I just upgraded to PSE11 & although it takes some getting used to I love it. (Here's a layout I just did with it.) Has anyone else tried it? Thoughts? Tips?

I love it too. Being able to install actions and styles with such ease makes it well worth the upgrade, IMO.

I also tried the photo merge feature to combine 3 photos so that we were all looking at the camera, and it worked great (took a few tries, but great result). Even though I swore I would never doctor a photo, this feature allows you to make a better composite of the same people in the same pose, that you MIGHT have gotten if the kids were sitting still during the photo shoot! Since I am not altering history, I decided this type of doctoring is not criminal.

That's great to know about the photo merge lizj! I've gotta try that out. -I totally agree w/ you about it not really changing history.

Hi Joscie! Can't wait to see what you think. It feels so different!

I'm tempted but I never even got around to installing 10 on my laptop (I put it on my DD's) - I'm still on 9. I don't want to pay full price (I'm so cheap!). Also am scared that I won't get on with the new interface so well.

Does it still have the project bin and can you add things to your page by dragging UP from the bin?

Is there anything that you really don't like about it?

I agree that the actions thing is tempting, but I have got a few installed the old way and feel quite comfortable with the choice I have, so I'm not sure that in itself is enough reason to upgrade this time.

Yes, Suzanne, the project bin is still there. But, the tools are "nested" with the project bin now, so you have to toggle. Also the layers palette must now be toggled with the effects (although Jessica Sprague's utube video shows a way to change that). I really like 11, but he toggling is a bit of a nuisance. Worth it to me to get to install styles and actions easily.

Suzanne - you should download the free trial of it & see how you like it before you buy it.

If you get the box from Costco it comes with a CD filled with digi goodies for scrappers!!!! Installed mine yesterday after the trial ended and I love it. Definitely worth watching Jessica Sprague's uTube video for some great suggestions on the set up.

Janelle, have you seen Anna Forrest's script to do that? I think it's on sale right now!

I tried to post that last night but the site kept freezing up on me. She is retiring (I bought it but not installed it yet) so it's a now or never thing!

Resurrecting as I've now installed PSE11 but have no idea how to install the Anna Forrest scripts I bought in her retirement sale. Have installed all other actions and layer styles fine but not the foggiest what to do with these.

I'm mind foggy with a flu type thing at the moment though so I think it may be something to try and figure out once I feel better unless anyone else has BTDT already!

I started using PSE11 in November and I love it.. I am learning something new each day and my los look better,I think.. I had always used a CM product but when it developed a glitch and tech support was not there for me... I switched and I am not looking back.

I got PSE11 for Christmas and have just upgraded from PSE 5 would you believe!! It is very different but having it in expert mode makes it very similar to the old version. I've never used actions but I'll look into it, thanks.

I own PSE 9 (maybe 8??) but never got farther than basic layouts with it. I am really wanting to do some more scrapbooking for our family... you all are mentioning things that I have no idea what they are. Actions? Styles? LOL. Is there a good site with tutorials/classes I might take advantage of? I have yet to see what is offered here on Twopeas, but thought I would ask ya'll who seem to really know what you are doing

Actions are effects that you can buy (or create in the full version of Photoshop, but not in PSE) that execute a series of steps to easily achieve the effect. A common type of action is a photo action that will give the photo a particular look, like a warm glow, or a comic look. Styles are also effects that give a particular look to a digital element. A common type of style is a drop shadow, or applying a glitter look, or an acrylic look to an embellishment. In PSE11 they made it super easy to install actions and styles, whereas in prior versions it's a royal PITA to install them.

Here are some styles available at 2Peas:

littls buddies glitter
little buddies acrylic
subtle shadows

You can start with free classes right here at 2Peas (although, these were filmed in a pre-PSE11 version, but will still be very helpful):
digi 101
Sande Krieger digi class

And, if you want a slightly more advanced series, those are available at Jessica Sprague (not free, but worth the low price). HTH!

I just found jessicasprague. Seriously considering giving Project Life a shot. Sounds perfect for my random mish mash of photography of my family. Or is that too serious an undertaking?

Not at all, I think PL is a great way to get started. You'll be able to practice skills on a regular basis! It does help A LOT to take classes, and you can also ask questions here, we're a helpful bunch.

It depends on your commitment to it. There are several people here who have kept up with their project life for several years. Others find that they do monthly instead of weekly LOs-like 12 photos on the 12th or just a monthly review. You could try the weekly or any variety of it. I personally scrap by event than take everyday type photos but you certainly could try it.

I love two peas! I am mostly a lurker. I have done end of the year digi layouts for preschool teachers for my daughters for three years now, and I love it. Unfortunately, I'm missing the mark on recording my personal stuff. With three little girls ages 1, 4 and 5, I don't want to miss anything anymore. And I love that with digi they can all have a copy later if they want it.

I got pse 11 for Christmas, and have to say, I think I'm going to love it! LOVE how easy it is to install things. Before, I'd lose things after I installed them!! Could never find them in the selection!! I also love how to make the project bigger or smaller. I don't care for the separate LAYERS area and separate effects area! I'm definitely going to be looking for that video from Jessica!! It took me a day or so to find the magic wand!! I could have used a users manual!! I upgraded from 9--ohohoh!! I like the text path too!! Can't do that in 9

Totally agree Geekmom, the ability to cut down on creating extra work for myself is one of the key reasons I do digi...especially for projects like that! I bet their teachers love it!
