As always, I want to thank Sandy (colourful) for sending me her SOF 2008 word document that showed me how to put together these master threads. I do keep changing the original document so if you see errors here, please let me know. If you want to thank someone for the organization, track down Sandy!
Welcome to Winterfest 2012!
This year, Winterfest will begin Saturday, February 11 and continue through Sunday, February 19. That will give working Peas two full weekends to play. After that, Hangover Week Challenges will begin on Monday, February 20, and continue through Sunday, February 26, for those who just did not get enough during Winterfest (WF)!
If you're new to our board, here are links to our previous events so you can get an idea of what to expect. Unfortunately, the links in the oldest threads are no longer operable, but you can still see the Master Threads and get ideas. They are a part of our history so I'm including them.
For a way to see some of those old threads, check out the third post on the How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread.

DETAILS ABOUT HOW OUR EVENTS WORK
1. Opening Day is Saturday, February 11. On Thursday and Friday, February 9 and 10, hosts and hostesses will post their challenge discussion threads and blog posts giving the details for participating in their challenges. Even if the host has indicated a theme beforehand, be sure to check the challenge thread for complete instructions. Don't start early! Wait for the last-minute directions. This Master Thread will have links to both the discussion threads AND blog posts.
2. Upload your work to the stamping gallery. If you are new to posting, see the How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread for instructions.
3. Be sure to check the correct boxes under Member Challenges when you post. If you do this, your piece is automatically linked to the blog post.
4. Do not link to projects completed previously; we want to see your new creations!
5. A single project may apply to multiple challenges unless the host says otherwise in his/her instructions. Deborah (Gram-pea) is still the champion of combining challenges.
6. Throughout the week, keep an eye on the stamping board for chatty challenges (some with RAK's) that will appear during Winterfest 2012!
7. You can start uploading projects once Two Peas has the check boxes available in the Member Challenges section. Two Peas is located in the CST Time Zone so the check boxes will open and close according to that time zone. (When you post to the gallery, look for that link and see if Winterfest 2012 (WF12) items are listed. If not, you're too early.)
8. Ask questions! If you aren't sure how to do something, check out the How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread for information. That's where we put all the how-to stuff so you would not have to wade through it on your way to the list of challenges!
Click on the magnifying glass below this thread's title to add it to your watch list. Then you'll be able to access it quickly by clicking on My Watch List in the sidebar to the left of your screen.

Hosts and Hostesses: I will post your challenge here as I find out about them. Let me know if I should add or delete your name. If you have a theme in mind or supplies and tools people will need to participate in your challenge, let me know and I'll add them to this list. You can leave a message on this thread. Remember you don't have to offer a RAK in order to host a challenge.
It's never too late to post a challenge. If you decide you'd like to post one for just a day or two or half-way through the week, go ahead and post it. Leave a message on this thread with a link if you can, and I'll add it to the list as soon as I see it.
Please Pea-mail Jamie Sorenson and give her a link to your blog challenge so she can link the WF12 badge to it. If you don't do this, participants in your challenge will not earn a badge.
Participants: Be sure to check the discussion threads and blogs for complete details on each challenge. Also, when you participate in a challenge, leave a message on the Challenge Thread with a link to your gallery post so that the challenge thread goes back to the top of the board. It's good to keep the challenge threads rotating on the board. Let's keep them on page 1!
***I'm putting in the codes for posting the links beforehand. When the link is live, the words Discussion Thread and Blog Post will be in bold print.

Ann, good for you! I still haven't even decided what my challenge will be.
Daniel, I added the title, but I'll wait until the Thursday or Friday before Opening Day to link the blog post.
Everybody else, please wait to write up your challenges until 2/9 and 2/10, the two days before Opening Day. If there are special supplies that people will need to participate in your challenge, we can list those here in the Master Thread.
It looks like we're on our way!

I am looking forward to doing challenges and learning some new tricks and techniques too. Thank you to all who are hosting!! I appreciate your hard work

Kathy, I'm so glad you'll be able to play! As for not being on par with other Peas, forget it! We are always trying out new things, and if you could see some of my past challenges, you'd laugh. I often like to offer a challenge to do somehting I've been meaning to do. That way I have to give it a try. My results are not always great. Here are some examples of my first efforts at learning a technique:
Comedy of Errors
Primitive Polished Stone?
The Blob!
Enjoy!

LOL, KLH! Kathy... It's fine to not host, but ability as a stamper has nothing to do with hosting. As you put it so well in another post, "no need to compare..." Glad you'll be playing during WF12!
Dar. Sorry about the blog thing. I thot if I set my dates the blog wouldn't go live. Silly me! That said? I find if I don't write them well in advance & check to see that links work, I'm apt to forego doing challenge blogs all-together. But that's ok, too. I much prefer doing all my party challenges directly on our forum. Yes. I know that doesn't work for the 'badge' thing, but...
I'll post to the 'trouble shoot' thread & see if I can resolve my issue. You da best, Dar! |

Now to write it up, with enough detail so it is understandable but doesn't turn imto a long winded thing, that puts people to sleep. LOL | |

Well, you guys are way ahead of me!
Daniel, not to worry! I'd rather have you do it now than remind you later so your participants will find the check box to check. Those boxes won't go live until Opening Day. When Stamptoberfest rolls around, you can go ahead and do the same thing--just don't tell anyone! No one is going to check or notice. LOL. BTW, what issue are you trying to resolve?
I'm going to go through some old magazines where I have taped tabs on things I wanted to try out. I'll see if I can't find something for my challenge.
It won't be long now.

Kathy: I have hosted a challenge for most of the stamping fests we have had and it does not need to be complicated. I usually pick a theme versus a technique- for example: create a Halloween card or a Vintage Valentine's card and just require some piece of it have stamping on it like an image or a sentiment. The goal for me is to dust off my extensive collection of stamps and actually use them. I also want to encourage others to use their stamps. Just an idea if you are interested in hosting. Just get your feet wet by making it simple and fun.
Sincerely,
Neysa aka neyw |

So glad you posted, Neysa! I love theme challenges! And it's so great to have some really simple ones. 'Course I think my challenges are 'simple', but I been off my meds for a few decades...
An important thing to remember is that all those who host got their start by just doing it a first time. None of us knew exactly how this sort of party was going to work when we started... |

Thank you, Neysa and Ann. I've added your information. Neysa, I make more birthday cards than anything else so I'm looking forward to your challenge. Ann, I love embossing folders, and I have some I've never used so I'll be looking forward to that one too! I have a love-hate relationship with all punches. Sometimes they just don't work and I mess up something that is all done except that one little extra touch I try to add. KWIM?

LOL, Daria! I definitely 'kwym' about love/hate crafting materials--including punches (& dies). Looks like we'll have a chance to show lots of love to many of our crafting/stamping stuff with the upcoming challenges @ WF12.
Hey, Lickey! Both your challenges sound cool. I have both items & a friend linked me to a spot's pre-order for many new folders & dies being introduced @ CHA's Winter Expo. |

I always try out my punches on scrap paper before I use them, cuz I have had many bad experiences as well - but by using them first on scrap paper that is the same weight as what my origial is going to be I have an opportunity to play or change my mind. |

Ann, that's an excellent idea. However, sometimes it works on one or two corners and messes up the next one. I've tried sharpening them with foil and lubricating them with wax paper. Sometimes that does the trick; sometimes it doesn't. Hence, the love/hate relationship!

'Old Craft Mags', Daria? How old? I have a few from the early '70s. 'course I was a mere child when I bought them along with my comic books...
Actually your craft mag comment has me thinking, Dar. Might me fun if we had a challenge or 3 that's based on a non-stamping/paper/card craft.
For instance... A host might do a quilt-related challenge. How about a floral arrangement challenge done without floral/foliage stamps? Doll-making? Get the idea?
Who knows. Doing a 2D version of some of these crafts with stamping might just lead us to do a 'reverse'--turn stamping & such into other-than-card/page works... |

Michelle, that title doesn't give me any clues, but it makes me remember how much I've been wanting to visit See's Candy. Sigh.
Daniel, I've only been stamping for about eight years so that's how old my magazines are with one exception. I bought some of the earliest Rubber Stamp Madness magazines on eBay--the ones that measure 11" x 14;" the oldest one is from March/April 1995.
Might me fun if we had a challenge or 3 that's based on a non-stamping/paper/card craft. . . . Who knows. Doing a 2D version of some of these crafts with stamping might just lead us to do a 'reverse'--turn stamping & such into other-than-card/page works...
Do you mean a stamping challenge that is based on a non-stamping/paper/card craft?

LOL, Daria. Definitely 'with stamping', but I leave the interpretation up to anyone who feels like giving the idea a go... Might also be fun to take a pic or advert from a noncraft mag & use it (along with stamping) as the inspiration or even part of a project. Food, fashion, gardening & other mags are still on lots of racks...
LOL, Meeschelle! Hoping your 'Treat' has a 'trick' |

Tomorrow (Thursday, 2/9) is the day to begin posting our challenges.
If you have any questions about how things work, check out the WF How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread. A lot of the instructions that use to be on the Master Thread are now there.
Winterfest begins Saturday, 2/11.
I'm picking a friend up from the airport Saturday afternoon so I'll make sure everything is up to date before I leave and again as soon as I return. Don't forget to let Jamie know the link to your challenge blog so she can link the check box with the badges.
People can still play without the challenge being on the Master Thread. Just cruise through the message board to find new challenges.
Oh, my gosh! I have to decide on my challenge!

I have decided to host a second challenge ... called Lonely Hearts Club.
I am also available to help anyone who wants to post a challenge, but hasn't done so before ... who would like a little help. Just PeaMail me!
My usual computer is in the midst of an upgrade ... but I hope it will be done early tomorrow. I won't be able to post my own challenges until then. Meanwhile, I do have access to the internet via another computer (just not my files!) so I can PeaMail and assist others. |

I think I've got everyone who has posted a challenge so far. I'm the only TBA left!
Don't forget anyone can post a challenge. It's easy, and it's fun.
Before Stamptoberfest, people seemed to want me to put the directions in a different post so they could find the challenges without wading through a lot of verbage, but I thought I'd copy some of it here again. Check out #2. Also, is everyone putting the beginning and ending dates of their challenge--See #5.
ABOUT POSTING A CHALLENGE IN YOUR BLOG
Don't let the word blog scare you away. We're not talking about a BLOG with all the bells and whistles. We're talking about a little blog. We all have one here on Two Peas. Posting there is much the same as posting in a thread.
1. At the top of the screen, just above the big title that says Message Board is a row that starts out with the word MY followed by the words Account, Content, Blog, etc.. Click on Blog.
2. Put in the title of your Challenge. Begin with WF12. That way all Winterfest Challenge Boxes will be together, and participants will be able to find them easily.
3. The next line says Post Type. Click on the down arrow, and select Challenge.
4. After selecting Challenge, another line will open up. This is where you put the starting date (02/11/12) and the ending date (02/19/12). Actually, when you go to the blank space to input the date, a calendar will open up and you can just click on the correct date. Note: It's never too late to start a challenge, so if you get an idea for a challenge in the middle of Winterfest, go ahead and post it. You can also post a challenge for just a day or two; just change the dates accordingly.
5. Now, in the box under "Post Content," just write out your challenge. If the board is slow, you might have to wait for the Content Box to open. Start out with the opening and closing dates because the dates you just submitted only tell Two Peas when to open and close your challenge's checkbox. The people reading your challenge won't see those dates.
6. If you posted samples in the gallery, you can link them here. Also it's a good idea to link your challenge thread.
7. When you post your challenge thread on the message board, include a link to your blog. Use the URL for your challenge, not for the opening page of the blog. If you are in the right place, you'll see "You are viewing a single post. Click here to visit ___'s Blog." right above the box with your message. If you don't see that message, then click on the title of your challenge to take you to that page.
ETA: Maria (Furry Pea) has created a format for posting our blog challenges. Basically, she's suggesting we use bold-face type for headings, and we all use the same headings. That way, we could easily find the information we are looking for. Here's a link to her "test format."
Thanks, Everyone, for hosting.

Thanks, Anne. I was just adding the links without reading through the posts. I just added your third one, but I put it with the Extras so it will be noticed since it begins now and ends on Opening Day. I went back and added the dates to Hidden Potential. Now I had better go read everything!
Seeing all of these challenges is making me excited to begin on Saturday!

The fun can begin!!
Daria, I saw that I am not on the challenge list. I will host a challenge and will post it later today (just need to come up with a name and perhaps a sample card). |

I have posted my challenge now, after failing to come up with a funnier name for it. Here's the blog post:
Quilling + Stamping Challenge
And the message board thread:

Thank you for organising everything Daria! |

Huge sigh of relief!
I just posted my Discussion Thread and Blog Post. Yeah!
I've Pea-mailed Jamie with all of the links to all of the blogs just in case anyone forgot. Actually, I mailed all of yours earlier today. I just mailed mine now. I thought it might be too late, but Jamie just Pea-mailed me that she now has all of your links. Yes, there were some hosts/hostesses who forgot. LOL.
I've added all of these into the badge-earning criteria. It will reward a badge to those who leave comments or "praise" on projects submitted to the challenges as well.
Thank you, Jamie! You're the greatest!
