I saw this mentioned on a previous post. Has anyone bought and used this? Know anything about it? Reviews or opinions?

If it really works, it would be great. Does anyone know anything about this? Today is the first time I've even heard about it.

I just got it and love what it CAN do. I am having a little trouble cutting with it as it stopped in the middle of my test..i uploaded all the updates on CDS and the firmware on both of my machines..I also emailed support to find out what the problem could be. People of both machines and have NO problems what so ever. Go to SCALS website, to the forums and you can learn all about it....The things you can cut are amazing..all dingbats, your fonts on your PC, downloaded dingbats etc etc..It is well worth it..

I just purchased it as well. I'm the skeptical type, but I must say it can do exactly what I expected!

When you update your Cricut, make sure you don't use the update at the Cricut website. For some reason this didn't work correctly for me. The update I did at www.hallmarkscrapbook.com worked perfectly.

I gave in and ordered it Wednesday and I'm amazed! It works wonderfully!! I can cut out all of my True Type fonts (and 99% of my fonts are True Type) and I'm having a ball downloading dingbats. I can weld my letters together, cut out perfect mats, and so much more. I can 'place' my cuts exactly where I want to place them and not waste any paper by using lots of scraps. The learning curve on this thing is wonderful. It's not hard to work with at all.

If you search, there are some threads at the Cricut site about this program. I don't think Provo Craft is too happy about it but they should have done this themselves a long time ago. I don't know that I'll ever completely stop buying the shape cartridges but I feel sure that I'll never buy another font cartridge. No wonder Cricut doesn't want people to buy this!

kkrewtea~~LOL! This program has made me want an expression, too, and I never wanted one before. However, since I can place my cuts exactly where I want them now, I'd like to be able to cut out on my whole sheet and use the negative space. I'll have to watch for a good sale on the expression.

tribefan43~~sometimes the cutting will hesitate for a few seconds somewhat in the middle of your cuts. Are you giving it long enough to start again? I think it does take a little bit longer for the machine to cut but not a whole lot longer and it's well worth the extra time.

Nantini~~on one of the Sure Cuts a Lot threads on the Cricut board, someone wrote that Cricut had put a "bug" in their update to prevent people from using the SCL program. You're right--only update using the free hallmark design studio trial. Someone else wrote, however, that if you have a problem after updating that you can email Todd (the guy who designed the program) and he'll quickly help you get things going again.

I love this program!!!! My only fault with it is you have to download it and I'd prefer to have it on a cd for backup. I don't ever want to lose it!

Tried it on my Expression this afternoon. Upgrading the Cricut firmware was very easy and the SCAL software worked absolutely GREAT! There is a bit of lag in the communication between the Cricut and the computer, but nothing that is to be concerned about. I will be buying the software for both our Windows and Mac machines.

If anyone in business development at Provo Craft had a brain, they would buy this software from whoever wrote it and offer the person an ongoing development and support package. Provo Craft has set on their hind legs too long for software like this and could blow both the Silhouette and Xyron out of the market if software like this was included or could be purchased after-market for the machine.

If I remember correctly, Todd said you could download/burn a cd for your other machine. I hope that's so, I tend to crash a lot!

I too think PC isn't happy about people purchasing SCAL! I remember the time when dealers weren't happy with PC and their fiasco when they sold to Walmart. Karma I tell ya!

I was at a CROP this weekend and a lady had it running so I was able to watch how it worked etc. I am definetly investing in it because I will never have to buy an alpha cartridge again!

Isew4work, Sure Cuts a Lot is a computer program that allows you to cut out all of your True Type fonts. (At least 95% of the fonts on your computer are True Type.) Instead of having to have a different cartridge for each font, you can use the ones you already have on your computer. You can also cut shapes, also using the ones that are True Type fonts. There are thousands of different fonts and shapes (dingbats) that you can download from free sites on the internet. The program will weld your letters together, allow you to make mats (shadows), etc. Your workspace is set up to look like the same size cutting board you're using so you can place your cuts exactly where you want them. It's very easy to work with. Fantastic program!!

It costs $69.95 and you can download it at http://www.craftedge.com/products/

There's a message board set up at http://forums.surecutsalot.com/index.php?sid=1a06da834fbc1a1ea3d843b605712ecb
that will probably answer all of your questions.

Before you download the program, you do need to update your Cricut to a newer version. If you have Design Studio, it's already updated. If you don't have it, go to http://www.hallmarkscrapbook.com/ to download a free trial. You can update your Cricut using that.

This program truly does open up loads of new possibilities with your Cricut. I love it!

I have a question to all you ladies who have gotten SCAL. When I purchase and download do I need to have the cricut hooked up to my computer at the same time? I am ready to purchase it but I wanted to know if I could just download it onto my computer and hook up cricut later?
Thanks
Kimz

I don't see any reason why you would have to have the Cricut connected when you download. I don't remember if I did or not, but until you're ready to cut something out, I don't think it would really matter.

Kimz,

I bought the software, downloaded it and played around with it before my on-order Cricut even arrived. You don't need the Cricut hooked up until you are ready to send the cut command.

I bought my cricut knowing someone would come out with this. I had been waiting for this. It is great! Works just like I thought it would. It takes a while to download all the things needed, but well worth it. The cost is so little. It was just slightly more than I would pay for a cartridge. If you are on the fence.... GO FOR IT !!!!

*******QUESTION ABOUT SURE CUTS A LOT AND MAC USERS******** I just bought a cricut expression. I am a graphic designer running my own business and must be able to cut out anything I create on the computer. I thought Sure Cuts A Lot was a perfect solution for me. I tried downloading the trial version just to make sure that it was what I needed, but every time I use it my MAC CRASHES! Scary, scary.... I don't want to use it again in fear of ruining my computer, which is the key to my business. I am wondering, has anyone other mac users experienced this problem? Also, could it be that this is only an issue with the trial version? If I buy the real software, will the problem go away? I don't know what to do - help!

Gadco...I'm getting a Cricut E for Christmas so I was investigating SCAL and came across this video on Youtube. She discusses getting it to work on a MAC about 3 min. into it.

I am a SCAL user but I don't have a MAC. I know many of the SCAL users at CraftEdge forum do have MAC's and they can help you. They are really sweet and helpful.

I don't own it and I don't own a cricut. I do own other electronic cutters. From what I have read on numerous message boards, you might want to check out Make the Cut and Fairy Cuts. The posts I have read indicate both of these have more features than the SCAL and are more user friendly. The programmer for Make the Cut offers online seminars where he and a lady demonstrate the features and allow you to ask questions. I know less about Fairy Cuts but I have read rave reviews of it. Check them out before making your final decision. They also have trial versions for download, so you can try it before you buy it.

I LOVE Sure Cuts A Lot. It is definitely worth the money to not need to buy Cricut Cartridges anymore. I actually wrote a whole review on Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software on my blog (and you can find a coupon code there for 10% off too!) If you want to read my full review it is at:

Interesting the last few posts are from newbies.

BTW - anyone reading this. Also check into MTC. (make-the-cut) It's a fabulous program and Andy does FREE upgrades. BUYER BEWARE though... none of the 3rd party companies can work with cricut anymore but do work with other machines.

Also of note - newbies bringing up an old thread over an over. Just a sales gimmick.

It's someone who is an SCAL affiliate trying to drum up business. Kind of like people who link to Amazon and then get a cut of the sales.
