I know there's been lots of talk lately about mags going to online subs, and SS is gone, but I just read on the MM site that they are ceasing publication after the Sept. issue. This is so sad. Lots of us like seeing the magazine physically, and having it to take on trips, etc., and I stay on my computer enough, sometimes I just want to "look" at the magazine! I understand the economy is really bad, I just hate to see so many things happening in the industry. I'll miss MM, it was my first ever pub and I've had nothing but good luck with dealing with them too.

I hope it is the last one to go down! It is so sad to see Memory Makers cease publication. There aren't very many left any more.

Isn't that the Creative Memories magazine? I'm surprised that one is still around. I didn't think it got off to a good start to begin with.

Nope, Memory Makers has been around since CK, about the same time anyway, I forget which was actually first.

I agree it's sad

Remember a few months ago we were chatting about how the mag had just a staple in the middle (rather than an actual "spine" ) and how we hoped it didn't mean something bad??

I've always loved MM and the scrap world won't be the same without it.

Memory Makers was the first scrapbook magazine ever. Very sad to see the first go under. But it was taken over by the "bigboys" moved to Cinci and ....

Were they? I've wondered that b/c I remember when MM and CK both had 10 year anniversaries, but CK always claims that they were the first, and Lisa Bearnson always writes her little thing about how it was all her idea and there was nothing like that on the market and everyone thought she was crazy and all that good stuff.

I think there's been some argument on which one actually came out first--my understanding was it was pretty much at the same time. I can see how from Lisa B's point of view, there was nothing like that out there yet because until they both released their first issues, there wasn't. She may not have even known about MM for a while, since it's not like it would have had sudden fame.

It's not just the economy that's killing the magazines. Print media has been losing traction for a long time. In the next couple years we'll all be carrying around portable devices that will be easy on the eyes the way the Kindl--is but in color. It won't be too far off from having a magazine feel but it will be better because it will have multi-media features and internet access. We're just in a transitional face.

I agree that this is the way we are going. I own an Ad Agency, and this is how it's going. Newspapers, Magazines, etc... are going the way of the dinosaur in many ways. Many people are fighting it... but it almost seems inevitable. Personally, I'm very sad about it. I like the smell, the feel, the weight of the actual paper in my hands. And not to sound like a dolt...but what is a Kindl?
