We took our Christmas card photo today. I want to create my own in PSE. Can anyone critique the picture for me and give me some ideas for templates or anything? I appreciate any help at all.

Nice picture!
I found this website via Facebook - I'm checking them out right now for my own Christmas cards. They're having a 40% off sale that ends today.
The Album Cafe - Holiday Cards
I've never used them before, so I can't yet say anything about how they are to buy from.

no critique - Christmas family pictures are a very personal thing. It would appear that you are going with a casual look so I would be inclined to keep a casual template/card. Perhaps where you intend to have it printed will have some templates to select from and you can go from there.

I don't know anything about template usage so no advice to give there.
Your photo is cute. Only critic for it MIGHT be to crop out the extra above the children's heads. You need a small margin up there so you aren't cropping off their heads. But, I'd hold off on doing it until you have picked your template. You might need that portion. |

I have a degree in graphic design and I use Photoshop not PSE. PSE is too basic and i find it frustrating. I would start by browsing online for cards to get inspiration.
I am guessing by the photo, the family dressed in camouflage & the children look to be in a deer stand that you are a hunting family? I think it maybe cute to add a graphic of a deer with lights on the antlers. Use a cute background and add some text in a pretty font. I am currently working on the design on my card and I have been trying to upload it to photobucket but its not wanting to upload to show you what I've been working on. I'm on my third mockup and will probably have 3 more designs before I have a design I am 100% happy with. Design is a process; if you feel you are getting frustrated or have hit a brick wall, walk away for awhile and then come back when you feel fresh. If I can get photobucket to work I will upload my mockups and show them to you. |

Thanks for your advice Sherry! I love your two options. I am going to start working on mine tonight. I decided to make 5x7 ones cause I use our local Walgreen's and they are going to give me a really good deal on those prints because I cannot make my own 4x8 from my own template. I think a 4x6 would be too small.
To the others that posted their advice thanks so much. I am so excited to make my own Christmas card. I have always just gotten prints made and then just put them in my own handmade cards or just used a pre-made template. I have learned so much in PSE in the last 2 years that I want to try my hand at it myself.
