I am hoping to get this a bit more organized. I used to scrap in chronological order and printed as I went, so it was not an issue. Now, I scrapbook out of order, and also have smaller albums I am also working on like vacations, family reunion, pregnancy and Project Life.
How do you keep your layouts organized? Do you organize before you print them? Organize the files until after you have them printed?
For example, I have all my 2012 Project Life layouts that are not printed yet. and won't be until the year is done. Ideally I would like to see these all in one album. Then I have random pages scrapped for my Christmas album going back to like 1985, 2003, etc. all those will go into 1 album.
Just wondering how others deal with the completed and in process pages. |

Mine are not all that organized! My December Daily pages from 2011 are in a folder. My December Daily pages from 2012 also have a folder. The rest are just sitting in a folder in alphabetical order! That wasn't helpful, was it?  |

Yeah I have some stuff in folders already like December Daily.. week in the life.... this year I want to finish projects, but I want to also work on current stuff. otherwise, I feel like I'm in a never ending circle. I've been searching for blog posts and things like that but all the ones that show pretty screenshots are on digital kit organization. That part I have down ok. |

Mine are all in folders based on who is the main focus. I have family folders for each year, and each child has his or her own folder based on their age. I have a just for me folder, heritage folder, dog folder... it depends really on how I think I will look for the lo again. But, I am religious about printing all of my lo's right away. It's rare that a lo will languish more than a week on my computer before I print. But I print at home, and I think that really changes the options for printing. Printing immediately is not necessarily the goal when you are doing PL (which I don't do, but admire those who do). I rarely have an event lo, but if I do, I would file it in the folder that has the main focus of the lo.
It's smart of you to try to organize this, especially if you are going to print through a printing company, so you're sure you don't miss any lo's. |

I keep a folder for each year and just name layouts as I feel like it. I do keep up as I take pictures though and I load them up to Shutterfly as soon as I am done. So I don't worry too much about how I organize them. |

I rarely print my layouts, so I just organize them for my own viewing.
For my computer, I just have them in a Digital Scrapbooking file, organized however I choose to at the moment, either alphabetically or chronologically. (I just call them up however I want to search).
But, I have 3 galleries on iPhoto. One is ALL of my layouts, arranged artistically. By that, I mean I put them in order of how I like to look at them... I might place them by color or how many photos are on a layout, by single page & double pages. (For example, I try to have 2 single pages, then a double page, then two singles and a double. I won't put two blue layouts in a row, etc.)
Then I have a gallery of all my heritage layouts. I arrange them similarly, but also include subject... so I try to vary and stagger the ones about my childhood vs. ones about my grandparents, or parents, etc, then organize by color and theme. Lastly, I have my favorites. This is about 1/5 the size of my main gallery. These are just the ones I like the best, and I constantly go in and weed out old ones, and add in new ones, and change things up so I have around the same number of them at any given time. The purpose of these galleries is that I keep them on my iPhone, so I can share them, or look at them, or get ideas, or just keep track.

Well, PRIOR to the great external hard drive crash of 2012, which left me with nothing to actually organize, this is how I did it. I'm actually ridiculously organized, except, apparently, when it comes to backing up my important stuff
I have a scrapbooking file. In that file I have subfolders like "Actions" "Brushes" "Kits" and "Templates." So when I pick up new things I have somewhere to put them. I also have a "Published books" folder and a "Books in Progress" folder. So I save every layout by the book its going to go in. In my published books folder are the jpgs for each book I have created. I usually get red of the PSD files about a year after the book is published. So there's a "Book 1" folder all the way up. I have created ABC books and baby books, and those are all in their own folders, too.
I my "Books in Progress" folder I have subfolders for each book I am currently working on. All the psd files are there, and then there's a subfolder called "jpg" where I put the jpgs that I have already uploaded into Cherishbound. I don't print until the end of the year either. But this way, if I am working on more than one book at a time, I can keep track of that and know how far I'm progressing. I also keep track of each book in an Excel sheet, laying out what will go on each page. So yeah, I'm super organized--at least in THIS area! I always print my books so LO's are just organized by book. There is a folder for each book I do. thats it nothing fancy. |

I have been digi scrapping for almost 7 years now, and I have never had a system. I really don't have that many LOs, compared to many of you.
The 72dpi images are kept in a folder in the order in which I scrapped the LOs, but I don't scrap chronologically; if need be, I can put them in alpha order. Over the years, I have taken most of the PSDs off my computer and put them on CDs.
However, as I was gathering LOs to make a Shutterfly book (I have $20 credit when I bought school photos  ), I realized that I need to be much better organized. I was really thinking about doing EXACTLY what Debi does except maybe add another for a printable 8x8 - I print mainly 12x12, which is what my DS (who will inherit these) and my DH like, but I can't remember if Shutterfly will automatically change from a 12x12 to 8x8.
At least your digi supplies are organized - I'm STILL working on that |

Lizj I like your system. Having 4 grown children, I'd like to do it that way so I can make each of them a book of their family. Then one book with MIXED layouts in them for each of the families. I think I'll try to do it like that from now on!! Thanks for the suggestion. Geeze--I have to do that. Another thing on my TO DO list!! I'm SO unorganized in this area. |

Thanks for the wonderful ideas! Lots to think about. I started scrapbooking when I was still pregnant with my first, so in the pictures part of it, I don't feel as overwhelmed.
But as my boys grow and now adding 1 more addition to my family, I want this to have a better system! |

Remember too that you aren't limited to just one way of organizing them. I might have a lo stored in a family 2012 folder, but if each child is in the lo, I might also add the same lo to their folders and also print it for their individual albums. I figure the kids will want their own albums one day so I like to make sure they have lo's in their books that they're featured in. Try and do THAT with a traditional IRL page - can you imagine physically creating a lo for more than one book, as opposed to just clicking more copies when you print?! |

Oh heavens I'm truly lacking on this front. I haven't ever printed a digital page yet. And all of the pages I have scrapped are simply in the folders relating to the store of the products I use (pretty well all of my pages are for CT's).
I can see this yet another organising project I need to get my head around! |

I am always amazed that some of you don't print. My DGS(s)love to thumb through their books. Is it because of the cost or because you do so many layouts? Just curious- I agree that cost can be a bit intimidating. | |

Lack of choice for 12x12 printing in the UK means that it's very expensive and we don't get coupons or amazing deals like you do in the US either. Am considering 8x8 as a way of getting over that.
I also paper scrap so I do have a lot of pages in albums to browse through. Though I don't do many paper pages at home now I still manage 4-5 each month when I go to crop or take part in online challenges.
ETA my paper albums aren't organised either! I just scrap whatever I feel like at the time, when there's a big pile of finished layouts I just put them into albums to keep them tidy and safe.
Yet another organisational task that lies ahead!
