There are some new trends in scrapbooking that I am still trying to wrap my mind around! Just when I finally accepted that banners were a good thing, we got chevrons, chalkboard and wood veneer! Are there any popular trends you love and use over and over? Any you hate? (Go ahead, you can tell us.)
I love mists. I like banners, although, as I said, I took me a while. I have seen some fabulous lo's using chalkboard that made me want to try that, but I haven't yet. I am trying journal cards and am liking them more than I expected.
I still have a hard time with one teeny, tiny photo lost on a very clutterd page. Other people can pull that one off, but I really can't.
I remember taking a class once in which the instructor said that luminating eyes on a b&w photo looks creepy, so even though I've seen some that turned out fairly well, that comment keeps me from that technique myself. (I know some of you took classes with the same person so I notice YOU never have glowing eyes on a b&w photo either!!!).
What other trends float your boat or make you cringe? |

I still really like chevrons, washi tape and banners. Love the newer wood veneer look, the doilies and mists but I'm having serious difficulty with the chalkboard look. It definitely doesn't float my boat - too dark for me I think!!
So far I haven't seen that many feathers in the digi lines but perhaps those are still coming up.

I like the chalkboard look although there is really only so much of it you really want to use. I like the washi tape when I find the need to use a tape fastener. I use an occasional chevron.
Not really into the mists, banners, glitter.
I have been liking the 365/PL templates lately although I wonder how much one should really use them--especially since I don't do PL to make sure I have an album that "matches" the whole way through. I feel like I should have more variety than that for my LOs.
That is all I can think of at the moment. |

I love hexagons (Had to say it Liz) I like mists, paint, stitching, pp strips, doilies, chevrons, masks and photo focus. And a white stroke or white frame around the photos, I almost always use that.

I am liking the wood veneer that I'm seeing! Haven't jumped in and bought any though. I also am in love with washi tape. So easy to use. I also like mists, glitter, confetti.

That's because you're good at them and I'm not!
I forgot about doilies, thanks Jane. Love doilies! |

Washi tape! I've never even touched an ACTUAL piece of washi, but I love to use it on digital layouts! Chevrons are okay, but not my favorite. I really like journaling cards. I don't do PL, but I like Project Life type layouts with lots of photos. I like the vintage camera and typewriter "stamped" looks, but really don't use them all that well.
What in the world do you DO with feathers? I can't imagine making them work on a layout. |

I don't get into the wood grain thing, although I've seen others do some cool stuff with it. I honestly don't understand the idea of pages without journaling or single photos, but I respect that others do this well and it's just not my style.
I actually like mists and Washi tape, although I feel like I'm still learning to use tape. And, dare I say it...I still have a real thing for paper tearing, even though it's technically not trendy anymore. I'm also a sucker for cute title work...either a cute phrase or clever embellishment of letters or fonts. |

I am totally loving the wood veneer look, and I kind of can't remember the last layout I made without some kind of mist or paint drops (not kidding) I also love the look of cut-out lettering.
Trend I am most glad to see less of ... chandeliers, never could wrap my head around it. |

I'm terrible with trends. If some thing is in guaranteed ill start using it a year later. I never really follow any trends but I do love the banners. |

Hey Lorell, I just read through all of these - for the record, I really love the look of torn paper too. I'm pretty sure that I will always use it regardless of trends. ***Bringing back torn paper*** |

Great conversation! I just made a layout the other day and thought "It's been awhile since I've used the torn paper look, I need to do that again!" I hadn't realized how much I missed using torn paper. When I was a paper scrapper, it was definitely a go to technique for me. I hope it makes a comeback too! If it doesn't, I may end up doing it anyway just because I remembered I love it. |

Oh I used to use torn paper a lot in my paper scrapping, never figured it out in digital. I actually spent some time going through my paper scrapping albums the other day and notice that those pages I don't find dated are the more linear ones with a cleaner style, which is rather strange as I really prefer to slap loads of stuff on pages when I create (paper and digi).
Like ShanB though, I tend to take a while to warm to a trend. For example banners. Now I love them. I do really like the wood effect items though (married to a joiner perhaps that is why). I struggle with washi, haven't taken on board the whole instagram thing nor Project Life of any of those projects that require an ongoing commitment.
Have to say that I truly hope butterflies stay fashionable ad infinitum!

I'm not sure I could ever go back to the sticker sneeze phase...I never really understood it when it was done a lot. I do have some pages in my albums with sticker sneezes, though...
I would be so excited if paper tearing was trendy again...woo Hoo! |

Where shall I begin? LOL I loathe the hashmark thing. I don't even like reading them on FB posts - unless it's one word, it takes to much time to read. I don't get it.
Chalkboard - I LOVE the look, and I think I only have one or two digi things. That being said, I don't think it's something I could use a lot because I think it will look repetitive (if that makes sense).
Wood veneer - it's another of those things that I like but I won't be able to use much of.
Chevrons - I like them, but they have to have a certain look and they can't be too big. The big chevron arrows - not too fond of those.
Hexagons - I really don't like them much; not sure why. I think it's because they remind me of a beehive. LOL
White space LOs - nope. My DH and DS like BIG photos, and so do I.
Chandeliers - I never have and probably never will use a chandelier on a LO unless it has to do with Halloween or a real-life chandelier. LOL
Banners - They are okay; I have used them to complete a challenge.
Cluttered pages - NOPE! The reason I scrapbook is for the photos and journaling. If I can't find a photo among a bunch of stuff, it's not scrapboooking - in my book.
Doilies - I like them but I can't use them often because I do a lot of boy pages.
Washi tape - I, too, have never bought any IRL, but I've used it on some LOs; I don't like it to be wrinkled, though.
Mists and paint splatters - I LOVE THESE!! If I could, I'd use them on every single layout. I like glitter but I can't use it that often because most of the time they don't go with boy LOs, IMO. Well, I can't pull it off.
Journaling cards - as much as I journal, I don't use them much in my LOs.
I think that's it. |

I love dovetailed banners, washi tape, postal stripes, flair, sequins, doilies, woodgrain, veneers, twine, mists, chevrons.
I'm over hexagons, banners (bunting). |

I still love:
chevrons, tiny "B" side prints
aqua, cobalt, green, yellow, pink color combos
large photos
photo freedom aka project life
I like the digital spray on my digi pages, but not my papes. I also embellishment more on digi pages instead of paper because usually everything comes in a kit and it isn't very expensive. Now that i know to use banners via puppet wharp too, I'm liking those too.
