What size font should I use in my 12x12 layouts and also 8x8? I'm working on layouts now and haven't had any printed yet.

It's really up to you, Ashley. Are you talking about titles or journaling? For journaling I generally use at least 12 pt. type, up to as high as 18 pt. But every font is different. Technically a point is a point, but you'll find that not all 14 pt fonts look the same, for example. So, you just have to test it out and see what you like. Also, I tend to use smaller type for larger blocks of journaling, larger type for shorter labels, sentences or paragraphs.

I've discovered that I often err on the side of making my type too large. I've rarely printed a layout and found my journaling too small. However too large for one might be just right for someone else.

Bottom line- play around with your type sizes. Have something printed and see if you like the size, and then you can use that as a general guideline.

It kind of depends on the size you plan on printing as well. As I said in my yearbooks post to you, I scrap in 12x12 but print 8x8. So I need to use a font that will be big enough to read when I reduce it to the 8x8 print. I typically use at least 16 or 18 just so I can read it better once I get my album.

I am super old school on this. The reason is, I think what generated your question. When I first started scrapping digitally and had my pages printed the font was WAY to big - because I was looking at it "computer screen sized". Believe it or not, now I actually zoom in to actual print size when selecting my font size. I keep a a ruler handy at all times to check that it is 12" wide and actually look at it that way for the journaling. A weird pain in the behind, I know - but it always means I'm happy after they get printed.
