Hi everyone! The classes will be starting this Tuesday (Jan. 19th) and a new topic will be introduced every Tuesday for the next several months. ANYONE is welcome to participate!

We are so lucky to have some outstanding coaches lined up, and the topics that they will be teaching are full of information that will hopefully benefit many of us. I am giving them the title of "Coach" rather than teacher, because I want this to really be a team effort with lots of encouragement, learning, helping each other and having fun!!!

The coaches are very generously giving of their time and knowledge, so for their benefit (and to keep things running as smoothly as possible), I do have a few guidelines that I would like you to be aware of. Thank you to everyone for doing your best to follow them and help us keep this going.

Sometime on Tuesdays, the weekly coach will start a new thread, giving their lesson and/or examples of their work pertaining to the lesson topic. Within that same thread, the students can then post their questions, images for CC and advice, and thoughts. The coaches will do their best to return to the thread at least once a day (however, due to their schedules this may not always be possible, so please allow them time to respond) and give info, CC and advice.

The topic will officially be "closed" the following Monday, however if the thread continues past that day, that's okay. But please keep in mind that the coaches have only committed to 1 week out of their schedules, so past that one week it might not be possible for them to come back and give a lot of answers etc.

If you post images for the coaches to give CC and advice, PLEASE post the image directly in the thread rather than posting a link. With as many people that I anticipate wanting to participate, and with the time that we are already asking of the coaches, having to click lots of links and being taken out to other sites to see the pictures will be too time consuming. So I am asking that you post your images directly in the thread, and if you don't know how to do this please visit THIS thread started by Julie. It has some great instructions for posting images within the thread.

I think that is everything for now! I'm so excited to get started with this, and I appreciate everyone's interest and involvement!

ETA: I just thought of something else....If you ask a question to one of the coaches regarding workflow or equipment use etc., please include what gear/editing program you are using so that the coach doesn't have to take the time to ask you for that info before answering your question. Thank you!

ETA again: A few more things to keep in mind. When you are posting an image for CC and advice/suggestions, please limit your post to 1 image. Try to choose an image that most represents the questions that you are asking and just post that one image. Also, please remember that the coaches may not have time to give personalized CC to each and every participant, so I encourage everyone that is participating to also give CC when asked for. This way everyone can get some feedback on their work, even if the coach does not have the opportunity to mention each and every image.

Another thing about posting images....when you do so, please include your settings in addition to the equipment you used to take the picture. Also, please make sure your pictures are big enough to be seen well, but not so huge that they take up the entire screen. And when you are asking for help or posting a question to the coaches, it would be helpful if you let them know a little bit about where you are at in your photography journey (ie. just got your first DSLR a few days before, looking to start a business soon, MWAC etc.).

And lastly (until I realize something else I've forgotten and add something else!) if you could post back after your question is answered or your image is given CC, that's always nice and goes a long way towards showing your appreciation of someone's time.

Jami I can't even imagine how much work you've put into this - thank you so much for coordinating it! We already knew how awesome you were, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to say it again, right?

I do have a question pertaining to the classes, and it may be relevant to some of the other teachers so I'll just ask it here. Since I'll be talking about some things involving Elements and workflow, I will want to talk about actions that I use, some of which are available for sale by current peas. I don't want to violate the TOU, but I do think it is important to let people know what I use and where I got it, KWIM? Do you have any thoughts on how I should handle that?

Nikki, I do not see a problem as far as the TOU goes. I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that as long as you are not promoting your OWN things that are for sale, there shouldn't be any worries. There are several times on the board where someone will put a link to another Pea's actions that are for sale etc., and there isn't a problem with that. I think the TOU just state that you can't advertise your own things.

Thanks everyone!

I just thought of something else....If you ask a question to one of the coaches regarding workflow or equipment use etc., please include what gear/editing program you are using so that the coach doesn't have to take the time to ask you for that info before answering your question. Thank you!

Add me to the list of people who are hugely grateful to you for organizing this! You're doing a wonderful job.

THANK YOU for requesting that photos be posted directly in the post, rather than links. I do not like to click on links - too much time, too many clicks.

Can you clarify for everyone about CC? Obviously the coach will be giving CC, but depending on the number of people requesting CC, it might be impossible for the coach to CC every single photo, along with answering the questions that will most likely arise throughout the week. Can you please encourage others to CC (I would welcome other people's CC on whatever lessons I do), as well as reminding those who request it that there's a chance their work might not get CC'd by the coach her/himself?

And perhaps some rules/requests re. photos posted for CC:

-Camera, lens and settings must be listed
-Please only post one photo that best represents what it is you're trying to learn - it's too hard to CC multiple photos
-Make sure it's big enough to be seen (but not too big)

Thank you!

JAMI!!!! You are doing a fantastic job!!!

Anne's suggestions were along the lines of what I was thinking. Yes on settings. And good point to allow one photo. As you pointed out in the name, it is a team effort, so it would stand to reason, for others to help out in areas.

Also, might be helpful, in some subjects, to let the coach know a bit about where you are coming from. There might be a huge difference in answer from someone who has never shot yet, to someone who has been a photographer for some time. To why they shoot, and why they are asking. Does that make sense? Might take some pressure from the coach, if they "know" a bit of their audience.

Nikki, I was thinking the same, we link to others sales and offers all the time, I think that is ok, or I would have been banned a long time ago!

Oh, another thought. Though this might make the thread forever long...it goes along way to come back and reply when your question is answered.

A BIG THANK YOU JAMI AND THE COACHES!!!
May I make a request? When the Coach makes their post--could they start the title the same few letters, maybe like "PPC-" and then the "subject title" or "week 1"? With all the messages 2peas post daily, it's easy for posts to move down the list or back a few pages! Then when you search for messages It would be easy to look for that title, and maybe the search function result would return those that are Photo Peas Classroom posts grouped together in the search results? Something like that?
I'll be away most of the first week , but will visit the thread to catch up!
Again, thanks so much!
~Shelley
