Anyone know how to have 2 active files open simultaneously? I want to move layers from one .psd file to another, but need both open at once. Had no trouble doing this in PSE7 but can't see how to do it in PSE11.
So who has figured that out?

I need this when I want to use parts of a template on a new page.

I didn't find a way to have 2 files active in the active image area but I did find a work around to take parts of one file and copy it into a 2nd file. The file you want to move stuff from should be open in the active image area. Select the layers you want to move in the layers palette (hold down control and select each layer for multiple layers); then go to the actual image and using move tool drag your selected layers down to the other page in your photo bin. Not quite as straight forward, but it works.

I've had trouble figuring it out in PSE10 too. I had no problem in PSE4 either.

I have PSE10 sitting unused on my computer for this (and many) other reasons I just find the jump from PSE6 to 10 quite a leap. Lots and lots of changes.

Window>Images and select either Cascade or Tile from the flyout menu? Is this what you mean?

You have to go to your preferences to allow it

Edit > Preferences > General

That will bring up a box that you can then check what you want - probably says something like Allow Floating Documents. (don't have PSE open right now or I'd check exactly, but you'll easily recognize it)

PAM no that puts everything you have open in your active window. Don't want that.

JANELLE thanks, I think that's what I want...floating windows. I'll give it try.
