Hello again, everyone!

Welcome to Part 3 of Week 4 of our class. The first project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Distress Crackle Paint from Ranger. Today's video talks about adding shine and using the Metallic Crackle Paint.

And, of course, we need prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick a winner of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger. Please post your project by Sunday, 7/12 at 11pmEDT.

The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects for crackle paint. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking Class, Week 4.

NOTE: If you don't have Distress Crackle Paint and are unsure it is for you, be sure to watch the videos. It is a fun product! If you don't have any (yet) to use, you can do other paint techniques for the challenge. I don't want anyone left out.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

great video - really like the look of the metallic crackle. (new I should have waited before I submitted my order this morning.) That's ok - I already added them into my next shopping cart.

Thank you, cat*z

Great video - my fave this week! Love the idea of slathering crackle paint on cardstock and using punches to cut them out - much easier than painting onto the diecuts!

Thanks for the great ideas, Jennifer!

Oh rats! I knew I should have bought the metallics yest while at my local store! Oh well, just have to make another trip over.lol..That is too cool to pass up...dedicating my weekend to get caught up on the classes but Im fighting a bug so blah!

Love the techniques!

So funny tho, i was complaining to my hubby that I couldn't get the crackle to stick to the letters with gloss on them, but you solved that one for me!

One question? When I paint it on cardstock, it tend to wrinkle the paper or curl and doesn't lay flat. Does that mean I m using too much?

Thanks!

Very cool! I'm off to crackle up my little Maya Road chipboard frames. I also like the way Distress Inks work with the Basic Grey patterned paper, which is lovely paper, but a bit "loud" sometimes. Distress Ink not only gives it a nice vintage look, but tones it down beautifully.

Speaking of chipboard, though, I have a question. Instead of vandalizing your BG chipboard, why not use Tim Holtz Grungeboard shapes & letters? They're made for just this sort of application.

('Cause you don't have enough stuff to deal with for this course already, right?)

Anyway, here's my one & only effort this week. I thought I had posted it to the Day 2 thread, but I can't find the sucker. (I'll have to troll through the various boards & try to find it, I guess.) Apologies if it's already up in the right place & I've just missed it or something.

Terrific samples and video with lots of great tips. Now I know why I could see through the Pewter Crackle Paint I used on my Christmas tree. Good thing I added a bit more. I did give in and use a heat tool on it in the end. Now I know I just need to leave it overnight. I liked the brushed steel look it gave.

Thank you.

hi!

yep, it causes paper to warp. i like to securely glue a few pieces together before painting to prevent this.

i do love love love grungeboard. love it! but i also love the shapes of the BG chipboard a lot.

Here is my attempt for part 3. I used the metalic crackel paint and it worked much better than my last attempt when it never did crackle!

Question: I did the 'paint the crackle paint on cardstock, let dry then punch out shape' - it seemed very hard to punch. I didn't put a very thick layer of paint on and my butterfly punch is brand new; is it usually hard to punch? It seems that if you had a very thick layer of dried paint that you wouldn't be able to get the paper into the punch to punch.

Am I missing something?

(After punching, it seemed my paint wanted to flake; is this where I need to coat with glossy or matte accents?)

TIA!!!!

Here is my card for Part 3. I used Brushed Pewter metallic crackle paint on the butterfly and Black Soot distress ink on the script stamp.

The metallic crackle paints look so cool. Unfortunately don't have any at the moment, so added some shine by mixing mica powder into varnish.

you shine

wow - great projects, everyone.

for punching through crackle paint... try two things: try a thinner layer of paint. also, try punching several times through foil, wax paper and cardstock to get your punch working well. that may help!

OMG! Fascinating! I've used the crackle paint before (Pewter and some of the plain, non metallic ones), but I love seeing all the things that are in the tutorial! This is sooooo cool! I was on vacation for the week, and now have to go back and see the videos that I missed...thank you again Jennifer McGuire!

Well, I made a few attempts but not as much as I would have like to. Unfortunately, we lost my husbands Aunt & Uncle in a motorcycle accident in TX. this week so it has been very very sad. I have to say that making the cards this week has been somewhat theraputic (SP?) in occupying my mind through this. Please send happy thoughts and prayers..Much appreciated everyone.

Here is what I came up with:

I miss you

Oh,I forgot to add that, yes, I had problems with the punching through the paint also. Before I saw Jen's post on sharpening the punches I just took a craft knife and cut the parts that actually didn't go through all the way. Also, the paper that crumpled after adding crackle paint, I just flattened out under a heavy book for a few hours and it was just fine after that.

I have so many little "crackeled" pieces of chipboard and cardstock around my house right now!

Luckily, I did get a chance to make a card about 30 minutes ago. Here it is: card

This is very late, as we have been on holidays the last week. School Holidays here in Australia.

Thought I would pop up my try anyway.
