I am a SAHM and I am looking for a way to use my hobby to help others.

It seems like a while back I saw something about making cards for soldiers to send to their families.

Does anyone know about this or any other volunteer opportunities for scrapbookers or crafters?

Thanks for your help!
Melissa

Cards for Heroes is a fantastic organization with lots of stamping peas supporting it.

I agree that Cards for Heroes is great. I am also doing cards for Relay for Life (international cancer fundraiser). I do them and they sell them at different fundraising activities leading up to the Relay and then at the Relay also.

I agree about CFH--they rock!

Also, in the past I have heard of people making albums for Alzheimer's patients, people with terminal cancer, or make a wish type albums for sick children. I'm not sure of any specific organizations. Also, if you want to make cards, I'm sure lots of convalescent homes like getting that sort of thing for their patients.

I have scrapped for the Ronald McDonald house! They are very nice and very appreciative of what you do for them.

I do kids crafts at church on Wednesday nights. They have an outreach for all kids around here and many don't have the best home life. Anyway, one of the things we do is make cards for soldiers, including Cards for Heroes.

Other things, I cut Shrinky Dink shapes with my dies and we make jewelry and so on.

I also create cards for the Cards for Heroes.
I really enjoy making the cards, they require
less time & less postage when sending.

Your kids' school might have a need for scrapbookiing volunteers as they put together their yearbooks. Ask at the school, or get in touch with your PTA.

I'm living in Canada and we have a program called "Meals on Wheels" which supplies meals to people needing this service. I have just joined a group of ladies who have been making cards to be given out with the meals for holidays, birthdays, etc. People love receiving these cards. We have also done Thank You cards and small gifts (magnets, calendars, photo frames, etc.) for the volunteers, who make such a difference in so many lives. Any holiday cards that are left over have been taken to our local Legion for the war vets.

Elementary school teachers and librarians would love bookmarks to give out to well behaving students - praise the good behavior, get good behavior. Reading program teachers too would love them.

Younger grades have "student of the week" and such and could use cards, awards (to be filled in later) and paperdoll shapes that the kids can color or dress up.

Hospitals and care centers - bookmarks, cards.
