My camera is fairly new. I got it at Christmas. I have used it a few times. I used it yesterday and it ran out of batteries quite quickly as I had charged it and used it the week before.

When it went dead, I started pushing buttons to try and figure out what went wrong. ( I am not really camera litterate....and got this one to learn) when I got home I put the battery in the charger and the light was red.

So, I go put the battery back into the camera today and I can't get the zoom to focus.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Even a factory reset?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with your camera but your owners manual will tell you how to do a return to factory settings. So I suggest looking there. If you have tossed your owner's manual you can usually find one online by googling the phrase camera model owner's manual.

As for zoom not focusing there are usually a couple of common causes. One is being too close to your subject. Try going outside during the afternoon while it is bright out and see if it will focus on something down the street.

The other reason a lens won't focus is the lack of a strong contrast it can use to determine distance. Lenses can't focus on things that are too close to the same tonal value.

If all else fails, give canon a call today. I've called them many times and they are very helpful. They'll figure it out.
