I hope you will consider signing up for Medal Swap #3!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a fun swap to use your imagination and stamping to create a fun project! Please give it a try! Stampers of any level are welcome for this swap.

Blog

The challenge is to create a "medal" project that is wearable and fits the theme, "AIR FORCE."

Deadline to sign up: June 17th
I will post swapmates on June 18th.
Your medal should be completed and in the mail by July 16th

Requirements:
1) Use some image stamping on your completed medal.

2) Interpret "Air Force" theme.
AKA: anything that flies. I.e. Birds, planes, superman, spitballs....

3) Medal should be wearable. Many have used jewelry pins, safety pins, and ribbons for this, but any way you can think of is fine.

4) After your swapmate has received their medal, post in the TwoPeas gallery and link to Challenge Blog post. Link in the Stamping Forum thread.

Here are the links to the past two swaps where you can see what folks have already made. You will notice they can be in any medium: metal, clay, paper, etc. It's up to you how simple or fancy your medal can be.

Send You #3 AKA Medal Swap
Medal Swap II

Please feel free to ask any questions here.

I'll 'wing' it, too, Heidi.

Great thing about this medal round? All the great WSW challenges are bound to give us ideas for use in our medals.

I'm in. I meant to sign up when you first posted but I didn't have time and then I totally forgot about it. Good thing Daniel's medal from the last swap was on my kitchen table when I cleaned it off or else I probably would have missed the deadline.

Well! The 'Fearless Four' are swapping medals!

Anyone gonna make it the 'Super Six (or Seven)'?

C'mon, folks! We won't ask you to wear a super hero costume--I promise.

Time to remind StamPeas that there's still time to join this swap.

Boy Howdy, Heidi! Your theme is timely! I'm seeing lots of inspiration for 'flying stuff'--especially in the watercolor challenge (birds, butterflies, etc..

And Pug's twinchie one is a great size & shape for a medal.

Thot you'd like my 'comment', Angela.

I'm musing about my medal & think it might be 'fun' if we share comments, ideas, questions like we do on the tag swap thread.

Not only is that a good way to stay connected, but it might attract some future 'medal swappers'.

I was pretty sure I had my medal idea 'down' for this one. Upon reflection, however, I think I want to try a different configuration for this one. All my previous medals have been the same form--top 'bar', ribbon & hanging piece. Time for a change...

Good idea, Daniel!

I've gathered some stamps but that's about it! I really want to try and incorporate some metal into my medal. Say that three times fast ! I've been wanting to play around with some metal since Daniel's medal he did on our round 2 swap. I also may use some polymer clay in my medal. Not sure yet. I've had 2 failed attempts at it with previous medals. One thing I do know- these medals are really fun to make.

I actually had time to start up my medal today. I'm going back to my beloved craftfoam, but might add some metal, too, Pug. Depends on where the piece leads me & the force of the air from the 'butterfly in the Amazon'.

I have lots of 'winged things', too, Beady. Around here they're called mosquitos...

I have my 'pendant' made & added wings to something that doesn't ordinarily fly. One of these days I have to buy a pig stamp.

I have a few tryout elements started, but not sure how I want to proceed. Glad I have time to work on this before it has to ship.

Sounds like you are making progress, Daniel. I am with Kathy, I haven't even picked which winged thing to use...

LeighAnn, do you find your polymer clay to be a bit brittle (read: scary to mail). I have only worked with it a few times and am not 100% confident I prepare and bake it correctly. I have been considering it for a material too.

Heidi. Polymer clay shouldn't be overly brittle when cured (baked), but may require a bit of protecting when mailing.

Couple of tips... Make sure you prep your clay by kneading so the plasticizer is well-incorporated. Conditioning poly clay is key to good results & takes time & effort. My pasta maker really helps.

Don't go too thin when making pieces you want to send in a regular envelope.

Don't overbake the clay. A bit of 'flexibility' is good. Slightly under-cooked is better than overcooked with poly clays. HTH

Heidi, yes with the past 2 medal swaps we've done I tried using some polymer clay and had failed attempts with it. I did feel as if it was too brittle to mail.

Daniel, thanks for those tips! I just assumed my clay was old. I had used it a few years back for a mosaic piece. I don't have much left of it so I may buy a block and play around again. I know they sell a clay softener, I wonder if that helps it at all?

Also my oven tends to over cook things so I should probably adjust either the bake time or temp too to see if it helps.

Pug. The clay softener is useful, but couple of tips. It won't help if the clay is too old. And it's best not to add too much softener--can make the clay difficult to work with.

How to tell if your clay is 'past its prime'. If it crumbles when conditioning & refuses to come together, it's time to toss it.

I made a bit more progress with one of my medal elements--a metal piece. I used various paints & even a perfect pearls mist I'd never tried/opened. I like the results.

Got to make jump rings. I'm sure I have some somewhere, but would take forever to find them. 'Sok. I have some (fairly) easy ways to make them.

Here is my update. I open up my boxes of stamps and look at them. I open up my craft cabinet and look at stuff. I stack my bricks of polymer clay over and over in different towers.

Still no progress. I think I am going to give myself a week's break from trying to think of an idea and wait for one to come to me... There is still lots of time.

LOL, Angie (May I call you 'Angie'?)! No need to apologize.

For this medal (pin), Heidi wants us to use images that fly--real or imagined.

My image definitely falls in the 'imagined' category.

Birds would be fine. 'Course if you go with a penguin or ostrich you might have them holding a helium-filled balloon to get aloft.

Have FUN!

Thanx, Angie! It's gonna be fun to see what each of us has come up with for this medal round. I've got my medal out for pick-up--hoping the carrier takes it today.

I used a different 'style' of medal for this one & I rather like it. I didn't 'fuss' with it a whole lot, but I think it works.

Daniel, I just received your medal. I really like your design! It may be a tiny bit tricky to photograph, but I will take a couple shots in a while and email them. I can't wait for you to upload it so we can all comment on it.

I am working on my medal today. I would be lying if I said that Daniel's medal didn't influence the design of mine. I'm not copying at all, just got a better idea for my design.

LOL, Heidi! I'm hoping you liked it. I must apologize for lack of a pinback. I couldn't even find a safety pin around. Figure you might have a pin handy

Far as being influenced by my medal? That's terrific! Gonna be fun to see what influenced you.

As we continue to do the medal swaps (with stamping), I'm so glad we have the link to the 'medal site'. My first 2 medals were very similar in style. This time I went for a different look. And I know I'm not the only one who did that this time.

I am so pleased that our pal 'Pug' is planning to host the next medal round. I already have ideas for that one!

Fair warning, Angie. We may be calling on you to do a stint as a medal-swap host one of these days. Don't worry. We won't throw you out of the group if you are unable to take on the burden. but I will nag you--& I'm good at nagging. Just ask Beady!

I *do* like it!

My medal is now complete (AND BOY, DO I HAVE A MESS TO CLEAN UP!!!) and should be out in the mail tomorrow. When LeighAnn receives it, I will let you know what my original idea was and what I changed. In the end I did add something a bit odd, but I like it.

I have to say that when I make medals, I often really really wish I had more embellishments around. I think it would be fun to add trinkets and silk flowers, etc to these. Maybe I will look around before the Late Summer/Fall medal swap and pick up things *I just like* to add to my stash of items that would work well for this.

Also, I think that the hardest part of doing medals is just adhering everything together.

LOL on the mess, Heidi! When the 'fit' hits it's hard not to get messy.

Looking forward to seeing what you ended up doing. But also very interested in hearing about what your original idea was & why you abandoned it.

Whether it be a swap or challenge, many of us have done starts & retarts for our projects.

Apart from the medals, that might make an interesting discussion sometime.

I do agree that the 'put-together' of our medals can be a real challenge.

I also find that with the medal swap, I want to explore more than one form/style as we go along.

Can't wait to see what Pug's swap will be, but I want to go back to the 'medal site link' & review possible forms I can use.

Heidi, I can't wait to get it!!
I seem to make a big mess too when I do these, but I always make big messes when just making cards too. A craft room is on wish list for the next house!
I too wish I had more embellishment type trinkets to add to mine. I always check them out at the craft stores but just never know what to buy. I've had my eye on the Martha Stewart clay molds, those could be useful!

Beady, I forgot to mention I didn't get yours out on Monday like I'd planned too. I finally got to the post office today so it's on it's way!
