Once I saw those colored tires on Mika Beth's blog a few months ago, I knew I had to give it a shot. This super fun Senior was up for anything and I think we were able to get some fun shots using the tires. And I've included some river images as well. I was waist deep in the river (in my pants!) to get these shots. I love shooting seniors!

The tire pics were taken at an abandoned metal building. I don't have a studio (yet). Maybe someday. But for now I'm having fun shooting at lots of different locations. | |

Are those just regular old tires? Did you spray paint them? I love them for seniors and think my boys (1 and almost 4) would love them too. |

Yes, I (well, technically my husband) painted regular old tires. I got them from the tire repair shop for free. Just went to the shop and asked if I could take any of their discarded tires off their hands. They happily agreed. Got the paint from Lowe's.
Thanks for the comments, ladies. This is one of my first senior sessions (that I've done by myself) and I loved every minute of it.

More questions --- did you use can paint or spray paint? How much did it take to cover the tires? |

Nancy-I'm sure the sight of me waist deep in the river wearing regular, everyday clothing with a camera in hand was weird for those who "don't get it." Even my high school senior said "when you said water shots I didn't know you were going to have to get IN the water!" Me either. LOL. But I was shooting with my 85 and the road was too far away to stand to get the kind of shots I was going for. And besides, I never ask my clients to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.
Emily-I believe my husband primed them first with spray paint. And I believe it took 2 cans of (colored) paint to fully coat the tires. When my husband gets home from work I'll ask him the brand of paint he used, etc.

I like those tires I have a huge pile of old tires in my backyard that were left here by the previous owner (he left a LOT of his junk behind!). I would love to clean them up and paint them. I have had so many ideas for them. I have been waiting until the weather really cools, though, becuase in the warmer months they were full of hornets and spiders and who knows what else! |

I have four old tires that I want to do this to. I just can't make up my mind what colors to use! DH was going to pay the garbage man to throw them away; he thought I was crazy when I said no way!
I would like to know what kind of paint your husband used too. My husband is coming home to visit at the end of the month. This could be a good job for him!
