I follow Maggie Holmes twitter feed, I'm a huge fan of hers. I noticed during her promotion of her new line at CHA, she reported her phone missing. She didn't post any show pics from CHA for many days which led me to believe she never found her phone. On her twitter today, she confirms that her phone was stolen and if anyone could send pictures of her booth, she'd appreciate it.

Who would do such a thing? I was under the impression that CHA was a Craft and Hobby Show filled with mostly adults looking for products for their businesses, etc. It's sad to know there are criminals in the most unlikely of places.

Yeah, I know there are criminals everywhere, the whole thing makes me sick (and it wasn't even my phone that was stolen!) because Maggie is such a nice person.

That is so sad. What I really can't believe is when I hear of things stolen in a church. Really, people?

Its amazing what people do. In the past there have been products and albums stolen.

The last well known victim of theft at CHA that I heard about was Tim Holtz. I think that was several years ago now, but evidently, you always hear about at least one thing like this.

I've never really understood this. Criminals are EVERYWHERE.

Why is CHA an unlikely place for criminals to be? Crafters are just as likely as any other group to have their share of dishonest people as any other group. Someone saw an opportunity to grab a phone and they did. It's an unfortunate thing, for sure, but not at all unlikely. If you leave your phone unattended in public, even just for a second, there's a fair chance it'll be taken.

It's really too bad that she wasn't able to get any of her own photos of her booth. My computer was stolen several years ago and while losing the computer was bad, losing the photos I hadn't backed up yet was much worse.

Yes, but.... I tend to let my guard down at places where you have to pay to get in. At a mall or a store my stuff is really close. But I take my kids to an indoor playplace sometimes- it costs $10 to get in. Right or wrong, I'm less paranoid about my stuff there because I figure "What criminal is going to pay money to MAYBE steal something?"

I would think of CHA as similar. You have to join CHA to attend, which costs money, and you have to pay again to get onto the show floor, right? Steps most bad guys would never take to find stuff to steal when they could just walk into a Walmart or something.

But I guess there are people who no one would think of as a "bad guy" who take advantage in situations where they think no one is looking, which I find really sad. What's that saying? "Integrity is not how you act when others are looking, but how you act when no one is around."

My question is why she would assume her phone was stolen? As opposed to left behind, or knocked down, or misplaced, or accidentally picked up by someone else who thought it was theirs?

These might be dumb questions, because I know nothing about smart phones......

That's the first thing I thought of: her pictures.

I had no idea CHA was a breeding ground for theft!

Thieves come from all walks of life, from people like Bernie Madoff (who had billions, yet didn't stop stealing) to drug addicts, and every thing in between. They see an opportunity, and they act on it, whether it be in the office place, a place like Chuckie Cheese or CHA. I don't think because they paid to get in a place they're less likely to steal, maybe even the opposite--there's so much action going on, and so many people, it might be even easier.

And I think I remember it was Heidi Swapp's personal scrapbook that was stolen from CHA several years ago? Somebody wanted that book so bad, they stole her documented memories; how pathetic. It's doesn't even have value, monetary (like a phone) or otherwise, to anyone other than her yet somebody wanted it, so they took it.

I feel bad that her phone is missing. I wonder if she knows for a fact it was stolen, or maybe it was just misplaced. Either way, I feel bad she doesn't even have pictures of her own booth.

The scrapbooking world isn't anything special. I worked in a Scrapbooking store and had things stolen from me. We had personalised mini books with photos and journalling stolen. I had people at a charity crop steal products.
The LSS down the road had a laptop stollen by someone taking a class.
There are dodgy people everywhere. It sucks but it's life

With everything that you see in the news or read I don't know why we are becoming a disfunctional society. I don't know why people do these things and what they get out of it. I try to read a couple good things a day so that the bad doesn't bring me down.

It makes me mad that people would steal albums and personal memories. What value is it to them?!? I think I remember that teresa Collins had things stolen a few years ago that could never be replaced. So sad.

That's sad.

I remember several years ago at a CKU, when the Quikutz dies were big,
someone stole a woman's dies (she had about $600.00 worth). She was frantically looking everywhere for them. I felt very bad for her and realized that you have to pretty much keep your guard up everywhere.

Why would you leave your phone unattended no matter where you are! If you can't lay eyes and hands on it at all times, don't set it down! Criminals are opportunistic. Someone might not have got in intending to steal something, but if you make it easy for them then you get what you deserve.

I feel bad for her but it may not have been outright stolen. Perhaps she left it in the bathroom or some other booth by accident or dropped it in the parking lot and someone found it...yes, they should do the right thing and try to find the owner but they may not have directly stolen it from her...we don't know for sure.

I do hope she gets it back though. I thought my phone was taken once but luckily it turned up - it is kind of a panicky feeling when you realize it is gone.

I read this too and a few weeks ago that happened to Terese Collins in a target I think she was buying stuff and for a second she didn't look her bag and someone took her phone.

Very sad that those kind of things happen but we have to be more carefull because we don't know who is around us.

Wow, crime is everywhere.

My lss owner posted on her blog a few months ago about a certain person stealing. Apparently they knew who it was and they were posting it in the event she would stop on her own.

Phones aren't the only thing stolen at CHA. It's common for layouts and projects to go missing from booths too. Some people are just creeps
