I've had 3 Canon P&S cameras, and I've liked all of them, however, a P&S is never going to do as good of job as a dslr. Even at higher MP's the smaller sensor in a P&S makes a difference. The one thing that always ends up bugging me with the P&S is the slowness, I bought an expensive P&S last year and should have saved the money because I always end up using the big boy.

why not a high end p&s like the Canon G12? You can even rent it rather than purchase it.

I have a canon and I think it is a SX2000. It takes great pictures.
