It is such a shame that people who share a common interest can't get together for a few hours and just play nice.

The 3 crops and one retreat I have been to recently have been wonderful, it just takes some time to find a good group!

I am especially sorry for the Peas who have been prejudiced against, how horrible that there are still blockheads in this world who think that way.

OK..have to admit that I have enjoyed the laughs of reading this thread and hoped to never be posting...but after a retreat this past weekend, here I am...I honestly thought I graduated from high school many years ago, but it turns out...not so much

My friend and I attended a weekend retreat. The retreat was much smaller than usual (and 1/2 the size) and we were seated in the "other" room from where we usually sit. Of course even though we have been attending for years we were the "newbie invaders" in this room and resented by a few of the "women" in the room. The "ring leader" of this one group was the most obnoxious person I have ever come across in a long time. The others in the group were "allowed" to talk to us when she wasn't there, but when she arrived in the room, we then became invisible again. If we spoke...she just talked over us like we were not even there. There was a cricut machine available for everyone's use and she treated it like it was her personal property and was annoyed that I updated it using my gypsy so that I and others in the room would be able to cut with our gypsies. The blasted the radio and had to be asked to turn it down. When there was finally a song that everyone liked and was singing along to...THEN they turned it down. on and on ad naseum.... I was teaching a layout class at the retreat and she was talking people out of taking my class.

The final straw for me was when I was asked to help some of the attendees with using the cricut. She literally vaulted over her chair to beat me to the people to help with her expertise. (wish there was a head shaking pea to insert here).

Seriously kinda last straw for me....I go away to have fun ... not to reattend high school!

I tell ya! If 2 peas would do crops and the my favorite peas go. I would fly my A@@ to Madison since my mommy lives there. I don't care if we end up hating each other!! I just think good or bad we would never forget and will be talking about it here for EVER.

Oh, wow, ihavetoomuchstuff, I am totally blown away by your nightmare experience. I really hope you will let the organizers know what happened, in all the gory detail. That woman's behavior was inexcusable!

This thread is way too long to read all the stories but I read some.
I went to a 2 peas crop at an LSS. Going to group functions is out of my comfort zone but I went and had a nice time. I just hope no one thought I was annoying. I don't like group stuff - I always feel out of place.

I went to Archivers for NSD and got there about 10:30 for their 12 hour crop. I was at a table with one other woman who talked....non-stop. There was a woman at the next table that I thought she was acquainted with and so I thought she was talking to her, but then motormouth was looking over at me (head down scrapping) as well. I don't mind having casual conversation at crops and have enjoyed some of them, but I certainly don't expect anyone to keep me company.

So she starts talking about how the guy she has power of attorney for who isn't in his house right now can't get insurance. She's older so I figure the guy is in a nursing home, but no, she goes on to say he's in jail in NY state.

Then she starts mumbling about the stuff she is making. She's making mini books and cutting everything by hand and having a running dialog with herself the entire time. She said to me, "Oh, don't look so serious!" and I replied, "Just trying to get some stuff done."

At the four hour mark, I text my husband and he says, "Put on your earbuds." I never wear them at crops because I can totally block out conversations between other tables, but this woman keeps saying things that beggar a reply. So when she gets up to go shop, I put on the earbuds. The whole room seems to relax. This keeps her at bay for about 20 minutes. Then she's back muttering again and then talking about her husband's Parkinson's and Bell's and how their house is so torn up. Then back to more about the books.

By the 8 hour mark I am out of battery on the iPhone. I left at 8:00 with most of my stuff done. As I was checking out, the clerk asked if I had the coupon and I said, "No, I didn't get one." So she gave me the percentage off anyway and then asks, "I suppose (motormouth) didn't get one, either?" I said, "I don't know. I don't know her." Clerk said, "I thought you guys were best buddies." "I don't know her from anywhere. She's just been talking non-stop since I got here!" The clerk was horrified, but there was nothing she could have done anyway. There was no place else to sit that wouldn't've crowded someone out and she subjected our whole room to the mutterings.

I know, I know, she was probably just lonely, but 9 1/2 hours? My head still hurts.

Well it only took me about 2 weeks but I finally made it through this entire post. I am leaving for a 3 day crop tomorrow and this will only be my 2nd ever crop to attend. The last one I attended about 3 years ago and I was okay for my first. I have been looking forward to this one for several months now so I am excited and hopefully I will not have any stories to add once it is all over.

I don't get to many crops, but a aunt (who is only 5 years older than me) was having a get together crop with a bunch of ladies from a message board that she goes to. She flew in with my cousin and I drove up and got them from the airport and we had a weekend crop. It was fun being with my them and we got to have a few nice meals and got some serious scrapping done. The only issue is, I didn't really know anyone else in the group, but they were all very nice. They started playing a game where you have to guess secrets about each other. They all "know" each other from online, so they all were having a great time. The "secrets" were pretty tame... nothing too shocking. Then they read one that says:
"My husband is a nurse and he shaves my hooha."

I knew right away... it was my aunt. Everyone was sitting there like They couldn't believe someone would put that in the guessing game. I was totally mortified. I was embarrassed for myself and for her, but I don't think she got just how inappropriate it was. She then says: "I thought we were supposed to put racy stuff in the guessing game." Ugh.

Craftymomto3 I hope you have a great time. Go with an open mind. SydVicious that's pretty racy, but I did laugh ( I have two nurses in my family, so I heard many stories like that). Its great to see this post continuing with new stuff. I can't believe how many times over the years I've added to it as well.

Well the crop went great! No nightmare stories at all to share. I am so happy about that. I had a wonderful time and can't wait until January when they have that same crop again. I am going to another one this weekend and I hope it is just as good but not sure. It is under new management this year so we will see!

Thanks for sharing the stories! Totally making me crack up!

Mine isn't as bad as others. It was more like a situation I wasn't expecting. I attended an all day crop at a resort with my friend. When we got there the crop was great. The memorable part of the crop was a group of women who were there celebrating and having a bachelorette party. They came with coolers of beer and the kicker was when they pulled out an "adult" themed cake.

I had always thought of this particular hobby/industry as pretty G rated but realized that's not always the case.

This is the best laugh I have had for ages - the bridge players won for me, we may be rude, we may have kids, we may say inappropriate things but eh if someone died at our retreat we would at least take a photo of her and scrap it, not just leave her there dead, play another hand until the paramedics showed up!!!. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I'm not offended at all. My family is pretty crazy, so someone saying something totally inappropriate at a family get together isn't surprising. I was just the setting. My mom and I still laugh about it.

I've had this thread opened in a separate tab for four days now. Not done reading though and I have to shut down my laptop because I'm taking it out of town. So I'm bumping it so I can find it easily when I get to Pittsburgh. Although, imagine my surprise when I found a reply from me from way back when I first joined Two Peas. rofl. Anyway, I'll carry on with reading it when I get online this evening.

My nightmare...I was RECOGNIZED from this thread at a retreat...by the crop organizer! As I told her, I love their retreats and wasn't even referring to them, which she knew, but still...I was trying to remember all the bad stuff I wrote about other retreats! LOL

Can I enter the crop-witness protection program?

Probably the closest I can come to "nightmare" would be the crop I went to last April. A good friend is a CM consultant, but she's so totally cool with non-CMers. Even though it is in town my friend and I get a room (friend lives 30miles away) and it's nice to know you can go sleep, or relax or whatever and not have to drive home.

She has crops in fall and spring and friend and I have been to four now. There's a woman that comes that whistles a LOT. CM hostess has asked her not to and moves her around the room. This person often forgets...he tablemate listens to her iPod the whole time.

The worst though, was last April. There was a massage person there and she set up at a table close to me. Totally fine except this one lady kept asking me when she'd be back, how much was it, what did she do, etc. Lady, I am cropping, you need to ask masseuse when she gets back. Then she wanders all over commenting on everyone's stuff. Then she went over to a person and started stroking their hair!

There was also a garage sale. She picked up a few items...nothing wrongs with that, right? Except she would take stuff out of people's crop bags or off their tables! I found out later from another friend and the CM hostess that this lady has a history of mental problems. While I feel bad for her, she really caused a lot of issues and there were complaints. CM hostess has said she won't have her back. This woman has been through a great deal and from what I was told of her history she should never be left alone and seriously, should not be near sharp objects. She's hurt herself and family members in the past.

I LOVE this thread! So glad it was brought back so this newbie could enjoy it & catch up. I have screwed up my courage to post....

I inadvertently injured someone who is a local scrapping "name", who at the time was attending a class in a store. Part of the blame rests with the store owner who had set up for the class by moving most of the racks, including the wheeled, revolving ones, back to make space for the Crop Table. I use the word "space" here with extreme irony as it was VERY tight indeed. I had not booked for the class and was shopping as normal, until I revolved a rack to see what I wanted & one of those long "pins" you hang product on connected with a mini-album on a display shelf... the mini-album fell off and bopped the scrapper on her bonce.

I am taking a class with that "name" on the 24th November....I am a complete nobody, but bet she remembers me!

I might be back to post a story from the other side, a nightmare 3 days away where scrap-bullies took over... that will be a long one!

One weekend I went to a scrapbook event here on Long Island. I stayed at the hotel overnight and thought it would be great to go to the crop. The ballroom where they held the crop wasn't crowded but there were plenty of empty tables. I had preplanned my layouts and was just putting them together going at a pretty good pace and happy to be able to do it uninterrupted like at home. Well, here comes a mother and daughter and they decide to sit at my table and unload ALL their crap and took up the majority of the table, causing me to put stuff away cause they were invading y personal scrap space. Mind you there were EMPTY tables. Then they start asking me questions about the pages I was doing, who the people in the pictures were and so on. I had gone to CKU the month before so I had pictures of me with Becky Higgins, Stacy Julian and others. When I said that one of the people in the pictures was Lisa Bearnson they said "Who?". When I explained who she was they wanted to know where they could pick up that magazine. They were asking about what I was doing on my pages, what was this and that? After about a 1/2 hour of this nonsense and them just talking to each other and not doing anything with the crap they unpacked, I packed it up and finished my pages in my room. The only good thing was I had won 2nd place for a Hawaiian girl I made with the supplies they had provided by the sponsors. Even during that they were annoying. Haven't gone to a crop since then, even at CKU.

These stories make me crave another crop! While I don't like being crowded or finding hair in the food, I like scrapping with others! Someone else's drama- it's as good as people watching at the state fair! I can scrap alone anytime. I go to a crop for the fun, new ideas, and escape from laundry/ dishes/ cleaning/ kids/ hubby... Isn't that the point?

While I was shopping at the LLS there was a early crop going on. My grandson (10yr but more like 7 or 8) was with me and he was bored(I was hurrying as best I could but they had NEW stuff!) He starts slowly twirling and knocks over a tall rotating display-it missed a woman by inches. Oh the screams and flailing! My poor DGS ran to the back room and hid where he cried and freaked out. He was embarrassed and so apologetic. He kept bursting into tears the whole way home. Poor guy!

Paisley, I think your story is on page 2 - you know, the crop that was ruined because of someone's out of control kid

Not really, just kidding.

Oh I thought this thread was lost! It's so good to see that its still here. I've read them all, yet go back occasionally, when I need a good laugh. I don't go to crops, so I really have nothing to contribute. But I love the stories! Keep 'em coming, girls!

I have never been to a crop, mainly because I'm one of those weirdos who misses my munchkin and hubby too much to go for more than a few hours to take a class (or teach) at my LSS. BUT am I sick for wanting to after reading this thread??

I mostly haven't wanted to go because it can take me a week or more to finish a layout between housework and chasing an 18 month old while be pregnant. I did get one page done in two days this week though! Titled and journaled and everything!

I have experienced some odd behaviors while attending classes though. Some of them from a person I attended with. I'm the type of person that I actual enjoy having a conversation with others who have different beliefs and view points other than my own. Never know what you might learn type of thing. BUT said person I brought with me...nope. I can remember people discussing schooling with the class teacher and how she lives in a certain neighborhood just so kidos could go to a specific school. This led to a discussion on home schooling and how one woman thought it was a bad idea due to the social aspect and all that...person with me instantly jumped in with "No. No. That's not true...my opinion is the right one, yours is wrong..." that type of thing. I didn't say a word. I finished my project in record time and told her to get her sh*t packed as I was leaving and her ride.

I've also experienced people touching my project(s) without asking. Not cool. Just because I am farther along than you doesn't mean you can take my page and use it as your sample 'cause you're too lazy to get up and go look at the class sample like I've been doing for an hour!

I'm very curious about going to a crop and considering a 6pm-12 crop at my LSS. But I am not sure I'd be able to crank anything out! I guess I could spend a week prior to crop typing and printing journaling and cutting any shapes I know I would use and printing photos and all that...but I worry about sitting there and not feeling creative.

I remembered another story that qualifies for this thread. It's awkward and a complete downer.

It happened at the same big convention crop as the one I posted about early in the thread, with the clique of mean girl croppers, just a couple of years later. The friend I had started going to crops with at the time had something come up and couldn't make it, but I decided to go alone since I had not only prepaid, but also had done a lot of prep-work and made up several little "kits" of layouts to complete and was counting on being able to use the tool table at the crop.

So I got there and it was nowhere near sold out like the first year I went, which was great since there was a lot of free table space, and I didn't have to try and find a spot among groups of people. The auditorium was set up with very long rows of tables with a lot of space between them, and the tool tables, vendor tables, crop sponsor tables, and refreshment tables all together at the front of the room. I decided to take a seat at the front of the row nearest the tool table so I'd be right there and could just hop up when nobody else was using the die cutters and other tools. The next closest person was a table and a half down the row, so I had all the room I could possibly need and was looking forward to getting some serious work done.

About an hour into the crop, a woman comes in, is standing at the front of the auditorium, looking around at the crowd. I thought maybe she was looking for somebody, but no, she comes and sits directly across from me. I don't know her, never met her, have NO idea why she wants to sit with me when maybe a third of all the tables are empty. But, sit with me she did, and I soon figured out why.

She picked me because I was close to her size and she wanted another fat chick to talk to who could relate to all her weight angst and diet struggles, and also to unload to about her fertility struggles.

I can't relate to any of it. I gave up dieting and self-loathing for slow and steady positive lifestyle changes ages ago, and neither have nor want any kids of my own. I try and give her some supportive ideas, but it's clear she is not interested, she just wants to wallow in her misery. Within an hour I have realized that this woman needs serious therapy.

She is such an aboslute downer! I spend as much time as possible with my head down, intently working on layouts, or lingering at the tool table. I come back with a big cup of of coke and she starts eyeing it like it's the nectar of the gods themselves. It's not on her current lowcarb diet I soon learn, but refuse to feel a single shred of guilt for enjoying it in front of her because it's a crop, which is like a party, so junk food is on my menu for the evening. They bring in fresh popped popcorn, and I swear her eye started to twitch over the smell of it. I passed on the popcorn, but they also brought out other salty snacks including a big bowl of chex mix (which I can eat from a cup and not get fingerprints on my work) and decided that my tablemate could either deal with it or move because I wanted some to go with my soda.

To distract herself from my junk food, she starts to pay attention to her work, and thank goodness because I was starting to reach the end of my rope. I didn't want to move because honestly the woman didn't seem like she could handle any kind of rejection. And I didn't want to give up my seat by the tools and hassle with physically moving it all because I had spread out quite a bit.

All of the layouts she is working on involve babies, just not hers. Neices and nephews, children of friends. It's sad. Really, really sad. But kind of creepy too. I ask what other kinds of layouts she does, but that's it. She has NO life of her own to scrap, no shared events with her husband. Only babies she wishes were her own. And she is mooning over the photos and absolutely wallowing in it. I want to talk to her about that therapy she so desperately needs, but it's not my place, so I just concentrate on my own work.

One of the last layouts I work on is of photos I took at a historical cemetery in Galveston. I happened to be there one spring day when the grounds were literally exploding in a carpet of tiny yellow flowers. The contrast between the green leaves and yellow flowers against the grey and white marble crumbling tombstones and crypts was striking. And the juxtaposition between new growth and decay made for very interesting photographs. I had found papers that worked well with the photos, and wanted to put them all together in a layout. She asks what I'm working on and I explain to her the trip to Galveston, seeing the flowers at the cemetery, noticing how striking the contrasts were, and stopping to take photos. She wrinkles up her nose and says "that's depressing, why would you want to scrap a cemetery?" OMG, lady. YOU are depressing! I mean, really? I'm done with her and done with the evening, and finish up my work as quickly as possible.

While I'm packing up, I decide to go through my goody bag and pick out anything I don't want because there's a box for donations to a scrapbook ministry at the front of the room. There are some baby items in the bag, and the woman asks if she can have them. Yes, by all means take them and good luck!

After that experience, if I went to a crop alone, I took my Mp3 player and plenty to work on so I could hide behind it if my tablemate put off a bad vibe.
