I have been reorganizing my scrap stuff and have put myself on
a Pea Freeze.
1 I can use what I have
2 Since retiring I have been shopping like I was still
working, silly me, I CAN'T do that.
We get so used to just buying on a whim and in reality
Do we need it / or just want it cause its on sale/clearance, etc.
I have to retrain my Brain
Anybody else in this boat.
I think not having to work is a huge trade off for not
spending like I used to.
Now I have the time to craft!!!!!!!!!!

Well not really on a freeze but since we got stationed in Germany and there don't seem to be a lot of craft stores here the freeze kind of happened - I do order online every now and then but orders from lets say Joann's take 6-8 weeks to get here so I don't order a lot. A very sweet pea just sent me a bunch of stamps It was a complete surprise I was / am soooo excited they will keep me busy till we go home for our family reunion in July - first stop on the way home from the airport is always a craft store it is a tradition by now.

I've done a major freeze. I realize I have so many unused stamps that I really love, so I'm revisiting those sets.

I have loads of DP so I won't even go down the paper isle because it's my weakness.

Since I've been on a freeze for so long, I don't feel the need to spend the way I used to.

I must admit though, I am buying stencils.

I have been pondering going on a "consumables" freeze. I am also retired and know what you mean about having all the time in the world to craft...but not the same buying power. I have a 10 x 12 foot room stuffed to the rafters with paper products!

I have been thinking of a consumables freeze until I make 50 cards...finished inside and out.

I am a bit addicted to dies though...so that is why I say consumables only!

Maureen, I think I really like the way you have set up a buying freeze as a challenge to make 50 cards. I think that could really work for many people since the reason cited by most people is that they already have so much stuff they should be using.

Then, buy something within your budget.

I don't know if anyone could go on a buying freeze for adhesive though. lol

I really need to go on a freeze. I'm with Beth and Maureen, I've got way too much paper and I keep buying more.

I like Maureen's idea of setting a goal that has to be reached before you can buy anything else. It not only helps curb your spending, but it also gets you to use what you have.

I too love pretty handmade papers that are handmade and come in 36" large sheets. Since retirement (1 1/2years) I have been working on using them as opposed to collecting But for me that is still a conscious effort.

I still haven't gotten a grip on how many embossing folders, dies and stencils I effectively use in 6 months or a year....but I do know I really get a strong pause when I am about to spend $$$ when I have several that have only been used once.

Enjoying what I have

OK...I'm in for sure. I pledge to not buy any CONSUMABLES (other than Sook Wang tape and card stock if necessary) until I have made 50 cards or layouts. I will post them all here and on my blog so I will have an accounting! This will force me to learn how to blur out faces on my layouts as my family does not want their faces (or the grandkids faces) on the internet.

I have also been planning for quite some time to get started back on making card gift sets. I have several acrylic fold up boxes that once assembled hold about 6 cards. I like to have these in for unexpected gift giving...or for when people ask me to donate something handmade to sell for a charity auction.

I have pulled out the supplies and made up a card kit package to make up 6 lavender and purple card for a dear friend that loves purple. I have also pulled together a card kit for some sea/water themed cards. These will be a gift for my girlfriend and her husband who retired up on the Sunshine Coast...by the sea.

I still have my other card clubs I belong to which will help boost my numbers...but think it will take some time to make 50! If I like this I may extend it to 100!!!

I think I will keep the card set kits to work on at the monthly crop I go to. Now I have everything packed up, all I will need to bring are my scissors and a cutter. I even packed tape and pop dots in my kit!

When I post my cards in the gallery, I will mention in the comments card 12 or card 15 etc.
Anyone care to join me?

Maureen

Maureen I would love to join you great idea about the card sets! I will definately make some of those - I don't have any acrylic boxes to put them in but I will figure out some sort of pretty packaging. we will be gone for the weekend and some of next week but I will start working on my 50 cards as soon as we get back !!

I think this is a great idea, other than adhesive I could probably go quite a while without purchasing anything .

Beth and Sarah, I have a PP addiction too. I don't even allow myself to go down the aisles anymore or look at new releases. I really want the new spice market pad from Basic Grey but I do NOT need anymore paper. I have enough to probably wallpaper my whole house and then some !

I think 50 cards is a very doable challenge.

Hi! I'm new around here...at least on this board anyway. I just got back into card making thanks to Jennifer McGuire! I tookmher latest online card class and if any of you have taken one of her classes before you know how easy it is to be enabled by the class. Anyway I shopped and shopped and then I dropped. I have some buyers remorse. The 50 paper project is exactly what I need right now! I have been creating but need to stop spending. I will join this challenge!
I joined the Flickr gallery for Hero Arts, Avery Elle and Wplus9 as well as bookmarked some of my fave card makers. These sites will provide me with some inspiration. I also joined a few challenge sites.
I look forward to taking on this challenge!

Welcome MariClaudi

I have blogged and marked 2 cards out of my 50 but I have made 8 now...42 to go!
It has been relatively easy. I even have been out shopping and did not buy any paper at all! Just the heavy weight cardstock I use to fold my card bases as I was out of white. I bout enough to finish my 50 card!

It is fun to go through my stock like a little store...shopping for free as I go! Thanks to Paperkrafter4life for starting this thread!

I have made 15 cards so far. I'm on spring break and have had the time. I made a card set last night and created 5 cards. So far today I created 1 card and hope to make 2 more for the Hero Arts Sketch Challenge. I'm so bad about blogging...maybe I'll do that tomorrow...I lost the sun already.

Papercrafter4life - It is easier than I thought too. I forgot so many things that i have bought and stashed away. Even if you like to organize, it is still hard to remember everything.

Yesterday I laid out a card kt to make 6 mauve/lilac coloured cards. They are a gift for a friend. I am keeping them quite simple. Just a sentiment verse stamped off center on a die...and a 3D floral cluster added to the off centered side. Then some patterned paper, velvet ribbon, and a couple of dies. It is fun cuz I am pulling everything out to source the bits and bobs I am using. Then I set everything together in a flat woven ribbon basket and work on the cards, only from that basket's contents.

I have all the toppers assembled and should be able to make all 6 cards by tonight. Just have to figure out what to put on the inside...they are birthday and belated birthday cards. Since the verse is already on the outside, I am tending towards having a stamped image with Happy Birthday on the inside.

Yesterday and today, my scrapbook store has a coupon for 40% off an entire line. I am going to buy the heavy weight cardstock that I cut my cards from. It is a great weight and will only be 30 cents a sheet. That was my exception as I knew I was low on the coloured sheets.

I plan to walk right past the paper and embellishments and try not to pause and look at them! Just in and right back out again into the freezer!!! So far it is going so well Imay even extend it to 100 cards!

Heidi - Good for you! 25 or whatever number you pick! Enjoy the challenge of it all...it can be fun! So glad you joined us.

When I finish the set I am working on, I will have finished 14 cards of my 50! It feels really good and honestly I think I could make 500 cards before I even noticed that I really needed anything other than adhesive and heavy weight card!

Of course I miss wandering around the scrapbook stores and grabbing whatever I want but I have gone next door for coffee instead! lol My next door neighbour is the one I craft with...her room is full like mine so she is sympathetic to why I want to do this!

I made 6 step cards yesterday, The first one I spent 1 1/2 hours on can u believe. I added lots of embellishments, rhinestones, etc and it is a bicycle theme paper birthday card, so I will add a diecut bicycle to finish it off. After working on it I made 5 more, of different themes.
the best part about my step cards is a chance to use some of my 12x12 patterned paper. I am doing A-7 step cards, so can get three sets of layers out of one 12x12 sheet, so not using it up very fast, but sure having fun picking patterns, etc.
Prior to my freeze I ordered step card die cuts for my Accucut so don't have to measure, score or cut anything to make them.

Paperkrafter4life - good for you! They sound lovely. I have a confession to make...I have never made a step card. It is on my list of things to master in 2014. I have a Pinterest file with measurements for all sorts of wonderfully folded cards!
Can't wait to see yours. I am at 14 finished of my 50. just haveto get a minute to set up my photo stand and take some photos. I will need to schedule them for my blog posts while I am up at Mums, but think I will post 3 or 4 here in the gallery tonight. Just so you can see I have been cracking on with my goal!

Maureen, one of my step cards is pictured in my post as my avatar. They really are fun to decorate, like a blank canvas. Love the fact they fold flat for mailing.

Hello from my craft space!
I am up to 19 now! Of course I haven't worked on much else (i.e. Project Life.
I blogged about the challenge and how I am taking it a step further.
How is everyone else doing?
I do have to buy paper to create envelopes. I posted the question and the replies suggested buying 32lb paper. Thoughts?

Mariclaudi - thanks for the link to your blog. I popped over and your cards are wonderful!
Will be home from mums and able to post better at home...I am using my iPhone and my data plan!
Really liked that reverse punched card! And you have inspired me to try one with some inky background behind.

I have been so tempted to buy! But have resisted. I really think this challenge has helped me from hitting the order button! Luckily my order from SSS (which was made over 1 month ago) has shipped! I am looking forward to it. I need to make lots of birthday cards for the month of May. Not to mention Mother's Day cards.

Marisol - thanks for your update.
I have finished over 20 now and have posted and blogged 10 of them so far.
I am spending more time in the craft room and that cuts into my blogging time to get them posted! lol
It is the time of year that we get busy with the yard and the gardens...so that cuts into blogging and [posting time too. Eventually, they will get posted...
I am working on 6 masculine cards...4 will go as a gift pack to a friend and I will keep 2 for myself. They will be the inky grungy type...cogs and rusty bits with some sort of image.

I have even been in the LSS and only bought Sook Wang tape...luckily it was 40% off so I bought 2 rolls. I have the really narrow and the really wide ones at home but was out of the medium width. I like to use that for my cards. Marched past the paper, paid and left.

For me, it is goingso well that I will most likely extend it to 100 cards...we shall see!

How is everyone else doing?

Using up already purchased supplies. I made a discovery.
Last year at valentines time I purchased a KI page layout kit for $1.99 at W mart. It was in pinks and did not have hearts on the paper so works for anytime.
I am just now using it and have to say the paper is really, really thick The kit came with four sheets of 12x12 a sheet of punch outs a sheet of stickers, and a sheet of rhinestones all for the above mentioned price. I am going to get way over 20 cards out of this one kit. I made 15 yesterday, all different and still have 2 sheets of 12x12 left plus stickers and punch outs and rhinestones. OMG I was so impressed with the quality. I am going to visit granddaughter today who is a card maker and may see if they have any she can use. That would be a gift and not a frozen purchase for me...........

Way into stay strong ladies!
@scrappymo-I understand what you mean about other activities cutting into blogging time.
@paperkrafter4life-15 cards?! That has to be some sort of record!

I made it into my crart room last night and made a baby card. It barely counts towards the challenge because I only used one new product which was the wink of Stella glitter pen.
But it was purchased in my recent spending spree so it counts!
