Hello again, everyone!

Welcome to Part 2 of Week 4 of our class. The first project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Distress Crackle Paint from Ranger. Today's video talks about combining it with stamping.

And, of course, we need prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick a winner of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger. Please post your project by Sunday, 7/12 at 11pmEDT.

The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects for crackle paint. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking Class, Week 4.

NOTE: If you don't have Distress Crackle Paint and are unsure it is for you, be sure to watch the videos. It is a fun product! If you don't have any (yet) to use, you can do other paint techniques for the challenge. I don't want anyone left out.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

Another great video with lots of ideas to try. I've always been a little intimidated by the Crackle Paint because I was never sure what else to do with it. Now I know

Wow! All that and Basic Grey too -- it doesn't get any better than this! I can't wait to experiment with some of these techniques. BTW, I love the use of BG 6X6 border papers -- I'm going to be lifting that design on a regular basis. Thanks again for another awesome & educational video.

Love this class, so far I have learned so much. Today my favourite was the butterfly. I will be doing that just as soon as my (ordered) butterfly stamp comes in. Did you really cut around the feelers, or did you do those separately on the card. That could be tricky cutting out the antennae without having it so thin it breaks off the card.

I do not have the crackle paint. did not think I
would like it. But after watching this video
have learned that everything is worth trying.
I also like the butterfly. But since I have no
distress crackle paint - this will be the
first week I do not submit something in the 4 weeks
I have checked this out. My husband is amazed
on how much I have learned in such a short time.

Here is my simple card. I did have a bit of trouble getting a clean image over the crackle paint, but, I guess it gives it an aged look.

Loving these ideas for Crackle Paint. Painting in shapes is pure genius! I bought one bottle when it first came out, but wasn't able to get the results I was hoping for so I gave up on it--Now I realize I was trying to brush it out to much (and putting it on too thin). Thanks for the tips!

Jennifer, is there a secret to getting it to crack like the yellow chipboard circle you showed? It almost looks like a brick wall, the cracks are so uniform & straight. Does it matter how you brush it on? Like brushstrokes only in one direction or something? Also, when I try to use acrylic paint or Distress ink to define the cracks, little bits of the crackle paint flake off, leaving the chipboard underneath exposed. Perhaps I'm working it too hard, but if I use a lighter touch, then nothing really seems to seep into the cracks. Can you do more than one coat of crackle paint on a piece? And then, do you let it dry & crack between coats? And do you make the coats thinner than you would if you were just doing one? Sorry for all the questions. Last week, I was having a great time with the techniques when lots of other people seemed to be having difficulty. This week, I must say, I'm struggling with the Distress crackle paint. Nothing's working or looking like I expect it to, based on your and Tim's videos. I guess the crackle paint & I are not feeling the love yet!

Hi Jennifer, love your class! Can't wait to take a look at each new video. Queston: this is the first time taking a class on"two peas", so I'm still learning my way around. (pretty slowly at that!)

I saw last week the "badge" question and what you came up with for this class. So I'm guessing that as I take classes here some come with these "badges", which is cool. (and here's the question, how do I attach them to my posts? At a loss on how to make this work.

Not quite sure if my other 2 replys ever got thru, as I do not remember getting a response.

again - great class. Maybe I'll get brave enough to submit a piece.

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for these classes. There is so much to learn even after 6 years of stamping/cardmaking/scrapbooking!

I have a couple of questions:

1 Which cs did you use last week for the resist technique with paint daubers?
2 I noticed you used the white side of the 'cut'n' dry' foam for dabbing paint so when is the grey side used?
3 How long will these classes/message boards stay up when the 9 weeks is over?

I live in the UK and don't have a LSS anywhere near me so have never taken a class in real life so this is faulous. Thanks again to you, 2peas, Hero Arts and Ranger/Tim Holtz

I have really enjoyed watching these videos and seeing the fun things that can be done with these products.

I do have a question, though. In one or two of the earliest videos in this series, something flat was used that was white on one side but gray or blue on the other. Is it just one of the pads from the blending tool but used with fingers instead of on the tool?

I did a layout for Celebrate the Seasons and used the crackle paint on the chipboard stars. I used tattered rose crackle paint and then inked over with fired brick. On another star I used brushed pewter crackle paint but you will see that it didn't crackle. The directions on the bottle say that it takes longer to dry. It's been 3 days and it hasn't crackled. Anyone know why?

Fun challenges this week. I sorta jumped ahead and did a bit of what was shown in part 3 I guess by covering my stamped shapes with diamond glaze (although the chipboard and crackle paint seemed to soak up a lot of it so rather than high gloss it just has a shine to it). Here's 2 cards I made:

"The directions on the bottle say that it takes longer to dry. It's been 3 days and it hasn't crackled. Anyone know why?"

You probably saw in Friday's video, but it sounds like the metallic paint is thinner and needs to be globbed on thicker (and dry for about a day) to get the crackle that you're looking for.

In regards the mat shown earlier in the series, I was a bit confused too. I was mixing up the craft mat with the other one. I believe rather than the craft mat she was working on the grey side of the 8x10 Cut N Dry mat by Ranger that has white spongy foam on the other side.
SOLD HERE

It looks like it's currently sold out so if you're in a hurry to get it, I know I found one on Ebay for a similar price with low shipping.

Speaking of which, I finally bought the large Ranger craft mat and I'm IN LOVE!!! I can see myself using this for all my craft needs with it's non-stick surface. It was great for arranging my alpha stickers onto for a title. Just gotta remember not to cut through it with my x-acto like I almost did last night.
