Although I don't make many 'fold' cards or other items, I'm finding the idea more interesting these days--'specially since I'm getting back into templates & building projects.

So... Let's talk 'gatefolds'.

While a center 'gate' seems most usual, I'm interested in exploring other looks. I might shift the gate opening so it's not centered--one gate half would be thinner than the other half.

I'm also thinking it would be fun to explore doing gates that are not vertical. I'd like to play with horizontal & diagonal gates.

So... If you have done 'gatefold' projects, I'd love to see them. And if you just want to join this discussion that's fine--join the 'fold'.

I have done a couple gate fold cards with the opening in the center. They were fun! I don't think I photographed them though!

I "closed" mine with a large circular die cut in the center, but it would also be interesting to see what other ways people close them, or don't!

I'm pretty sure I have one in my gallery. I will link it once I get to my computer.

Here's a link to a gatefold card I did for a color challenge that Eagertoretire hosted a while back.

Yellow and Black gatefold card

I've got a few more but that I've done but have never posted them to the gallery since there's very little stamping on them. I used die cuts that I cut with my cricut to decorate the card.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by gatefold...I've made a few cards that have three panels instead of just two and where one tucks into another in order to stay closed. You can see them here:

Christmas folders

fall card

I also made a couple of three panel cards with a centred opening, for Christmas but don't think I put them in the gallery I guess technically these are 5 panel cards because the front pieces fold back on themselves.

ETA: I added those to the gallery so you can now see them here:

Here is a gate fold card with a flap over the top. I made a tutorial for it that you can see here. Please click link below.

WTG, Willy! Excellent 'tute'--very easy to follow step-by-step.

If I wanted to reproduce your look without doing any layering, I might start with an upside down 'T' pattern. I'd score the folds for the gate sides & cover flap.

Love the card you made!

Love your cards,Gardencat!

Stampwilly, excellent tutorial. I'm putting that on my to do list.

Great topic Daniel, is this a challenge idea you've got in mind?

Not at this time, Pug.

I'm just interested in exploring 'folding' at the moment.

I happened to watch a new video from Hero Arts about a gatefold card. I liked in this video how she showed you how to measure where to score, wherever you want the opening. I think it is a helpful visual.
