Wanted to start a photo inspiration challenge to start off the Month of March.
Received this photo today from my sister and I thought it would be fun to use it for a challenge.
Stamping is an option. So this is a stamping or just cardmaking challenge.
The reason why I chose this photo is because it is so colorful, she is making some of these bottle carriers for me and it just looked fun. I will also be adding a project of my own later.
I am not making this into a blog - so please be sure to post your entries on this thread and there will be a RAK for this challenge
Dates: March 1st to March 15th, 2013
Your project must be posted on this thread
Inking is required(we are learning so many ways to make background with inks that this will require some type of inking)
Stamping is optional
Fibers might be fun but optional

Question: Can inking by stamping ink be the only inking? Like if I do not make a background?
Also, can this be combined? |

Well I was not expecting to finish this today, but somehow I did!
Here's my card and also some examples I had from experimenting:
photo challenge #3
This was so much fun Ann! Now I do not own any re-inkers, and I know you wanted us to use ink---so I used my tim Holtz distress inks. When I stamp them on my craft mat, they bead up and left lots of ink to play with. I wasn't sure if using re-inkers disqualified me from the challenge, but I went ahead and decided even if it did, I wanted to finish this and show everyone my results!
Every time I put down some ink and dragged the photo paper across the ink, it was a surprise to see the results! and it was fun too b/c it takes (almost) all the control away from you and you have to just wait and see what happens!
The smaller pieces of photo paper are showing what happens if I spritzed the photo paper itself first with water then laid it on the ink. The larger pieces themselves were not spritized first with water.
Thanks Ann for hosting and for a great photo--so much color! and for encouraging us to use ink to create BG! So fun! |

Ann, I'm sorry I just cannot finish this on time. I appreciate your hosting and hope to complete my idea another time. |

Melissa - I love, love your creation. What great inspiration - you definitely quality and using the distress inks and water spray made a fantastic background and I can't wait to try it.
You are the winner.
I will sending out a RAK to you very soon.
Thanks so much for teaching me by example another great background method.
Please p mail me your snail mail address. I am building an address book of 2Peas and I don't have your address on hand. Thanks. |

Yeah I'm glad I qualified!
I really think you (and others, of course) will have lots of fun using the distress pads on the craft mat. I plan on trying some more colors and even heat embossing the photo paper.
I know everyone always warns of heating photos---and I can see why for actual photos, but I heated one of the samples I made with my heat gun to speed the "wet-feeling" it had (the photo paper felt wet despite you couldn't wipe any of the ink off) and when I heated it, it didn't look like it did anything to the paper itself. It did change the colors ~A LITTLE~, not too much though.
I forgot to mention in my description that on some of the samples, I picked up lots of lent on the photo paper (I guess from my last project) and I thought it'd just wipe off after it dried---NOPE! It's still on there...oh well---it kinda adds an effect!
One thing I wanted to say, the sample with the red in it---well I was not wanted THAT much red in the sample and I tried wiping it away---which did nothing but scuff up the glossy finish of the photo paper. When I heated that sample, the front went from scratched up to gloss again! I have to experiment some more to see how to get the glossiness of the photo paper to come back if you wipe it away, since I am not sure exactly how I did that!
Oh and I used GLOSSY photo paper on all these samples---I need to go edit that in my description....
Thank you again Ann for a fun challenge! |
