For Valentine's Day my sweet husband bought me an Italian leather calf skin purse that could double as a camera bag with the addition of a padded insert.

It is very strong and durable and quite unique looking. It is very roomy and holds my 7D with 24-105mm f/4 attached, as well as an external flash and second lens, along with my wallet, keys, cell phone, etc.

Then I happened to be in a quirkly little convenience store/thrift store in a nearby small town where I spied this pretty silvery blue Kathy Van Zeeland bag. I was happy to pay $7 for it.

It is smaller and holds the camera and lens but not much more on the interior. There are lots of outside pockets though for bank cards/money, cell phone, keys, extra CF card, etc.

It has lots of detailing, and charms, and gives me the look of the Epiphanie bags and others that I really love, without the accompanying price tag. And I can take out the insert and use it solely as a purse if I want to.

So I have two camera bags with very different looks to suit different moods and outfits.

Thank you.

Kim, I agree. I like having a variety of looks and sizes for different needs.

Cute! Can I ask where you bought your camera insert from?

I've tried a lot of inserts, but I like the quality of the Timbuk2 inserts. I have the x-small and the small (which are really pretty big). Here's the link Timbuk2

The x-small fits most purses and bags, the small fits most totes. I ordered the medium and it was super huge, so I had to return it.

...hope this helps

I had looked at various inserts on ebay and Amazon and they had wide selections.

What I am actually using is not even really a camera bag insert, lol. I wanted something that would just fit my 7D with grip and one lens, with the camera facing horizontally rather than vertically.

I came across what is probably a tea cozy, or perhaps a bun warmer, at the thrift store. It is was about an inch on all sides (compresses to about half an inch) with some kind of sponge on the interior. It just happened to be the perfect size to nestle my camera with lens attached.

It was only $2, and gives good protection and makes it easy to reach into my bag(s) and grab my camera.

But that's not going to be much help, I know.
