Hi everybody,

My daughter has her talent show in a black theatre.
What camera settings should I use to get good clear photos?
I have a Nikon d90

What mode do you normally shot in? There is no way to tell someone what manual settings to use because manual settings are absolutely dependent on the amount of light. That is going to vary from scene to scene onstage.

The stage lights normally provide enough light to get good photos. Do set your metering to "partial" and know which of your focusing points is the one your camera meters from. Then make sure that metering point stays on something that is mid toned and not on the black background.

Don't try to use a flash. It is a distraction to those on stage and only illuminates (and annoys) The people around you. A flash's effective range is less than 20 feet.

I have the D 90 and I feel like it is very very noisy when I turn up the ISO so i almost never take it up. I think it is more about the lenses or a good noiseware program Volt, I sent you a message somewhere about getting your opinion on the D 600.

It is my desire to learn more about photography everyday.

I think a photography class should be a requirement in all educational programs because it makes you see the world rather than just look at it.
