The other day when I was heat embossing I wondered:
Do crafters heat the embossing powder from ABOVE or BELOW the paper or BOTH?
I heat below the paper for most of the melting; then I heat from above for a few seconds to "double check"!
I thought I'd try and use the "Create a Poll" option---this is my first time to use it so hopefully it works!

I always heat from below cause I'm still using my toaster (but I might be getting a heat tool very soon - I found a bit of a cheaper one - previously I'd only seen them for $50).
Just curious, though - how do you use a heat tool from below?? I just always assumed it was on top. |

I typically only heat under if my paper curled and I need to uncurl it... |

Christin, I just hold/move the heat gun around under the paper and have the heated air just blow on the underside of the CS---I guess it'd be much like how you use the toaster to heat the under side of the CS.
When I use it above, sometimes it blows some of the EP away---even after I have tapped it well!
If I ~know~ the EP could be blown away b/c I didn't tap it off (only dumped it off), then I heat from below so the EP will stay put. |

I voted both, but I start out on the top so I can watch it change. Then I will do some on the bottom just for good measure |

I usually heat above, but below if I have a lot of powder and glitter, etc. on top.

I heat emboss from the top. One's heat gun definately makes the difference some have a greater blowing feature than others. |

I mostly heat from above because it seems easier but, if I am using dark EP on a light project (and I remember to) I'll sometimes heat from the bottom, at the start, as it seems to be less likely to blow small particles of EP off, and leave little dark specs where I don't want them on my project.
Then, like Heidi, sometimes I also heat from below, at the end, if my paper has curled up.

I voted above. It's easier for me to see that way. If its a smaller image occasionally I will emboss below. Fun poll |

I like my heat from 'above'. I'll be feeling heat from 'below' soon enough. |

I checked "below". I am probably a 90% from above heater, but if I don't feel it's melting enough I might heat from below as well. When I used the electric burners on my stove to emboss, it worked from below. That was before my handy dandy heat gun.
Note: Polls used to work, but I don't think they have been working for awhile. I'm surprised any votes show up at all. |

I find myself sometimes doing both. It depends on how large the image is too.
