Thanks for the 'heads up', Ann.

Must admit I'm hoping you will have alternatives for the sprays--adhesive & paint, but looking forward to seeing what you do with your challenge--very intriguing. TFS!

Daniel, I am thinking that you might use glue sticks instead of the spray glue and a small can of cheap black flat paint.

The glue must hold parts of this challenge in place while you do other things. Can't have slipping.

More tomorrow

Sounds like it is going to be a fun challenge!! Like Daniel, I don't have spray paint at home. There might be spray glue somewhere though, just need to find it. Thank you for hosting Ann!

I think I will be offering two alternatives for this challenge. One is with the spray glue and spray paint and the other will be using glue sticks for the adhesive and black shoe polish for the paint.

It will be up to each person to choose which one they want to do - the techniques are a little different but both will work.

Hope to get this posted by tomorrow. A little more work to do.

So under this challenge there will be Option 1, Option 2 or both options. Your name will be submitted twice if you do both options.

Anne-
Your challenge sounds intriging! I can't spray inside or out at our cold temperatures. Do you think black acrylic paint will work?

I only ever used cream shoe polish is that what you are talking about? But Anne don't worry, I have lots of black paints and inks I will experiment to see what works.

I keep checking back on this one.

I agree with Jan. Don't worry too much about the supplies. I'm always amazed at the ingenuity of Stamping Peas that want to participate in a challenge. We'll figure out a way to do it!

Ya done GOOD, Ann! I forgot to leave praise for your pieces , but I LOVE 'em!

I understand all your instructions--not real complicated--& I can see lots of possibilities. Y'all know I'm 'heavy' into metal. LOL!

Suggestion for those who may not have 0000 steel wool. Use a brillo/sos or generic kitchen cleaning pad. They are made from fine guage steel wool.

I have done something like this before- using a texture plate through a CuttleBug on aluminum foil that had been glued to cardboard, then painting with black acrylic paint and gently rubbing off the black paint before it was dry, using a cloth or paper towel. It gave essentially the same effect, but eliminates the need for spray paint.

Phooey!

I love the sample on your blog, but I can't access it or the other samples in the gallery. Links don't work. Clicking on your user name didn't work. Since the ususal banner at the top of the page has been replaced with 502 Bad Gateway, I can't even click on the gallery to go looking. I tried to Google the gallery too. Nada.

Maybe I should just go to the store and look for spray paint, spray glue, and superfine steel wool.

I'll be back when things are working.

Thanks for such a terrific challenge.

I'm still thinking about this one. I'm trying to think of something with texture that I can use. I love your sample cards with the large pieces you used. I think I have some Cuttlebug die cuts that I've never used. I'll check those out.

Unfortunately, the only tree with leaves on it right now is a huge Live Oak, and those leaves are so small. I'll give them another look too. Maybe they'll surprise me.

I have a piece painted and drying. I should be able to put it into a card tomorrow.

I die cut two pieces of thin chipboard and put the pieces together. I'm afraid I may have been a bit rough when I was pressing the Extra Heavy Aluminum Foil around the piece because there were a couple of small tears. I don't think they'll show through the paint. They are not on the surface of the focal piece where I'll be removing the paint. Hopefully, all will be well. It might have been better to have just used one thin piece of chipboard.

To die cut the chipboard in the Cuttlebug, I needed to use the A plate and two B plates. The usual cutting sandwich of A, C, and B plates was way too thick to go through.

Wish me luck!

I am also working on this tonight. I am using some acrylic black paint and hope it works out when I go to rub some off in a little but. I ran my foil backed with a thick coloring book cover through my cuttlebug. That worked fine with my typical sandwich (A+B+ embossing folder + B ).

I was able to upload this morning:

Foil Christmas Card

I was disappointed that I couldn't get more paint off. Also, I used a smaller pattern instead of a big focal image like in your samples. That may have contributed to this.

Thanks for the challenge, it was fun and really not too difficult.

Heidi, I love your card. I don't think it's necessary to get off all the paint. In fact, there have been times when I put some back on!

I was able to post my card so there's hope for us all. It's 8:25am PST.

My Foil Project Card

This looks much better in real life. The scan doesn't show the true colors of the beautiful background (which I didn't make). I figured using a background that was given to me was no worse than using patterned paper, and it made the perfect background for my piece that I had already stamped with the same image that was used on the background.

Ann, thank you for the challenge.

Here is try 2. I added black ink over the foil. I used shoe polish and then used SOS to remove the excess. I then added layer of black ink. Best close ups of ink I can get. Try 2 Foil Card

There is a card that is loaded on to my blog gallery, but the marker of this card's name has been left off. I want to pick a winner randomly, but will have to wait until I know who make it. I didn't see it on the stamping gallery either.

I am shaking my head...I made Ryan's card but didn't know it made it into this challenge's blog!

Of my, I never thought it got posted because I tried to post it early evening and then later yesterday but after completing all the upload information I continued only to receive the 2P system circle icon indicating the system is thinking but my completed upload form would never say the upload was published...nor would it let me move off the page. The icon just goes in circles hour after hour. I had this problem most every night of WF and still have no response to my tickets. I finally shut my system off last night thinking like all others nights it was not published. I didn't think to check otherwise. So sorry I put everyone through all the puzzling thoughts.

Ann please don't worry about including my entry. I had fun and used your technique to make this card for a young man whom I don't know but who has just had a successful lung transplant...Yea! Ann I am sending Ryan some sunny thoughts from both of us! That is the best part of sharing our craft...knowing we can share with it with others when they need it.
Thanks for sharing your inspiration Ann!

Ann. Although I didn't get to make an entry, I really liked your 'technique' challenge. I'm bookmarking this since I can see the technique so working for my upcoming 'Send You' swap/challenge.

Your challenge was definitely unique! Thank you for a real good one!

As I said on the Second Chance Thread:

Here is my card I really wanted to do for the foil challenge. You can read all about my "adventures" with this card in my description.

Foil card

I was going for a metal on wood kind of effect---I guess I should had said that in my description.
------------------------

Thank you Ann for hosting this challenge and even though I ran into some kinks, I really did enjoy doing this challenge! I learned alot from the kinks and that is also why I appreciate this challenge Ann! And you took me out of my comfort zone!

Thanks for the foil challenge and the super instructions!
I was away during much of WF13, but I made this Christmas card during Daria's Second Chance challenge.

I used one stamp, Noel, from Hampton Arts and as I mentioned on the 2nd chance thread, it didn't show up well when I stamped it in red stazon, so I traced over it with a glittery red gelly roll pen. For some reason, I thought the instructions were to put the shiny side of the foil down against the glue ... the technique still worked on the dull side. Hmmm, maybe that's why the paint didn't really wipe off at all? I didn't have steel wool so I used a new, dry SOS pad to remove the paint from the raised areas. I wiped away the soap bits, and that worked pretty well! I painted my raised design with alcohol inks.

Thanks for the challenge Ann!
