Most people use either Photoshop Elements of Photoshop. It can seem overwhelming at first, but here are some great tutorials on this site that can help you. Can can download a free trial from adobe.com and then work through the tutorials to see if it is something that would work for you. There are lots of free kits on 2peas that you can play with too! Good luck and feel free to ask any questions here. We were all there once! |

Jessica Sprague and Renee Pearson also offer great beginner classes using Photoshop/Photshop Elements on their websites...both are wonderful teachers and get get you up to speed quickly.
If you want more flexibility, Photoshop or Photoshop Elements will give you more than your standard "easy" programs used to digi-scrap. Most of us on this board prefer one of those programs, because once you get up to speed on the programs, you can do so many fun things with them.
I learned to do it with four small kids at home, so if I can learn it, anyone can.
Creative Memories, Broderbund, Polaroid, and other companies all offer digi-scrapping software with varying degrees of functionality. It is really a matter of comparing the programs and seeing which ones fit your needs.
Here is a link to a site that does side by side comparisons of some of the most popular digi-scrapping software:

I don't suppose you're Australian... I did some photobooks with Momento and I loved the options it provided for customizing the page. Very powerful but not too tizzy.
In Photoshop Elements (PSE) there's a Wizard you can use to create photo layouts. I hardly ever see anyone use it but it's brilliant. Just go to the Create menu on the toolbar and choose Photo Layout.
Here are some instructions for PSE5
And I posted some LOs I did using this wizard here 10 min LOs using PSE Photo Layout
Can someone else confirm that this is available in newer versions of PSE?

I'm the Scrapbook Factory nut around here. Love that program! I used some of the backgrounds that come with it in the slideshow I made of DD's 3rd Grade class this past yer.
Am learning PSE7 too. Like you, I'm also new to digi scrapping, but after years of desktop publishing (even back in the days of DOS, before Windows), digi scrapping isn't really "new" as it's pretty much the same thing.

Please take a look at the software called Storybook Plus from Creative Memories. It is not webbased so you do not have to upload pictures that take forever - just bring them in from wherever you store your photos on your computer or from your camera/card. There are endless numbers of templates that can all be customized in every way - color, paper, placement on the page, etc. etc. I have used photoshop and this is FAR better with a much shorter learning curve! Straight language, easy to understand tool bars. You can go to Creative Memories.com for a free version that has many template options or upgrade to Storybook Plus. All the free stuff you download will then also upgrade to the customizeable version. Give it a try - it is the best - archival, stitched binding books up to 100 pages, cards, posters, and more. | |

well, i *would* help, but you're a lion and i'm a boilermaker. i think there're rules...
KIDDING!!! sounds like you have some great startout advice - hang in there; the learning curve IS steep, but if you grab a few quick (pre-made pages - you can find freebies or check online stores) pages, you can play around a little. that's the best way for me to learn something - to just jump in and give it a try... it gets sooooooo much clearer and easier!!! |

Heritage Makers is also another great option. Easy to use. Flexible and allows you to be very creative. Create your pages from scratch or use the Template Gallery. The possibilities are endless. |
