Hello again, everyone!

Welcome to Part 1 of Week 3 of our class. The first project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Paint...Ranger's Paint Dabbers. Today's video talks about creating backgrounds with these acrylic paints.

And, of course, we need prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick a winner of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger. Please post your project by Sunday, 7/5 at 11pmEDT.

The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects for acrylic paints. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking Class, Week 3.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

Have fun!

Makes me want to quit my day job and become a creative recluse! <grin> I actually have 3 unopened bottles of these paint dabbers - just wasn't sure what to do with them ... now I am bursting at the seams to run home tonight and take a run at it. THANKS so very much for all the helpful hints ... you rock!!

Another totally awesome, technique filled video! WOW!

I have a few of the paint dabbers (the orange set, white and the gold) that I received when I took a couple of Tim's CKU classes (which rocked!) But I must have had spaced when told that they should be kept upside down because mine were standing upright along with my other paints! I hope that they will still work!

Dang it! I knew I should've picked up some of those. Oh well. I have plenty o' acrylic paint. After going to 2 M's and ACM yesterday looking for blue embossing powder I don't think I'll be going back for awhile.

How cool that stamp was made from a love letter from your family. I've always been leary of certain script stamps because I don't know what they say or what they are about.

So the "Old Letter Writing" stamp is made from a real letter, one that your grandfather wrote to your grandmother. That is beyond cool! I love that stamp and use it all the time.

Anyway, I have one paint dauber (it's Copper) but I have other acrylic paints, so I'm planning to pretty much lift your design for the "Merci" card (hey, I even have the copper book plates). I'll change it to a birthday card though, for my good friend who's birthday is in September.

Can't wait to mess up the ol' craft sheet!

Hi Jennifer!

I've heard some of the Peas chattering that they have had problems with the paint dabbers, after the first use, with trying to get the paint to flow out. I see that you store yours right side up. Any tips for the gals that are having a hard time with their dabbers?

I haven't bought any yet because of the chatter, but if you convince me, I'm headed out today!

Jennifer, loving this class. It has me thinking up ideas all day long. Question on the sponge - ink aplicator from week one. Is that the same wooden aplicator that is used with the alchol inks? Or am I looking for something different? I checked on the shopping list for lesson 1 and it was not there. I saw one at the store but it said for alchol inks, and I do not believe it had foam pads. Help?

Yes, the tool is the same. You can buy packs of felt for the alcohol inks or packs of foam for the distress inks and use the same tool. A couple of years ago when I bought mine on-line I didn't realize they were the same so bought one of each

Okay, I never should have started watching these videos. I haven't picked up a stamp in a year, and now I have a shopping list so I can go out and buy the dabbers & mat & the ranger tool thing so I can do the awesome distress ink stuff. Not to mention the gorgeous stamps you're using! UGH! There goes my pocket book!!

When I went to a workshop, even the instructor was having a hard time with the Dabbers. Everyone was banging them on the table. Then I watched Tim Holtz's Product Demo Video. He shows how to get them started. First you shake the bottle. He explains that there's a valve inside the tip. You don't bang the Dabber, you press it onto the craft sheet, and you squeeze the bottle. Just keep pressing until the ink flows.

If it has really dried out, you can unscrew the top, spritz some water into the bottle and stir it up with a craft stick. He said it will maintain it's properties and color even if you add water. Then put the top back on and shake it again. Spritz some water onto the craft sheet and start pressing the Dabber into that water to get it going.

I hope this works because I've had mine for a while and I've never used them.

no worries - iwill find all the projects and make sure you are entered for the applicable week.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and I'm loving every minute of these videos. You're doing a terrific job, Jennifer!

About those dabber tops - sometimes the paint dries so completely in the sponge that you can't rehydrate them. At one time Ranger sold replacement tops because of the problem with them drying up but I think if you just store them upside down you'll be ok.

Hello Jennifer,

Just posted a card that was for class week 2...but didn't have the option to post it in the correct place. Am I wrong in thinking that we still had today to post for week 2's class? I posted it on week three as I didn't know where else to put it. Sorry, I have never done this before, I'm a newbie still trying to get the hang of things. Please let me know and I will delete it if I should not have posted it there.

Thanks so much,

Whoops! I haven't read through it yet. For some reason, it takes about two to four hours to print the Thinking Inking pdf files. I don't know why. Everything else prints fine, even other pdf files. These did too the first two times. After that, it starts to print, stops, waits 20 minutes or so, starts up again, stops, . . . You get the idea.

Anyway, while the Thinking Inking pdf files are printing, my entire computer slows down to a crawl. (The first time this happened, I thought it was my computer so I ran an extended scan, opened up the box and used canned air on it, turned it off for a while--nothing helped, but my computer is clean.) After this happening a couple of days, I started waiting until bedtime to print them. Only now, my daughter is sleeping in the front room with the computer because the cat is confined to her room for a few days (post-surgery). The cat keeps her awaake all night.

How's that for an excuse!

I don't have any paint dabbers and maybe like 4 bottles of acrylic paint! I didn't think I'd have a use for them! Now I have to make ANOTHER trip to M's! Seems like I've been going every couple days for something! But, I love the classes, Jennifer, and like everyone says, so inspiring!

This was fun! Sadly I don't have any paint daubers (they're on my list now though!) so I just used regular ol' acrylic paint and a make-up sponge.

Jennifer - I was pretty skeptical about the easy clean-up of the paint on the craft mat, but it worked just like you said. Fantastic tip!

Did this Monday afternoon, managed to get it on the gallery yesterday & totally spaced re: putting it on the board. Sigh. This week's been a helluva year & my tedious in-laws haven't even arrived yet. Worst part is, they're visit is going to interfere with my participation in Thinking Inking.
