I know with crime. It had a high influx of illegal migrant workers move to the area. Some were illegal, some legal. But there's been some trouble with gangs in the workers, from what I've heard. It might have been cleaned up by now. ??
There are alot of other small and bigger towns nearby. Alexandria, and St cloud are bigger, and have more to offer. Alexandria is a nice town.
My hometown is about 30 mins from Willmar.

Hi Cindy and Carol,
Not sure if you are still looking for a retreat in MN to attend, but I received an email from the scrapbook store in the Brainerd/Baxter area today advertising a retreat at Breezy Point. If you are interested in more details, pm me and I can forward you the email.

The scrapbook store is called Memories for the Making and it has recently been taken over by a new owner and the location is supposed to move from Baxter to Brainerd sometime in August. Not sure if there is any information about the retreat on the scrapbook store's website or not.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Crafts Direct in St. Cloud, but I love this store and it has a huge scrapbook section!

Here's a link to Crafts Direct blog for an upcoming scrap weekend. This does not include the hotel and is held very close to the store. I haven't attended but have heard a lot of positive comments.
Scrap and Stamp

You can also use the classroom in Crafts Direct free anytime as long as it isn't already scheduled for another class.

Here's the link for the store's website in case you're interested in seeing the class/event schedule or their sales ad.

I *love* Crafts Direct, too. It's my favorite craft store in the area. Also planning on going to the Little Falls art/craft fair this year again.

I forwarded the email to you, Cindy. Hope you got it! I think the email included the current address of the SB store in Baxter. It's off of Highway 371 kind of by Pizza Ranch and BWW. Across the street from Target and Fleet Farm. It's in a little strip mall that faces sideways to the highway. Easy to miss. I am not sure exactly where she is moving to but it is supposed to be near the McDonalds in Brainerd. ( Not the one by Cub )

Cindy - I've been to Raspberry Ridge by Motley - nice facilities. Their website is: http://www.raspberryridgecabin.com/Info.html

Cathy - I live about 40 minutes from Willmar. It has a smaller town feel with some convenient amenities. The New London - Spicer areas are also nice. What type of environment are you looking for?

Hubby actually as a an appt to see the realtor for a few homes - Willmar, New London, and I can't recall the other city. All are within a 20 mile radius of Willmar where his sister lives.

Hubby an brother leaves tomorrow, the 17th and should take them 3-4 days depending on traffic, weather, I guess.

I'm excited - this is a HUGE move for me.

Cindy,
I just wanted to let you know that the scrapbook store in Baxter will have already moved to Brainerd by the beginning of September when you come down for the Little Falls craft fair. I didn't want you driving around the old location thinking I was leading you to the wrong place. If you need the address for the new location, let me know. I am sure it is on her website, too.

Cindy,

I know of a couple that are south of the metro...both owned by lovely ladies I have known since high school.

One is in Maiden Rock, WI (probably about 1.5 hours SE of St. Paul
the lodge retreat

And one is in Mazeppa, MN (15 minutes from Rochester)
reflections retreat

I've been to both and they are both fabulous and affordable. The Lodge is huge and can accomodate a very large group. Reflections is very peaceful.

Cindy,
I emailed you at your regular email address. Hope that is OK. It was easier than copying and pasting here. I just forwarded on to you an email from Memories in the Making since she has the directions at the bottom of the email. There was also a coupon you can print off, if you are interested. If you aren't getting the emails, I can forward you the September email when I get it so you have a coupon when you drive down for the craft fair. Just send me a reminder if I forget.

ETA: What's BIR? Trying like crazy to figure it out. I am sure it is something obvious...
