Has anyone else ever done this? I did it Wednesday afternoon & I was sick when my dh found it in the washer. The first thing I did was cry. then I googled to see who else this had happened to & if there was any hope for me.
I placed it in a jar of rice for about 27 hours. I couldn't stand it any longer so I had to put it on the charger to see if it would come on. It did! All my apps were there & even showed missed calls and text message notification. It couldn't find the 3G or wifi so I knew that it wasn't back to normal. I placed it back in the rice for another 24 hours. Last night I checked it & I can send & receive calls again. I'm not sure if I have ringtones anymore though. Anyway, yesterday I placed the bag of rice in a bag of DampRid which is a moisture absorber. I'm leaving it in this bag all weekend so hopefully by Monday it will be all better. Last night it still had a little wet spot on it.
Of course this week everyone has asked me why I didn't have it in a Lifeprooof box. Those must be pretty new because I had never heard of them when I got my phone last year.
I can upgrade in 6 months & my contract is up in 10. I'll have a waterproof case for my next one for sure.

Well, crud! So sorry for you!

By Lifebox do you mean Otterbox? Or are they two different things? I have an Otterbox for my iPad and my Samsung. Wouldn't even think of using either of them without protection (I'd end up doing something equally bad like what you did or worse).

Crossing my fingers everything works out for you!

Well I've never heard of either Lifebox or Otterbox and I just have one of those flimsy little plastic shields on the face of mine! You were so lucky! I have heard of a Blackberry surviving the washing machine, but not an iPhone. Whew!

This has never happened to me, but I have heard of putting a wet phone in either rice or salt. I'm glad it worked for you!

I'm praying for the best for you. I accidentally dropped mine in chicken broth while I was cooking & following a new recipe on my phone. Thankfully, the rice did the trick. But I cried too. It's an awful feeling.
Hang I there.

I'm sorry, it's a Lifeproof case, lol! Someone on another forum told me that I should put my phone on a food dehydrator. She said that she dried out a blackberry one and a car remote.
I'm not sure I want to try the dehydrator though.
I think the Lifeproof cases are fairly new? I'm not sure that I'll buy one for this phone but I'll get one for the next phone though.

thank you for sharing the rice trick. brilliant!! i purchase phones for my corporate users and this is a great way to keep from buying new phones!! i have alot of folks who think that if they "accidentally" drop their iphone in water (around the time that the new iphones come out) that i should upgrade them to a new one. i love this for myself too. otterbox is what we choose at my house. drop proof.

I dropped my old cell phone in a puddle then ran it over, I used rice and it survived.

update: my Iphone was working but it wouldn't hold a charge. I tried placing it on a charger but the battery kept going down.
Well, today I took it to the Smartphone EMT store and had them look at it. They took it apart and said that I needed a new charger plate. The battery was okay but they thought it would work with a new charger plate.
After placing the new plate in it still wouldn't hold a charge. The repair guy told me to keep it on a charger because it might eventually start charging. I'm thinking to myself that it's hopeless;however,After 4 hours on the car charger it started charging!
While I was there someone brought a phone in that had been in the lake, so I'm not the only one who has had water damage.

I watched a YouTube on testing a phone that had been placed in a tank of water.

They put the phone into a bag of small silica packages. You know - those little packs that come in lots of things we buy.

Left it for awhile and it worked.

So keep those packages just in case you need to dry your phone and don't have rice.
