I have an old MacBook, but I run Bootcamp on it so it's basically a Windows machine. It's FINALLY dying. So, I'm about ready to drop some money on a new laptop.

I could get:

a) MacBook Pro with the retina display. I guess this is supposed to be great for graphics. BUT, only photoshop has the improved software that takes advantage of the retina display, not PSE. So I'd have to learn how to use full-blown PS. And I'd have to get used to the Mac OS. I'm not terribly afraid of this since this will be my 6th or 7th Mac, but I haven't used the Mac side of a Mac for about 8 years.

Dell XPS15. For the same price, I can get about double the hard drive and memory capacity. Bundled with Windows 8, which would I imagine would have some learning curve but probably not as much as learning the Mac OS after not using a Mac for so long.

Eenie, meenie, miny mo....

Thanks for any opinions!

I just went through the whole eenie meenie mine-y mo thing just a couple of months ago. I was on a Dell XPS and the mother board went bad on me. Spent some time going back and forth between getting another XPS and switching to a Mac. I had finally decided to stay with the XPS (because I loOooooved it so much!) and ended up with a 27" iMac.

And though it has taken some getting used to I really do prefer the Mac's OS over the PC's. It just seems so much better suited for the kind of work that I do.

And you know that saying? The one that says "once you go Mac, you never go back?" Uhmm. yeah. that.

It's true.

Oh what a choice

I've been reading reviews of Windows 8 and I'm desperately hoping my desktop doesn't die any time soon. I really don't want to learn a new style of OS (that's still on XP!). My DD has a windows phone and I can't even get my head around that!

Have you decided which way you're going, Nancy?

I WAS a dedicated PC user forever. I changed my ways back in June and bought my first Mac... a MacBook Pro but not the one with retina display. My techie nephew told me that it wasn't worth the money. Seriously, I'm converted. I wouldn't go back to a PC if you gave me one. My Mac is so much faster, so much better all around. I absolutely love it! I also have to admit that I'm not exactly "pro Dell"... had a desktop that lasted as long as the warranty. I say stick with Apple and get yourself a new MacBook Pro - with or without retina display. Either one is better than any Dell (in my opinion).

Another vote for the Macbook! I have both a Dell XP PC and a Macbook Pro. The Mac is vastly superior in every way. When the Dell dies (and we know it will, don't we!), I am not replacing it, unless it's with a Mac desktop.

Before I got the Mac I kept hearing about the huge learning curve and how different the operating system was... I really have not found it to be difficult at all, and I love the little differences that are such an improvement on the Mac.

I liked the suggestion to NOT get the retina display, because then you can stick with PSE, which you already know how to use. That will save you tons of money that you can use for digital supplies!
