Hello! I am very interested in PL but have never done digital or PL. I watched a youtube vid with Jessica Sprague and she made it look really easy. I was planning on ordering the core kit.
My question is...Is it easy and does it cost more to go digital?
Just curious. | |

I just decided about 2 weeks ago to go digital, and I'm finding it is (so far) much much cheaper than "regular" scrapping. There is soooooo much free and available for downloads as far as papers, alphas, and elements.....I'm just finding soooo much out there that you can download for free, and even the stuff I want to buy (I've purchased a few kits), really it is alot ALOT cheaper than going to the store and buying the elements. For software I am using My Digital Studio, which I am still learning but I was pleased to save 50% on it this past week, and if you want some good links for FANTASTIC digital download websites, let me know and I'll send them to your inbox. Have fun!! |

I forgot to mention, I do find it pretty easy (I'm still learning though....), and it has been really fun playing and designing. ALSO.... nice not to have a mess to clean up after an afternoon of scrapping. |

As far as easy--you'll find a lot of different opinions on this. My Digital Suite and a few other specifically digital scrapbooking programs are fairly easy to use as I understand it. Most of us here at Two Peas do use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (which is what I started with). As far as the decision of what to purchase, depends on what you are looking for your LOs to look like. If you watched a Jessica Spraque video--I'm guessing it was a Photoshop product.
You can also get pretty good deals on Photoshop Elements if you don't buy the latest version--and even the most up-to-date versions are only about $100 to purchase. You can also get 30 day free trials on most of the programs to try them out first before you make a decision.
And as Stephanie said--there are lots of freebies out there to start with but as you feel more comfortable you will probably want to actually purchase some kits as well. You kind of have to be careful with the quality of some freebies out there if you care about that. But even buying a kit is economical compared to paper--you can use everything as many times as you want. You never run out of letters in your alphas, etc. No mess.
I print all my LOs in photobooks through Shutterfly. Love that option and I just keep my eye out for sales and free shipping offers to get the best deal when I buy my books too. Usually ends up being about a buck a page to print in an 8x8 album if I take advantage of the sales.
HTH! |

I think the hardest part of the project is sticking with it. For myself, personally, I wouldn't be able to stick with it. I choose instead to document one day a month and scrapbook pages of it rather than trying to do a photo everyday.
It's not my style, and wouldn't do it, but I love looking at other people's PL pages... Jennifer Hignite has awesome PL pages that I find really fun and inspiring...you should check out her pages in the gallery.
If you think it's a project you will love, you should give it a try. If decide it's not for you and want to try something else, you certainly can. There are so many variations on the project, that you can just document one day, one week, or some people like to document the highlights of their month. Really, there's a lot of flexibility, and you don't have to worry about the scrapbooking police coming after you if you modify the project to fit your needs... |

Actually-I'm with Lorell on the ability to do it daily. I haven't tried any of the variation like 12 on the 12th, monthly, etc either. I'm an event scrapper rather than an everyday life scrapper. But if you want to do it, digital is definitely the way to go IMO. |

Thank you ladies for taking the time to post your replies. I have been A paper scrapper for a while, and I am not sure how well I would pick up digital. I'm on the fence, I really don't know what to do.

Welcome to the dark side, Stephanie!
And I say give it a go, HoneyBee! If all else fails you can always go back to "traditional" scrapbooking. No harm. no foul. |

Adobe did have a 40% off code for Photoshop Elements 11 when purchased from their website. You can try it and see if it still works. BF2012
OR
Amazon has it right now for $49.99 with free shipping. Amazon also allows for download, so you could have it right away.
I do both digital and traditional. Digital has become much cheaper for me since I took out a membership with Costco. Their price to print 12x12's is really good. |

Digi is alot easier and costs less $.
You can print 8x8, 8.5x8.5 or 8.5x11 cheaper than 12x12. You may be able to have them printed at a local store. Even if it's not printed on photo paper, the quality is great with photo like paper.
Or.............(holding my breath) do NOT print your PL pages. Format them for a digital picture frame. Have extra copies of your PL in case it gets lost in a move, ect...

Hi,
I am doing PL digi for almost a year now and I love it. I call it 'scrapping on the bench'- at the end of the day I make some stuff on my laptop using PSE. That's the way I'm not behind...
The only purchase I did was the template at Jessica Sprague- the rest was free. The printing of the book at the developer is expensive, but worth all the effort: a whole year of events in my hands (I need 3 books this year )
BTW: I scrap also traditional and hybrid- the idea that I create on different manners keep the inspiration flow..
Have a nive day-Nita |

I do Project Life digital all the way - for me, they are far and away my favorite pages to go back and look through. In terms of product I use all kinds of different stuff to make it work for me - stuff specifically designed to work with PL pages and stuff totally not designed that way. I say give it a go, what's the worst that can happen?
Oh, and welcome to digital, take your coat off and stay a spell. |

For me I switched to digi a couple years ago and never looked back. It's cheaper, it's more flexible, I can reuse elements, alpha, papers, i can recolor everything, resize everything, and I can scrap anywhere I can take my laptop. No mess, no clean-up. And digi has some techniques you just can't do in paper...
I use PSE7 and so far it works fine for me.
And by going digi, you aren't giving up the option of paper, just adding to your scrapbook options.
Whatever you do, scrapping is the bottom line, however you do it.

Has anyone ever printed out their PL albums? If so, where do you print them? I am leaning towards going digital with this project but I am not sure about where and the cost of printing the final project...any advice would be appreciated. |

I have mine printed as individual pages at Persnickety Prints - I had thought about waiting until the end of the year when everything was done, but for me part of the advantage of traditional PL was that the pages were viewable as you went through the project. By printing these pages out as I finish them I get that same benefit. I print them individually and put in pocket protectors - I have used a WRMK 3 ring binder as my album of choice for this year. The pages cost me $2 each to have printed - I can't print at home for that sooo.... |

I started digi layouts about 6 months ago. One thing I love about it, is that there is mess!!whenever I paper scrap I have a disaster to clean up. I have been saving my digi layouts and am going to print when there is a sale. |

This past year, I've done PL via paper. I love the concept but not the bulk.
I've been looking for a way to do it digitally where it wouldn't take much time.
I had a "Why didn't I think of that" moment. This doesn't include any "bling" but you can always add.
I take photos.
Send them to my computer.
I journal using "Oh Life".
I make a picture collage in Picassa of the photos.
I add the journaling from "Oh Life".
I print the page.
I can print an 8 1/2 x 11 page and put it in office supply page protectors in a binder. Easy! |
Cheers from Southeast Sunny Florida!

there are also a lot of digi templates out there that can make doing it digi super quick and easy - then you can reuse anything you want as far as products go without breaking the bank. |

I did my own version of PL last year - monthly "highlight" pages. Kept them pretty simple using templates and the same format; didn't overly embellish - was more about the photos and the journaling and getting everything down on paper. Didn't do PL this year, but with 10.11.12 and 12.12.12 this year, I really enjoyed doing that style of memory keeping again ... signing up for next year. Not sure on format, yet ... I'm seeing people pinning and tagging various files, digital and traditional - will be digital for me ... maybe highlights again - not sure if I could keep up with a photo a day (and my life's pretty boring - what would I take pictures of? ) |

I am with Janelle! Print as I go- and I don't scrapbook in order! I think one issue scrappers have is striving to be "caught up"-- we're never really caught up Project Life is about the moment- I have my kids write on journaling cards and share their feelings too.
I print individual pages at Persnickety- they're great, they actually work with Becky Higgins & provide the rounded corners if you want them pre-rounded. (I just keep my corners as-is)
Once you receive your first digital prints, you'll never turn back! The drop shadows pop off the page!

I have done photo-a-day/project life for three years and I have always done it digitally and I LOVE it!! I highly recommend giving it a try!
In the end, I do think it's cheaper, but I have never priced it out. But the way I look at it, each template is only $1.99 at AC Digitals and then if you only use one of Becky's Project Life core kit and nothing else, that is a huge savings! For one, you can reuse the same cards as many times as you want!! With paper you would need to repurchase the cards.
As far as printing your book, I use Blurb. I actually just did a big post about it on my blog (http://sherimaehorton.blogspot.ca/) that details what I do to create and print my weekly layouts. Maybe it might help answer some of your questions
If you do decide to start, good luck! |
