Hi,

I love to use stamps. I have trying new techniques ( spectrum noirs, copics and paper piecing)

I would like to try coloring with prisma pencils using the odorless mineral spirits.

My question is where do you get it? Do they sell some specially made for stamping/crafting?
Thanks

Michael's sells it in a fairly small bottle, I think it is Mona Lisa brand sold near the painting stuff.

There is another version sold in nicer bottle, I think under the Gamsol Brand, on other online crafting/stamping stores. 2ps doesn't carry it.

Hi Poohbear!!! When I saw your picture I immediately remember your pom-poms and talking to you about them one time! So good to see you!

SO interesting b/c just a few days ago I ran across this website that I think you'd like to see. This woman does a fantastic job with coloring with Prismacolor pencils and she uses sansador instead of gamsol.

A Scrapjourney

I have not used any OMS nor I have I looked for sansador--but I do see that dickblick has some currently. You may can look around on the internet to find it---and others may have some suggestions to.

HTH!

Isn't Sansador just another brand name for OMS?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Im gonna check out Michaels.I hope they have some. My M's is not very good at keeping their shelves stocked. If they don't have any i found some on ebay and my mom has a M's near her ( she lives an 1 1/2 hours from me and her M's is a lot better than mine).

Check out non-craft stores like paint, hardware & home improvement. Many carry solvents like mineral spirits & turpentine.

FWIW? 'Odorless' is not always true. 'Less odor' is often more accurate. When I taught oil-painting I used 'odorless' spirits & still had students who where sensitive to the product. HTH

Heidi, I'm not familiar with Sansador but I think you are right.

I use oms that is a Mona Lisa brand. As Daniel stated even though it says odorless it does have an odor. I'm a migraine sufferer and I have to be careful when I use it.

Some people use baby oil as an alternative. I tried it but it didn't work very well for me.

I've heard of a product called Zest-it. A lot if stampers rave about it. I believe it's only available in the UK.

I love coloring with colored pencils and the oms blends colors very well. I just wish it didn't have such an odor!

Hi!
All I color with are Prisma Pencil. My blog is manderlylynn@blogspot.com
At the hardware store you can by "low odor" mineral spirits much cheaper than buying a name brand. I also add some baby oil to soften the harshness of the mineral spirits. Probably 1/8 baby oil. You can adjust. You can also just blend with baby oil. You might like that too. Your paper is what is going to be very important with using your pencils and getting a nice blend. I use Strathmore 100% cotton 90 lb...using vellum or bristol is nice but if using printer ink it will smear. That is another reason for the paper. Any old card stock will not give the effect you are trying for. There are other techniques you will learn as you work with pencils. They are so much cheaper than Copics and achieve just as beautiful results. Oh, I order my paper from Dick Blick along with my pencils. They are only a dollar when bought individually. You can also buy a set from Hobby Lobby or Joann's and use the 40% off weekly coupon to get yourself a starter set. Don't forget blending stumps...you will want the ones from Taiwan as the others don't blend well. I get mine from Hobby Lobby. I hope this helps you and I do hope you will try pencils..I love them so much!
