I HATE Mac with a passion. No mac for me. I'll give up computers before I deal with a mac. Mac lovers will extol the virtue of their beloved macs.

Use which ever system you prefer.

I have always been PC but switched to a Mac at home a couple years ago. I'm fine on either but don't think the Mac is worth the extra money. Now a days both are very stable. I think it comes down to price and personal preference. I think the biggest question on which computer is deciding on lap top verses desk top. I hate working from my laptop to edit.

Mac logic drives me nuts.

The computer lab at school is furnished with Macs. I can touch one and it does [or doesn't do} things it has never done before. It's like I have a mac killing touch or something.

My photography classes are pretty evenly split between mac lovers and mac makes my eyes spin in demonic ways.

Mac w/ retina display. Probably the best option out there for digital photographers.

I have the iMAC but not the retina display. Is that available now? I am not going to upgrade I had heard last year they were not going to go with that technology on the imac.

Volt and I must share the same Mac-threatening trait. I learned PS and InDesign (Quark XPress back in the day, too) on Macs in school. The Apples seemed to crash at the most inopportune times. I'm sure they're fabulous now, but my intro to them was not positive.

I would focus (pun intended) on finding the best display you can afford, regardless of the operating system. I have to be mobile, so I'm limited to laptops. My ThinkPad has an IPS Flexview UXGA 1600x1200 screen, and it's consistency heralded as about the best you can possibly get for photo editing on the move. Sadly, they don't make them anymore. They're becoming harder and harder to source 'gently used' as well. Apparently, AUO FHD is the new lingo for a very decent laptop screen more readily available.

Another consideration would be the programs you absolutely must use and which operating system they require. For example, I use Zoner Photo Studio instead of Lightroom, and it is only available for PC. All of the actions I've collected over the years are formatted for PC, too. Switching to Mac at this point would give me lots of workflow headaches!

I'm a long time Mac user/lover. Most of it comes down to personal preference imo. If you are using image manipulation software like photoshop and a re-processing RAW files, then I would say (regardless of MAC or PC) is to have lots and lots of RAM. Upgrading from the standard 2 to 4 made a big difference in processing time and programs crashing. I personally like MACs because I'm not really a computer person and I find it really user friendly ... but basically you are paying big $$ for their brand .. not so much for PC.

Cheers
Lex
