On various recent threads we've mentioned/discussed doing 'fold' cards--even had a challenge for the gatefold type.

In the course of discussing 'upload comments', I had occasion to link a previous tag project.

Along with her compliments, Jan (Far North) included an interesting idea--turning the heart into a gatefold.

As some of you know, most of my projects are not traditional folded cards. That said, however, I have sometimes considered adding a mini-card (folded) to otherwise flat panels or even regular fold cards.

So... Ever done this? Have a card you can share with us? Have ideas about how you might do this? & yadda, yadda.

Down the line this might make a fun challenge/swap. No plans on my part to offer one until we're past HOW, but I like how often our discussions turn into challenges & swaps. KWIM?

I found a recent project that kind of illustrates what I'm talking about.

Although I didn't do a separate fold card to add to crackerbox, it could have been an added 'fold card'.

At this point, my thinking is that I would tend to go 'mini' when adding a card to another card. But I can see other possiblities...

I don't know if I "get" what you are saying but I do know that I rarely do any kind of folds in my cards. I just fold the card in half and make a card. The only time I've ever done any fun folds they were a part of challenges I was a part of.

Thanx, Angela. If you view my gallery you'll see very few fold cards--even the simple 'folded-in-half' ones.

What I'm asking is whether anyone has added any sort of a fold card--simple to 'fancy' to their pieces. HTH

I had some time to try the idea of adding a mini foldcard to a larger one.

Just to complicate it for myself , I decided to do a gatefold shaped-card with 'angled' side folds. It turned out pretty good, but now I want to figure out how to do it in an easier way so I can share its construction.

This method of 'do it the hard way' & then figure out an easier way is my modus operandi. Works for me since it helped get me pub'd lots of times in the past. Not bragging; just sharing how I work. And...I avoid doing online searches for similar techniques. I prefer to 're-invent the wheel' without being affected (infected?) by what others may have done.

I think it would be a cute addition to a card (which I usually mean to be a simple folded card) to add a little window, or another tiny card to the front of it. It could have a special message or image behind it.

that being said, I certainly haven't done anything like that before.

edited for spelling: cut was meant to be CUTE

People often find extra elements on a card that appear "hidden" from the view of other very intriguing. This doesn't have to be very complex... like the flower with the center cutout and re-attached in the same place with a washi tape hinge on the inside and a stamped image or note underneath the flap. Or a tad more complex-the hidden feature can be a mini pop-up.

Sorry I don't have photos, I made most of these prior to 2Peas having the gallery ability to show more than one picture.

Daniel, can't wait to see your project!

Oh Yeah! Hidden 'adds' are such fun! I still laugh about my 'crackerbox' card. Even when Kathy (Beady) had it in her hands she didn't realize that the 'cracker' opened.

It's no secret that I love Halloween. Jan's post has me thinking about doing a piece with 'hiddens' that could be lots of fun to make. And I could do both 'added minis',as well as other versions.

And I'm making progress with my desire to offer a simpler way to do an 'angled' gatefold.

Nice thing about our forum? We party all the time--not just a week or two here & there!

I do not do this often enough, but I sure do like added folds and such to cards. They make the card more interesting. Here is one I made just recently at my local stamp club. A lot of folds was added to this one LOL!

Great example of an 'add', Willy!

I'm making progress on coming up with a simple(r) way to make an image-specific template for shaped fold-cards. Still needs a bit of refining.

I haven't done this before, but everyone's ideas/examples makes it sound like it'd be neat to do!

I also think it could help ("help" is not the right word exactly) with cards that I give that do not have folds, thus they are more like postcards. Most expect a card to open up and if I give a card that doesn't open, there are some who really do try to "open" the CS!! Most of the time I am there and are able to tell them "it doesn't open", before they make the card open.

I can see how having this "opening" expectation fulfilled with a mini fold somewhere on the front of the card, could allow me to give a flat, "postcard" type of a card.
