Woooohooo...I LOVE it! I printed in 8x8 on Glossy Paper and will finish the LO with traditional supplies. I LOVE the results. Thank so much for your help! As soon as I finish it I'll get it up in the gallery

I actually have a wide format printer, but I print my digi layouts 8.5x8.5.

In theory, I will be sticking them onto a 12x12 piece of cardstock and adding them to my albums. In reality, they are neatly stacked in a pile, next to my paper layouts, because I stink at putting things in albums.

I know some people print their layouts at online places. I think others might get them printed at an office place like Kinkos - never tried that, myself.

So scrapbookpictures.com might be a place to print them? Hmm..didn't think about this...Also I didn't think about printing them 8 1/2x11 and mounting them on cardstock...that would be kinda cool anyhow...

Thanks for the ideas...

I had some printed at Costco this weekend- $3.00 for a 12x18 (I did 1-12x12 and 2- 6x6 layouts), but honestly I think I prefer to print at 8x8. 12x12 is just too big for me. If you do a search in the digi gallery you'll find lots of threads about printing and what others do too. Hope this helps a little!

I scrap 12x12, but I print 8x8 usually, because I am lazy, lazy, lazy and require the instant gratification of printing at home.

My hang up, will they look as nice as they do on my computer screen if I print them? To me, digital scrapping is SO much faster for me. But I'm having a hard time taking the plunge

I've been finding that even in just the few days I've been digi scrapping that I can whip out a pretty decent LO in 10-15 minutes. I take much longer with traditional but I think my style may be evolving to include both. I could never give up the touch and feel of papers, inks and embellies but I love what can be created with PS also.

I might give that 8x8 a try also...

And Tia...LOVE your stuff!

You know....to me it really depends on making the right choices in what you buy to begin with (which I guess is the same with paper scrapping but you get to see the product right away and up close). I try to buy from people who I've either bought from in the past who I already know produce high-quality images, detailed textures, non-jagged edges, no stray pixels, things like that. Many designers also offer 'close-ups' of their elements to show the quality and that helps a lot.

On the printing side- I mentioned above I had a few layouts printed at 12x12 this weekend and had only printed 8x8 previously. While it's too big for me, that's not because of the quality- I was literally smiling from ear to ear (with no one to appreciate my excitment! ) when I opened up the package to see them. I thought they looked really good and had no complaints about quality.

So.....I've rambled on....sorry!!! I hope that helps a little.

I have heard great things about scrapbook pictures. I personally use white house custom color for all of my printing. 12x12's are less than 4.00 with FedEx included.

So, is it normal to have them printed on photo paper? I had it in my mind they were printed on cardstock but I imagine they would stand the test of time better on photo paper.

I make mine 12x12 then resize them to 8x8 for printing out , I prefer the smaller size for my digi-prints because I think they look better and don't use up as much ink that way!
I print them on epson photo quality ink jet matte paper I started off doing them glossy but they were too shiny
I still paper scrap and they are all 12 x12

great question!
it basically boils down to your own personal preference & what works best for you!

for me:
*I create in 12x12 format.
*I love to get my 12x12 printed from scrapbook pictures (link is below on bottom banner). Love that it's so fast, & is delivered to my door step.
*I love to print at home in 8x8....less ink, reg. format printer & I LOVE to experiment with various papers. I normally do mine on Matte Photo paper, but have been loving the Premium, Velvet & Watercolor papers, too. Also, you can do some cool things printing off on ink jet transparency!

Find a place to sample papers & ink & then just experiment....

& browneyedgirl....you will LOVE seeing your creations printed out..
they are delicious!

have fun!

Costco! $2.99 for a 12x18 and the quality is great. They even have printer profiles that you can download from the web for super-duper color matching (that assumes that your monitor is calibrated as well). I hear rumors that some local Costcos are experimenting with 12x12 printouts, but not at my store. Oh yeah, they are done in an hour if you drop them off but I usually upload in the evening and pick up the next day.

I design mine 12x12 and print 8x8. That way if I ever want a bigger size I can. But I have found that I really like the 8x8 size much better. Easier to handle, fits on a shelf better.

HOLY COW

I have an HP Printer/Scanner/Copier (ink jet). I uploaded my files to Staples to get them, but apparently didn't do it right because they never made it to my local Staples store.

It was pure fate

Wanting the instant gratification, I grabbed some Kodak Photo Paper (100 sheets for $14) and decided to try it out at home.

OH ... MY ... GOODNESS

Rhonna, you were totally right - they are delicious! I just printed my "One Woman" layouts and they are brilliant, I can't get over how gorgeous they are.

So, it's totally, 100% official...I am a digi scrapper. I embrace the addiction

I can't believe that no one has mentioned www.sbtoshare.com yet They do great work & if you send them a file, they will send you samples of your layout so you can decide what paper you want them printed on. I had mine done on 12X12 cardstock & they look even better than those I printed on phoot paper at 8X8. And they only cost $1.25 a page! Even if I had a printer that oprinted 12X12, I couldn't do it that cheaply or that well. They have my business!

OK ya'all. I found the 25% off promo code for scrappingsimply.com prints.
It is DSP09 DSP09
That will get ya 12x12's for only $1.50, and 8x8's for $.75, until Jan 31st!
I haven't found better print quality anywhere else, and there is a flat $5 shipping fee for US & canada, which is good when you have LOTS to print....so lets get designing!

Why wouldn't you design at 8x8 to start with? That way, what you see on screen (if your resolution is set properly) will be very close to what prints out. For example, it seems like you'd just be guessing when you set your font size.

My vote is for sbtoshare.com too! I get my 12x12 LOs printed on matte cardstock for $2.00 each. Shipping is $6.00 per order. I just ordered 8 pages for $22.00 total. They always look good!

I am totally new. I have seen digital scrapbooking for years and admired it from a far...wishing that I could do it. And now I have decided to take the plunge. I have a couple of problems though...1st I'm still kind of afraid...call me a chicken. The other problem is that I am thinking that I have my aspiration set too high. I have a family reunion planned at my home in June, 2009. I have a hugh family on my mother's side and have worked on my genealogy with it for the last 5 years or so. I have lots of stuff gathered. Old family photos, family group sheets, copies of my grandmother's family bible, maps with mark ups of where my family lived and much more and most of it in picture files. A couple of years ago I put a book together with Ancestry.com and I totally loved it. I've had a cousin ask for a copy but I have been thinking that my book starts out about my mother and our family going back in our line and I think it would mean so much more to him if his started with his mom & his family. I had seen a website that explained about hand binding your own book so now that is where I am really wanting to start. I had wanted to try to do this and give it to him at our reunion although it is slipping up on me so fast now I am doubting that I can get it finished in time. Plus I have requested that my family bring all their old photos and documents so that I can get them scanned so there is a possibility that I will get some pictures of his mom and family that I might would rather include in this book. What I would like to do is create the book with PSE, print it from home (I'm thinking that I could do it 10x8 and it would make a nice book), bind it, make the cover the works all from hand. I just think it would be so much more personal and I could do it for anyone in my family that would like to have one. Below are examples of the first book I made on Ancestry and then the bottom two are examples of what I am currently working on.

I am still trying to work out the details of getting a two sided copy that would be like you would have in a book and I have presentation paper that I am going to use to print on.

Ahhhh! You guys..listen...
Don't print on cardstock!! NO! It is not archival at all & will fade. The colors are horrid.
I have tried everywhere, and finally found scrappingsimply.com
First of all
1. they print on 100+yr archival life photo paper
2. the lab tech adjusts each page (optimize, contrast, etc.)
3. It's FULL BLEED..no white borders (another great thing is they will try really hard to line up edges so nothing gets cut off. don't ever design an inked edge or anything small right to the edge)
4. they are 100% guaranteed or your money back
5. they ship the next day! $5
6. the best...ready...ONLY $1.99 a 12x12!!!

I have used them all year & will never go back to my old printer.
Good luck.

I don't have a printer and don't get mine printed individually. I use Shutterfly books. I do my LOs in 12x12 because it is easier for me to do the calculations for my designs in my head that way but I get the 8x8 storybook size. So much better than having a regular photo album as it is much more compact. I can get a whole years worth of los in the size of a children's story book.

Shannon, and those that print at 8x8--

If you make the layout at 12x12, when you print them off smaller, isn't the journaling hard to read? Does it get too small?
I'm wanting to try printing off a layout and see how it looks!!

Wow this is my first time here and lots of info. I did my first digi book in 8 x 8 and sent it to Winkflash..all heritage photos that I scanned and enlarged! I'm so tickled with the results and the price was very reasonable. By the time you buy an 8 x 8 book and then all the cardstock ect it ends up being much more economical..esp if you want more than one book!

This is a good little thread because I've never printed at a couple of places mentioned here. Off to check them out! I just do all my short-notice printing at Costco...not because I love them...they are just so convenient! And although I have a large format printer I hate using it too often (like for a whole slew of layouts) as it sucks up the ink.

Love the info here! Going to check out some of these prices!

I usually send mine out to Costco for processing. By the time I purchase all to do my own printing, I feel it is less expensive. Plus I don't have to find room to store it all. Just my take....

I currently create & print in 12x12. I have tried, scrapbookpictures (through 2Peas), Costco and Wal-Mart.

For me, the best one for price is Costco. But as far as quality, I have found the colour on a lot of layouts to be VERY off and not very pleased with the end result compared to what I see on my screen!

I would like to do an online one that then ships directly to my house, but since I live in Canada there aren't too many that ship for a cheap price and also offer a cheap price for printing. So for now I am stuck with Costco. Not every layout is off in colour, but more than I'd like, so that's where my battle is right now.

Have any others that have used Costco found the colours to be too dark compared to what they see on their screen? Is there anything I can do to correct this?

I print at Costco. Only place I can find in Canada that prints 12x12. I ordered from the US once but the savings did not warrant the wait.

I do have a printer that prints 13x17 - Epson 1400 - got it last year right after Christmas at Best Buy for $229. came full of ink and PSE6. Turned out to be a good deal.

Just recently I finally came across good paper 13x17. The package I purchased had a damaged corner - but I will be trimming it anyway so I choose to grab it for $15. less a package.

As I had just uploaded all my layouts to the US, I have not had a chance to print a 12x12 on the good paper yet.

I did a wedding album 8x8 and totally liked it and Costco prints 8x8 as well as 12x12.

Persnickety Prints Rocks! Seriously- they are a PRO photo lab (please don't use Costco people!)- they print on matte, glossy or metallic paper that is waterproof and archival.
12x12's are only $1.99 AND they ship all over the world - including Canada- for $5 flat.
I am so glad I found them- and can now spend more money on kits now that I am saving on prints!!!!

Another loyal and faithful Persnicketyprints.com user. Their prints are like no other I've used - really. The colors are bright and true and an 8x8 is a true 8x8 with nothing cut off to get it that way (a pet peeve with other labs I've tried). Their shipping rocks, they are FAST, and their customer service is awesome. The 8x8 prints are 99 cents. I found after a couple tries that 12x12 in digital is HUGE - as in the appearance of them is huge and 8x8s are just right, and the albums fit on my shelves much better than 12x12.

I swear, where to print is the most often-asked question on this forum! I print at cherishboud in a bound book. I like it SO much better than bulky scrapbooks, but that's just me. I have a whole blog post about it, but the TOU keeps me from giving you a link.
You can find it in my sigi, though--I outline several places to print and their reps. It might help you!

I *heart* persnickety prints as well!

the color is always true and there is barely any clipping of the edges! oh and super fast shipping! can't beat that.

I typically print 8x8, but have printed 12x12's as well, both come out perfecto!

def worth checking out.
