Hey there!!

Welcome to Part 1 of Week 5 of our class. The first project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Alcohol Inks from Ranger. Today's video talks about the basics of creating backgrounds.

THIS PART HAS TWO VIDEOS - I couldn't fit it all in one video.

And, of course, we need prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick THREE winners of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger. Please post your project by Sunday, 7/19 at 11pmEDT.

The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects for alchohol inks. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking Class, Week 5.

NOTE: If you don't have Alcohol Inks and are unsure it is for you, be sure to watch the videos. You will love it. If you don't have any (yet) to use, you can do other glossy background techniques for the challenge, you can use other inks. I don't want anyone left out.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Jennifer, for another cool video! Lots of great tips and ideas - especially like creating a bunch of backgrounds to use for punches and die cuts.

Wow, lots of cool results from the alcohol inks! Another great video x2!!

I don't have any of the alcohol inks yet, but my friend does, who I will be seeing this week at our annual girls' trip! (I am super excited!)
So I will get to borrow hers and try these techniques!
I might miss Friday's video since I might be w/out internet, but I will get to see Wednesdays video and work from that one and these two!

Thanks so much Jennifer!

Loved the videos again!! I do not own any alcohol inks, and I don`t have an excuse to buy inks, blending solution, glossy paper and felt blending tools... Have bought too much Hero Arts and Ranger stuff recently!! I think I am out for this week

Excellent! I actually have all the toys for this project (for a change). Well, except for one - I want that background stamp with the grid & swirled corners. Any idea how long it's going to be before it's in stock at Two Peas?

Thanks again for another great video, Jennifer.

Anyway, here's my card for the backgrounds part of this week's lessons.

Terrific videos! I like the different effects you were able to get. I've always just pounced the ink on for the polished stone technique.

I'm often a day too late to post to a challenge. This will be the first time I was a day too early! Yesterday, I posted this card. I stamped and heat embossed on polished stone and used it for a frame. It's the first card.

Everybody, if you've never used these inks before, here's a big tip. Did you notice how Jennifer put the tip of the bottle directly on the felt? Be sure to do that. I let my bottle tip hover slightly above the felt. Boy that stuff flies.

Jennifer, I'm going to have to try out some of the different ways you used these. I also would like to get some of the lighter inks. I loved that salmon with copper--looked just like marble.

Thank you.

Here is my first attempt at using Ranger alcohol inks:

Get Well card with alcohol inks

The Nestabilities label and the butterfly were both done with the alcohol inks. It's not as fancy as a lot of the stuff here at Two Peas, but I liked the results, and it's prettier "in person" than it looks.

Jennifer I've a question and please forgiveness if you've already answered somewhere else , in the case that you glossy paper is finish when you need (I have the ranger glossy paper usually for other uses) this technique works with other glossy paper for example that we use to print photos?

sometimes I've to wait to get my international orders a few days and the "creativity" not usually have patience

I only have a couple of alcohol ink colours, and have found it difficult in the past to get the look I've wanted. I think your idea of going with different shades of the same colours might work better for me. I'll have to try that sometime.

Anyway, here is what I did with what I've got at the moment:

I can't say enough how inspiring these ideas with the alcohol inks are. I had used them before, but was always only shown the idea for creating the marbled look and I had never played with the metallics before! I loved trying new ways to use them and can't wait to try some more stuff with them. Thank you! Thank you!!! Here's my cards for the background techniques:

You are such a good teacher, Jennifer!!! I wanted to start playing with my alcohol inks before finishing the videos!!! Thanks so much for the wonderful tips on those magnificent backgrounds!

I started out by trying them on glassy photo papers since I don't have any glassy card stocks ... I think they don't work as well as the ones that Jennifer is using and the pearl mixative doesn't show up as well on plain papers as on the glassy paper... I'll head over to add that Ranger glassy paper in my cart...

Here is my card
