oh fun! I'm always threatening to get into speciality fold cards and just haven't gone there much. Have I mentioned lately I'm basically lazy?

So now, I'm anxious to give it a try. Thanks Heidi! Love your examples too BTW.

Fantastic, Heidi! I'm so happy you jumped in with this.

I love your example cards, and can't wait to give a gate-fold card a try. I've been thinking of trying one lately, so this is just the push I need.

Does it have to be a Christmas card?

Thanks for the quick answer Heidi! I have been out in the garden and need to go back out tonight to work some more...working out there after supper helps beat the heat!

Soon as I get a chance I will try to make something...I love this fold and will give it a try.
I have been making a lot of Christmas cards as I belong to Christmas card clubs and challenges so just wanted to make sure that another theme was OK!

WTG, Heidi! Haven't done a fold card in a while--let alone a gatefold. Hope to try to playing with your sketch. TFS!

WTG, Eager!

My entry is coming along. Heidi agreed to let me send it to her--hopefully in the mail by friday. My base fold went well & now I'm working on incorporating the 'sketch'. So far; so good.

Marshia, each panel on your gate folded card looks like it had it's edges masked before you distressed with Broken China. How did you do that? The edges look so perfect!!

Melissa asked,

Marshia, each panel on your gate folded card looks like it had it's edges masked before you distressed with Broken China. How did you do that?

The answer is I cheated. lol. I started with white cs for the card base then added two panels which are very close in color to Broken China and did my stamping on those. Sneeky huh? Thanks for asking and for the your generous comments.

I was certain you taped off the edges with painter's tape or something similar and then distressed! Or I thought maybe you used a Spellbinder as a stencil and distressed inside it!

I cannot tell on the computer that the card base is the panels' "matte"!

Thank you for sharing your secret!

I'm flabbergasted! Mailed my entry to Heidi yesterday & she got it photo'd for me so I could do an upload. WTG USPS & BTY Heidi!

Here's my gatefold

I won't pretend it didn't involve lots of work, but keeping track of the 'hows' & 'whats' was tuff when doing my project comments.

ETA: See the little piece of masking tape on the 'open' pic? The doggone circle broke & did what what was needed! Hope others who enter Heidi's challenge will do the same--i.e. "don't sweat the small stuff!"

Fantastic card, Daniel! I'm glad that you showed an alternate gatefold. Good advice about not sweating the small stuff.

Thanks so much for participating!

Still have better than a week to go. Hoping to see some more gates. It's a fun fold & Heidi's sketch is both simple & she's not asking for your entries to follow it to the letter far as elements go.

Thanks for mentioning it Daniel. I made the sketch simple on purpose since the gate fold might be new for some folks. Always think of a sketch as a starting point. You can add or take away an element, and it still resembles the sketch.

I started working on mine yesterday .... WHILE my kids were awake and running around! That's a first! We recently moved our desk into a "nook" in our main living area, so I can use it for craft and work. It used to be wedged into my dd's room where it was completely unusable, so it's been good!

Anyway, I've almost finished the basic elements and just need to embellish it now. I'm making a birthday card for my dd.

I got a request for a wedding card, the brides color choice for the wedding is yellow and white. I do realize that it's a departure from the sketch but I saw it as an opportunity to work with the fold. I hope that's okay. Thanks!

Eager, I think you forgot to link your card.

Here it is. It is lovely!!! Great job and thanks for participating!

Christin, I'm glad you got a good start. I'm glad you can sometimes work during the day time hours. As the kids grow up, you should be getting a little more time for yourself.

Oooh! I really like Eager's 'wedding gate'! And it gave me an idea. I shared it in my praise/comments, but I'll mention it here, too.

Using Heidi's sketch & Marshia's card as examples, if the image used on the gate's opening were a folded piece, it would become a mini card on the large card. In the case of Marshia's cake, the fold would (probably) be on the bottom left layer of the cake.

The inside of the mini card could hold a special photo, verse, etc.

Hope that makes sense.

Gate folds are lots of fun! Thanks Heidi for coordinating this fun challenge I really enjoy water coloring the flower with the emboss resist technique that I used on my card.

For those who have a score-pal there is an added score line at 2 1/8 to make scoring easy. Tip-It has a asterisk above this score line and the center fold. I have highlighted mine with a dot of color with a sharpie maker so I can spot it immediately.

Here is the link to my card.

I have a card finished but my pic file size is huge and I can't get it to go smaller. I may try and scan it tomorrow and see how that works.

WTG, Christin & Pug! Looking forward to seeing what you've done!

Have to laugh... Heidi's gatefold has rather 'infected' me. in a good way. One of my other groups is doing another 'group submission' for a mag. I'm thinking gatefold for it--assuming I join in.

And I can see using the gatefold for my 'MG' entry. Not sure, yet.

This has been a fun challenge, Heidi!

I'm so glad so many people are trying this. That is fun that you are considering a gatefold for another challenge Daniel. I honestly have had similar ideas myself, when looking at cards in the gallery, I have been thinking of transforming them into a gatefold. lol

A few more days for this challenge! I hope those of you with details to iron out will be able to do so
