Tracyarts, You are a better woman than me because I would have had to say something to her. I'm glad you hung in there as long as you did. Some people always have to bring others down.

went to a beach house crop with some friends (we have a group that scraps together somewhere at least once a year) This was a friend of a friend that came to scrap with us. We were stuck looking at her album for her HOME BIRTH. All I could say was, hey nice use of a printed border or I like that sticker you put there. This album was the full monty if you know what I mean....... I think the final picture in the album was her and her other 2 kids sitting in the kiddy pool in the afterbirth holding the new baby.
Several of the girls (friends of friends) got into a huge fight and ended up leaving early. It was sooo uncomfortable for the rest of us regulars that scrap together....
I have a few stories of bad crops, but this is the best one.
Actually our little group is cropping for 3 days starting on Friday... can't wit |

Teri, please share your other stories too! I've never been to a crop, so I need to live vicariously through other people's stories (kind of like the chick in Tracyarts' post at the top of this page!).

I don't have a crop nightmare story. Years ago I attended a crop hosted by a CMC. She was awesome! Homecooked meals, delicious desserts. door prizes etc. Other crops at church halls and at peoples houses, all wonderful!
My nightmare is working at a LSS. For years I had daydreamed of having my own store. So next best thing? Work at a store, right? Wrong!!! I am a people person and love to help others. But customer service was apparently annnoying to the owner. I was yelled at for letting a customer know that we had her favorite brand just in. I sold 3 Cricuts the first day we had them in the store, but she didn't give me the employee discount to buy one myself. She had an order that was paid for and she wouldn't ship it to the customer because she didn't want to drive to the FedEx store. When I offered to deliver it since the customer was coincidentally from my same small town, again treated badly. But the worst, very worst is when she tried to have one, all, any of her employees arrested for stealing all her Quikutz!!!! I can't prove it but I am convinced she did it for the insurance money. Here are the facts: She spent an entire weekend crop just before they were "stolen" cataloging every single Quikutz she had. She had someone calling her because she was in serious debt to them. I know because I unknowingly answered the forbidden number once. She was hyhper-anal retentive but when she saw that they were missing, she calmly asked me and another girl working that day, "Have you seen my Quikutz?". It was the calmest I had ever seen her. All 4 of her employees (myself included) literally had to go to the police station to be questioned!!!
Well her store is closed now. You reap what you sow! |

That's just awful! I've worked for some difficult sb/stamp store owners too. In fact, I was "let go" from the last one because I wouldn't take the blame (or share it) for something 2 other people forgot to do. But I've never been questioned by the police. Terrible! But like you said, what goes around comes around. Now I have the best job I've ever had (not craft related). |

So some of the stories in this thread make me feel better about mine that I'm about to share. I was turned onto this thread when I shared my story on the YS thread the other day. This is what happened:
I had one hell of an adventure today. I was going to go scrapbooking up in Queens at the Michaels up there which is about an hour transportation ride away for me. They have "Scrap-In" days the first Saturday of the month. So I called this morning to double check, packed up and made the trek up there which consisted of dragging my hand truck full of heavy scrapbook bags through 3 train transfers, which means lots and lots of stairs! Well once I finally made it to the store I come to find out that they had to cancel last minute and failed to mention that on the phone this morning. Also they said that if I still really wanted to scrapbook I could go to the other store, which is only 20 minutes away...driving. Well being carless now that would mean another train ride plus a bus transfer to get to that other Michael's totaling of over an hour journey. Again, with my heavy bags full of paper. The class ended at 9pm and I would have made it there by 6pm from the store I was already at. I decided to give up on this one for this month and try again next month and went to seek out a simple pleasure to calm myself down before I hopped on the train again for my trek back home (again, 3 trains).
Starbucks is in the same center as Michael's which is rare in Queens/Brooklyn. They are everywhere in the city, but its impossible to find one on our island. Starbucks it was then for my simple pleasure to gather my thoughts and prepare to trek back.
Now back at the top of the first subway station entrance stairs, in 20 degree weather, I suck it up and make the trek down the stairs into the subway...4 stairs from the bottom and the wheels break off my cart. Oh this is not happening to me. Ok again deep breath and haul that stupid thing back up the stairs back outside to the freezing air. I was going to call a cab but then realized, it would have been like a $50 cab ride at that time of night and from how far I was from my house. Now I'm sitting on a crate outside a closed market looking at my "trusty" broken cart planning my journey home. I decide to just ditch the cart and pick up the bags to carry them the distance home. The hardest part, besides climbing the stairs with 5 bags on my shoulders/back, was walking from my train stop to my house. The only .3 mile walk seemed to be 10 miles long with my luggage and the temperature not helping at all and of course with my luck, it begins to snow.
It took everything I had not to throw those bags down the stairs into the basement where I live. Once I unpacked I immediately started making broccoli cheddar soup for dinner, to warm up for one and for two to get my mind into a better place doing something I love to do.

I have another story to add to this epic thread... a few friends and I went to a weekend crop this past weekend. We were all very excited at the prospect of 3 whole days of uninterrupted cropping. The weather forecast called for snow on Friday and Saturday, but we assumed that since we were arriving on Thursday and staying until Sunday, we'd be blissfully unaware of the outside conditions. Uh, no.
On Friday night, the power, heat and hot water went out. The ballroom that held the crop quickly became a cooler since the outside doors automatically opened for "emergency purposes." Someone finally figured out how to close them, but when I tell you my fingers turned blue from the cold, I'm not exaggerating -- they literally did. The hotel's "emergency preparations" included (and were limited to) handing out one flashlight per room. Um, yeah thanks.
Someone discovered a few small conference rooms in another part of the hotel that had light and heat. We made multiple trips with our supplies up a couple of flights of stairs and squeezed many (not all) of the attendees into the cramped spaces. There was one lone outlet which had power and it quickly became a tangled mess of wires as multiple power strips were plugged in and piggybacked to provide power to charge cell phones.
The hotel generator only provided emergency power, so the next morning we had to line up at the front desk and wait while the staff brewed coffee--one cup at a time--from one of the little coffee makers from the rooms. Dinner on Saturday night was by candlelight -- not very romantic when the vestibule it was served in was chilly and so dark that you couldn't even make out what kind of cold sandwich it was that you were grabbing.
The power finally came back on late Saturday night as I was heading to bed. It was a relief that the heat returned overnight and we were able to take a hot shower Sunday morning. The crop organizer was beside herself over the situation. The hotel had made promises that weren't (or couldn't be)kept. It still remains to be seen if we will be refunded anything from the event.
Still, we tried to make the best of the situation. I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I had hoped to, but now at least, I've got this entertaining story to share. I only hope that my new Pea friend will continue speaking to me after this. You see, this was her first weekend crop ever!! What an experience.

Oh no! How awful! Losing power always stinks, but I never even considered what it would be like to lose power away from home....and at what should have been a fun weekend.
I'm sorry your weekend didn't turn out the way you had planned. |

I went to a weekend crop last weekend with my mom and sisters. This crop has been so much fun the last few times we went. Well, I caught a horrible cold the day before we left, so it was not nearly as fun. I pretty much just wanted to sleep, couldn't think and (TMI) keep wetting my pants everytime I sneezed or coughed (thanks kids!). To top it off, I could hardly sleep at night, even though I was exhausted. Then on the way home, the heat wasn't working in our vehicle and then we had a tire issue about an hour from home and had to have someone come and get us. Fun, fun, lol.

This isn't a crop nightmare, but a SU class I taught at a coworker's house. She allowed her 8 year old daughter to sit at the table with her guests. The daughter was sitting next to me, of course, and passed gas all night. Silent but deadly. I was so afraid that people thought it was me.

I have been at a multiple day crop and I had a blast. Occasionally I would walk around and see what other people were doing. There was so much difference in style and use of materials that I could hardly believe it.
One lady used some extra tables that were empty because we would only use them during the meals. She had her pages spread out and was adding photo's to it in a way that I can only describe as 'slapping' photo's onto them. Just randomly over the page.
I guess it was not really a surprise that she won the prize for 'most pages done' in the weekend. I think it was close to 100 pages. I just had to laugh....and remember the crops that I have attended in the past. Coming home with just one double page scrapped. But man, did I have fun! |

I can't remember if I have posted on here or not.. I have done countless crops since the beginning of time and then started hosting them for years and now we have a house we go to where they cook us meals, no cleaning..it's awesome.. In all those years there hasn't been a true nightmare but lots of stories...
** One year one of the ladies fell down a couple of stairs, we had to drive her car home and turned out that she badly sprained her ankle
** Another year we tried a new place where the scrapping room was separate from the house... it was over the detached garage, which was a nice room, but to get our supplies up the stairs there was a 'elevator' thing set up (kinda like those handicap things on the stairs, except this had a platform for our bags, instead of a seat)... we get there and it is broken. We can't get a hold of the owners so we carried up tons and tons of bags... finally got a hold of the owners and told us "oh that is a quick fix" so it worked for our departure.. WELL we load up the bags and 1/2 way down the 'tram' it hits a bump and my paper goes flying right into the snow... We are all running around to save my paper... I get home finally and spent the evening ironing paper!! probably 100 sheets of it... all purple!! LOL
**One lady we scrap with and we love her but she is so funny...she has to pick just the right spot for all her electronics.. so we always let her pick her seat so we don't have to hear her complain all weekend.. usually right in the back corner is her spot... lol...otherwise she is okay... "bless her heart"...
** A couple of years ago it snowed pretty hard and one gal got stuck in the snow... it was awful trying to get her out. And in another storm, a house we rented the driveway was so steep one lady couldn't get her van up the driveway..so that was a heck of a time getting her up the hill.. we almost had to unload her at the bottom.. finally she managed to get it almost to the top. (granted she was so weighed down.. we realized she brought these HUGE HEAVY six foot tables plus three people's scrap stuff) She wanted to be sure she had enough table space I guess.. LOL
Other than that we have a great core group of ladies and it is always fun... |

So after reading all of that (yes, i just spent my Saturday reading ALL of that) I can't tell if it is worse to talk to your neighbors or to ignore your neighbors. I have done both, so hopefully I read my neighbor's reaction correctly and chose the right approach at the right time. I would hate to be the subject of someone's crop story.
