I am ready to swap! I have posted the ATC I will be swapping in the gallery.

As you can see by my postings on the blog I really had fun with this process. For me it was like coloring Easter eggs that each one was a new surprise and I kept wanting to try "just one more" LOL! I did get into a little rut with stamp similiar stamp in the same manner but I was experimenting more with small changes in the water technique.

I am really thinking this may be a great way to use some intricate stamps that I find tedious to color. Off to check out some stamps!

Great SND, Jan! Your examples & info are great, too! Wish I could tackle this by the deadline, but I'll definitely keep the challenge in mind as I work on my April tag.

Good tips on how to deal with 'watered' paper. I like to 'couch' (coosh). It's a papermaking term. It refers to to placing water-saturated paper between absorbent material & weighting it. This allows the paper/cs to no only dry, but also end up flat.

I've used different materials to couch--paper/cloth towels, felt, newspaper/magazines. Heavy books make great weights.

April your water stamping came out terrifically! Glad to see you tried using Dylusions...I had not experimented with that one yet. Your additional stamping on top is also great! I really like the kinda similiar technique that you used with a stencil for your tag challenge. I will be sending my address to you when I am finished here.

Daniel know you always have an open pass to allow for photos if you want to be included in the SND swaps.

Ann, I am glad you mentioned you are going to do some more research. It reminded me that I wanted to provide this link to Jennifer McGuire's original 2 Peas Thinking Inking video where she shares a 15 second presentation on this Water Stamping technique (it begins at 3:35).

After watching and trying her process I encourage you to add more water on the stamp than she does and then immediately after stamping lift off any excess surface water with a tissue before drying with a heat gun. If you too decide to experiment with both ways please share what you discover.

New option-More recently Jennifer has changed this technique from misting with plain water to misting with Perfect Pearls in the perfect pearls color.

Are you guys leaving your watercolor paper plain without backing or did you add a piece of patterned paper or something to the back. Water techniques always cause the back to look a bit messy.

I have often seen ATC fronts cut a tiny bit smaller and framed. I guess I am just wondering what my options are...

Watercolor paper is so heavy that sometimes I just leave it as it is with ink splotches and all. Yes, I often cut a little of the ATC to add a mat edging when the paper is not as substantial as I like.

Other times I run some ink around the edge and not mat. Sometimes I see some punching included as 1 edge or a peek through to the mat below-of course some watercolor paper is too think for punches. Rounded corner are sometimes another nice finishing touch (again it depends on your punches-thickness of paper.

Whatever your pleasure...just remember to sign it.

I am ready to swap.

I made two pretty different looking ATC's. My results overall don't look quite as dramatic as Jan and Aprils, but I like them just the same. I sponged distress inks on my watercolor paper before completing the technique.

I checked with Jan and made sure it was okay to ask the person before me which ATC they would prefer. But after checking the swap rules and thread, I feel like I should be asking Jan, but am confused because of the list of swappers in the OP. So I need a little help there. Thanks in advance!

Thank you ladies. I sent April a peamail for her address. This is a really fun technique and it definitely doesn't take too long. It is a good stamp n dash.

And I forgot to mention, Jan is right, especially the blue ATC didn't look that great until I stamped over it.

I played around with this tonight and made 2 ATCs. My results weren't so good.

One, I made by creating a background with gelatos. The other was with distress stains.
Last time I used my versamark, I accidently spilled embossing powder on my pad. .
So I tried my tinted inkessentials embossing pad.
My water stamped image has a blue/whitish tint. I'm thinking it's from the tinted embossing pad?

I'm going to try this again tomorrow. I will post all of my results. The ones I did today don't look too bad but I want to try it again before swapping to see if I get better results. I just noticed the video link, I will watch that too to see if I did something wrong.

Oh LeighAnn sorry you hit some orange construction cones tonight! That is so frustrating when you are limited on time stamping time. Yup, the tinted Inkessential pad is blue...but perhaps it will evaporate overnight. Nonetheless, I bet it looks great...just different than the others. That's no problem.

I have my ATC cards cut, now to apply the ink. Going with Ranger Distress ink. Then will see what I can do next. Think I will cut some extra cards. The small canvas is giving me some trouble in thinking this thru.

Ann please know my instructions call for embossing ink-that is the generic name for the ink you use for heat embossing. Many companies make embossing ink-choose a clear one if possible.

Your alternative instructions call for using dye ink. Note not all dye inks are water friendly as this technique needs. If you reads the labels and it says that it waterproof or resists water you will need another type of dye ink.

Please post if you have more questions.

LOL, Jan! I'm determined to figure this out & love all your samples & the current submissions--beautiful!

I went back & read your instructions. DOH! I finally got my lightbulb to light up! Now I get it! Although I don't have a clear embossing ink, I do have a watermark one & used that as my 'buffer'. I watered my stamp & plopped it onto the BG I'd made with DI. It worked! Only thing I have to remember is to start with a clean stamp.

Am I correct in thinking this technique has relations with 'kissing' & 'bleaching'?

Thanks for providing me with a 'pass' for the 'dash', ma'am! I hope to be able to post "ready to swap" by the deadline (just sans photos'

Just a quick 'btw'. When I did my fast 'test', I layered 2 index cards. The top one had been inked with DI & the one under was blank. When I did the water stamping & separated the cards the watered stamp had pushed the top ink onto the blank card. Cool!

Thanks for a fun challenge!

Thanks Heidi for letting us know your ATC is on it's way!

ME too, me too I too used a dirty stamp LOL!

Cool Daniel, glad all is clickin together for you this morning!
Yes, this technique has some close similarities to the bleaching technique and perhaps to kissing if you overlap the images as I did for the ATCs but if used in a larger space such as a background one might not overlap the images at all.

So glad you learned with the double index cards, water can act as a resist moving the ink to dryer areas. Watercolor artists erase "mistakes" with water. Adding clean water to the area to be changed then gently lifting it off with the tip of the tissue and gentle blotting. This removes most unwanted color although repeating the process several times may be needed.

OH, I am glad our learning never ends! That's why I love to play with techniques.

READY TO SWAP!

Amen on the "always learning" comment, Jan. And LOL on the dirty stamp posts!

Although the watermark ink kind of worked in this technique, Jan, I do see where having a clear embossing ink has greater advantages. And I also want to find a better 'mister'. Mine worked, but sprays a bit sloppy.

What I'm finding with this is that this technique is more about 'moving' the base ink than 'lifting' it. Am I on the 'right' track about that fellow water-stampers?

Have to bookmark this SND!

I am ready to swap and here is my card....

This was a very thoughtful provoking challenge for me. First I did not read instructions clearly and got confused. Brain was in a fog. Finally I got it.

As I set up to do the base of the card, I wanted more than one color and so used 3 different Distress inks and brushed on a green, lavender and orange.

Then I set up to do the water stamping. Very fearfully I set up an area in the bathroom, with my embossing ink, a spray bottle of water, paper towels, Kleenex. Stamped my background stamp with the embossing ink and sprayed with water and held my breathe and stamped. Got a good impression and started breathing again.

Took the dried (heat gun) card back to craft room and looked for image to stamp on top. That was hard. These cards are called Artist Trading Card, so I wanted something artistic, finally stumbled over a set of stamps on the floor, that I hadn't used before and found the angel/fairy stamp and decided to go with it. After I stamped it, it needed more (I thought) so I colored her with many different kinds of ink. However I do not like her face, her expression is just not happy. To finish it off and to possibly add more art, I added Stickles.

This ATC is either over the top, not worthy of uploading or somewhere in between. I would have been happier using a frog stamp, but somehow that didn't seem to fit artist. So here she is:

I am ready to swap, here are the cards I made:

Butterfly ATC's

This was fun, and the tips to blot with paper towel and use a heat tool to dry were perfect. I first tried a card and didn't get a good impression because I probably didn't put enough ink on to start, and then I only let it air dry. I was much happier with the results after following the blog instructions closely.

I just checked out the latest ATCs, great work ladies! And I can't wait to see yours too Daniel!

Thanks for all the info from everyone. This is definitely a technique where you really need to pay close attention to the directions. I love all of the learning/sharing that has came from this Stamp n Dash! I've bookmarked this thread for good reference.

I was just thinking about how great distress inks are. So many ways to use them, we could probably base a stamp fest around them!

Ive got this on my to do list tonight. I think my problem was not using enough water. I'm still going to post the ones that I did first too since they're not horrible .

And yep, a dirty stamp ruined one of mine too. It did give it a nice aged background I guess!

Waaaa! I didn't realize that you were doing another ATC Swap. That will teach me to click on more threads. I found this yesterday, and as I saw more and more of your gallery posts, I decided that I'd get up this morning and join in (last day of the month). Then this morning I realized that the last day was the 30th, not the 31st. Bummer.

I love, love, love all the wonderful ATCs you guys have made--beautiful colors, and the water-stamping adds so much texture and dimension to the backgrounds. I always love the silhouette stamping so these are simply fabulous ATCs.

April-my ATC arrived yesterday. I love seeing these in person...it is so fun to see the details of your water stamping! What a beautiful ATC!
Thanks again for playing...and let's do it again soon!

My pal April got & photo'd my ATCs. Are they the best thing I've ever done? Nope. But I'm pleased with them because I got the chance to try something unfamiliar--even without having the embossing ink (definitely on my list of a 'need that')

Thanks for helping me 'stretch', Jan! Don't even have to use Ben Gay to soothe my creative muscles.

I just posted the ATCs I made because of this challenge.

I'm very happy with the way they turned out. I did ruin my favorite one, and I kept trying to duplicate it so I ended up with five ATCs and still couldn't get a duplicate of the one I liked so much! Water has no master.

Jan, thanks for the challenge. LeighAnn, thanks for trading with me. Your ATC is in the mailbox.

Thanks, everyone, for the inspiration that your ATCs gave me. When I saw them in the gallery, I knew I wanted to do this too.
