I am trying to get back into stamping and I can't believe the number and types of ink pads out there! I've heard that Memento is the kind to use if you color with Copics and Staz-on is for stamping on glass and acrylic. What about the rest? For general stamping on cards and such, do I want dye ink or chalk ink or something else? I really like the colors on the Hero Arts Shadow Inks. Would I use those? And does the type of pad matter? (Foam or felt.) I'm confused! | |

A good question! Welcome to the stamping forum!
Here is an old thread all about Inks Inks Inks...
You are right about the memento ink for copics or other alcohol markers, stazon is a good ink for slippery surfaces and it is a lot like a sharpie marker (you can remove this ink with alcohol).
I like Versafine Onyx black for when I want something really black, and it works great with sentiments and all types of stamps.
The Hero Arts Shadow inks are kindof designed for the more solid stamps. I only have one of them so far, and it works well for this purpose, but you REALLY have to load the stamp with ink! I love the colors of those too!
Chalk inks I have also found to work well with all types of stamps, but my Colorbox chalk inks (I think) dry out more quickly than I'd like!
Dye inks are good, but they do not work well on the cheaper acrylic (non photopolymer) clear stamps.
I think the answer to your question really depends on what types of stamping and coloring you are doing. If you are like me, you will end up with a lot of stamp pads! |

Thank you so much for the info and the link, Heidi! I'll go check that out. As for the challenges, lately it's a challenge just to get paper out for some reason. My mojo has left the building!
No, those aren't my kitties. I just found the pic and thought it was adorable. Although I think my kitty, Clyde, is pretty awesome too!

Please join us for Winterfest and it will help you get your mojo going. We have so much fun doing challenges and doing games too! I also love my Distress inks by Tim Holtz. There are many out there and it just depends on the look you want.
