Hi! I was so excited to have my photo chosen for December! In honor of the New Year and celebrating, I am choosing: Sparkle& Shine for our theme this month-and I can't wait to see all of your sparkly, shimmery, shiny photo contributions!
RULES: Winner of the previous color challenge will state the color for the challenge and then pick the winner. The winner will then be responsible for starting the next color, date to complete, and choose the winner-so on and so forth!
The Previous Color Challenge Winner may participate but is not eligible for winning the challenge.
All pictures must be NEW, and if you can post your settings, that is great, but don't worry about it as a requirement.
Pictures must be posted by Jan 30th.
*You guys made my job picking a winner really tough(which I LOVE!) I have to choose Lori_Z's snowflake shot-it was truly amazing! |

I'm jumping right in here. I was just in the middle of editing some Christmas pictures when I saw your new selection for the January challenge so here is my sparkly Christmas ball. By the end of January it will probably look out of date but here it is for now:

Sparkle and Shine sounds like fun! I'm hoping to be more active on the boards again--its been a long time. I wanted to get a few shots of the beautiful sparkly snow on the cornfields this morning, but it was 3 degrees and with no gloves or boots, I wimped out!! |

Nie shots everyone. Love the champagne, looks so inviting.
I love all things that are 'sparkle and shine" too. Though actually finding something photo-worthy has proven to be a bit of a challenge, since our tree is already down for the season.
I will post my entry as soon as it is processed. |

Great idea for a challenge! Congrats on last month's win.

Not sure if this qualifies. It is not sparkly, but I thought the cutlery looked shiny. This was breakfast, cranberry pancakes with real maple syrup. Panagor 90mm 2.8 macro lens.

I had trouble finding something sparkly so I had to raid the bling !
All taken with 24-105L lens with off-camera flash.
I did have some trouble with the reflections in the ring, and had to tweak my setup and re-shoot several times until I was happy with the results.

I agree, it is really fun to see the different takes. We all have a "style" but it is great to see others' views too.
Love the crop on the clock. And the flames are terrific, I've tried to take pictures of my campfires during the summer and do struggle with that myself. Maybe it was the P&S I was trying to take it with though. LOL
I have an idea for another. I will try to take it tomorrow.

Barb, That shot was taken with a star filter. I tried to do it without, it was beautifully sunny out, and I just couldn't get it to work the way I wanted it to (or at least not the way I had it already pictured in my head, LOL). I bought the star filter forever ago, I'm sure as the result of an "enabling thread" here, and other than one candle shot right after I got it, don't think I have used it. Glad I thought of it, because I really do like this shot!
Thanks so much for the compliment - I appreciate it!! |

Haha! I totally get it! I think I've had this for at least 3 years, took photos with it one night, during Hannukah, the week I got it, and that was it. I am really excited about this photo - it has definitely inspired me to come up with other ways to try and use it. |

I decided yesterday to go and look for some more sparly or shiny stuff and came up with these:
A votive in front of a glossy surface
And a gift bag, with a sparkly mylar design, that gives off holograph like rainbow reflections.

Karen, I am loving that snowflake !!!
I was going to do somethink so similar, but am re-thinking it now. Your shot has certainly set the bar high.
Margie, your christmas tree is so pretty. The lights were captured brilliantly.
Jennifer, the simplicity of your submission is the first quality that I noticed. I am enjoying the setup you used. And the glasses have that perfect amount of twinkle to them. I think I'd straighten the shot just a tad, the bottles seem to be leaning ever so slightly to the left. I can be picky like that though.
That snowman is so darling. Definately lots of sparkle going on there.
What kind of camera was this shot with?
gardencat - I would love to see a super close up shot of that sparkly bag. I think it has a great texture/color for ths challenge. Nice candle too, love the mood of this shot.
barb - you have such a pretty tree too. I love me a full tree. |

Someone asked for a close up of the Mylar bag I posted a couple of days ago, so here are a couple...you can see how the colours reflected change depending on the angle at which you look at it ( or photograph it).
And just for fun a completely out of focus shot. I'm not really a fan of shots that are all bokeh with nothing in focus, but this does have a lot of fun colours. Makes me kind of think about trying to use it as a background for something else.

Love all these, and that they are so different! The trees and snowflakes are great! Also love the votive reflection, very cozy and warm feeling. That gift bag, way cool!
