We have had an influx of new sellers here, some with as little as 5 or less posts and joining only days, maybe weeks ago.

Please be cautious with who you are dealing with as though I cannot make a sweeping statement about all new sellers, I can share this reminder to be cautious. I was lucky enough to have my claim with Paypal resolved from a new seller who just joined & who only had posts related to selling on here and see this person scammed yet another pea.

Go with your gut. If someone just joined & has just a few posts, be sure to utilize Paypal. If I hadn't, I would have lost $230.

And please be sure to list your good selling experiences on the good/bad sellers thread as that is a great way to communicate our selling experiences.

(I am noticing this with the SC demand, lots of new sellers coming here to post their items)

Would love if you could comment on your experience with me since I am a new seller & I don't have many posts (but I've been a lurker for quite awhile). Thanks!

I agree and would never encourage anyone to do anything as a gift. Paypal is there to protect us. We were all new here once though and I think great communications makes it worth it. I have sold to several people who only have a few ISO posts and had no issues.

I am glad that is thread has been started. You are right about this stuff, but its hard to check the good/bad sellers list because it is soooo long. Could we break it up somehow? I think it's important that newbies realize that this is not ebay and I for one, would like to keep it that way. I love the helpfulness and friendly way that I have seen in here for the most part. Karma can seem real, but what counts is integrity. As Horton said," I said what meant and I meant what I said. An elephant's faithful 100 percent."

I am new here as well but have sold on SCS. What do most sellers do with the paypal fee's if they are selling things fairly inexpensive. I honestly didn't realize that you weren't protected with gift paypal. Thank goodness I never had a problem. I had some SU stamps I was going to list very cheap. Thanks for any help in advance!

As a new seller on here - I would just like to say - I refuse to take payment as a gift (even if you don't get charged fees). And communication is always key.

I have noticed the big influx of new pea members also. Seems like many of the posts are by newbies.

Glad you were able to recover your money.

They incorporate them into the sale cost of the item.

And one more thing... post pictures of the SU stamps. Many SU and CTMH sellers seems to think everyone is familiar with the stamps and only post lists. You will be limiting your potential customer base if you do. Hardly anyone will go through the trouble of googling images if a list is all you provide.

I haven't really noticed any fees from PayPal. It's like 3% right?

@shanag - I think it's 30 cents per transaction PLUS 3% for PayPal fees.

My paypal fees seem to be around 80 cents for things between 10-15 dollars. I know the higher you sell for the higher the fees.

I am new and have inquired about buying items and have sent the money thru pp...This was done this am...I think we also need a good buyer list.(unless there is one and I can be directed to it).Someone who follows thru with their transactions when purchasing also..I looked for both sellers but didn't see them on the good/bad list..So I will wait to see what happens..I requested tracking numbers

I guess those fees are more than I thought. I don't want to start selling for more though. I love to get/sell good bargains. Cost of doing business I guess. Thanks for the info though.

A tracking number should be a must. Pay extra or make sure it's included in your selling price. It will save you a lot of frustration.

Hi!

Go with your gut too. I'm new here. I have bought MANY items from peas- -way too many!
I have also TRADED cricut cartridges with 2 other newbie peas with no problems at all! Since no paypal is used for a trade it was a risk, but thankfully worked out for all three of us!

Thanks Kathy & Linda!!!!

I guess I never thought about a paypal gift transaction not being protected! I've sent a payment as a gift....if I don't receive the item, I will be grateful it was not a very costly transaction. I'm too naive in some cases. I think everyone is as honest as I try to be!

That's me too! I will sometimes have people, on Craig's list, ask me If I would mail it to them. I have to tell them I don't take PP, yet. I usually ask for postal money order. Some say yes and some will say no thank you. I know that I am honest and will follow through, but the other person is too leery to that idea.

I get the apprehension about sending money as shift, but its the only way to avoid fees that I for one can't predict accurately. Does anyone?if you can pls teach me! Anyway, I always guarantee arrival personally if its a cheap package or by the post office with insurance. I dunno. I go both ways on this. Does anyone know how Paypal fees are assigned? It seems a bit random to me.

Btt'ing.

Re: Paypal fee's...I personally account for them in my end sale price. There is no way in h*ll I would pay as a gift unless it was regarding on of my swaps. The seller needs to absorb the loss (Paypal fee) or evaluate into sale price imo.

Here is a site that you can use to calculate paypal fees.

Hi, I am one of those newbies who has just started posting even though I have been a member for some time and have enjoyed all the inspiration two peas has to offer. I completely understand the points being made for the most part but the comment about this not being ebay was a little harsh , I think the title of this board is for sale or trade. while it is def a shame that a few bad apples are here taking advantage of people everyone here was new at one point. I have recently made a couple of trades and had a great experience. My goal here is not to offend anyone quite the opposite I have always found the scrapbooking community to be very welcoming and would say use caution but give the new people a chance.

Btt'ing to the top. Similar situations have yet again aroused. (arouse? perhaps wrong word, I'm tired ) Let's say new situations have presented themselves again.

And kudos to those that have just joined us. It's a wonderful forum to be able to have the ability to sell/buy/share all things scrapping. I know I am happily reading the GOOD SELLERS LIST as we have had many great transactions and happy peas. Again, I am hoping that my case remains few and far between.
