I'm interested in renting a fisheye lens for my Canon Rebel T3 to play around with on an upcoming vacation. I like the look of the diagonal fisheye lenses, but I'm reading about how you lose a lot of the "fishiness" of the image with the crop sensor cameras. I've read the Tokina 10-17 mm is designed for crop sensors - does this give you a the true effect of a fisheye lens on a crop sensor camera? Or do you still lose so much that it's not worth giving the lens a try? Does anyone have any examples of photos they took with a fisheye lens on crop sensor camera?

Thanks so much for your help!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my fisheye lens. I use it ALL the time, but I'm one of those people who LOVE the look of the distortion it gives. I have the Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens and I LOVE it to death. It's the most-used lens in my bag, lol.

You might be better off just buying a fisheye lens -- the Rokinon lens that I rec'd runs around $300 or so. It does give you the "true" fisheye on a crop sensor camera -- so you won't get that black border around your images, which IMO is a good thing (some ppl like it though).

This is a MANUAL focus lens, but it's super easy to use. You can usually just leave it focus just short of infinity and EVERYTHING is in focus. This actually makes it easier to use than any autofocus lens since you don't have to focus anything (this is because the field of view is so big!)

The Tokina you referenced in your post will give you that fishy-ness on your cropped sensor.
