This is in addition to all of the challenges going on. It would be interesting to see this whole thread ONLY have photos taken from your kit lens. It might help some of the newbies getting ready to purchase their first dslr & might get some to either dig their kit lens out of their bag or get rid of it!

So dig one out & post it here! Don't forget to list which camera you used.

On my blog there are four images of a lotus blossom are various stages of maturity that were all taken with the kit lens. I won't post them here to not hog the conversation. But I have been overall pleased with the kit lens.

Hopefully this will work...

Thanks for posting this thought. I want to improve my basic photography knowledge and was thrilled when I got my Canon xti with a kit lense for Christmas this past year. I was feeling a bit like will I ever be able to capture really nice shots with this. I have alot to learn but at least I can see it is possible.

We are so good! You know, I am really starting to believe that every single lens has the potential to be a good copy (or a bad one). I definitely would not say to someone that asks "don't get the kit lens because it isn't any good". I think that these photos show that it CAN be a good lens!

Everyone jump in with yours! And if you have already posted some feel free to add more if you would like.

Here are two that I took back a while ago with my kit lens (before I purchased my 50mm). The only thing that I have done to these is 1) convert to B&W and eye pop 2) convert to sepia.

I don't post often. Usually just lurk to learn, but need to get better at playing so I can get some feedback. These were taken with a Sony A200 w/ 75-300 kit lens. I actually got 2 kits lens with my camera which is getting my by for now. I know I'll need to get something different when my daughter's gymnastics starts backup, with a lower f-stop.

Here are a few shots with the Canon EOS Rebel XSi (450d) with kit lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Image Stabilizer) All shot in manual mode, except for the first shot. That was shot in 'flash off' mode.

Sooc, ISO 800, F/5.6, SS 1/4 (tripod used) Manual focus - IS off
ISO 400, f/4.5, SS 1/100 - IS off
Sooc, ISO 200, F/5.6, SS 1/250, manual focus - IS on
I've had this camera for a week now and are very happy with this camera. The noise control at high ISO is GREAT! Note that properly exposing helps control nosie as well.

Hi, I'd like to join. If any thread applies to me, it's this one! I've had my Nikon D40 for a couple months now. I'm slowly trying the manual thing and ashamed to say most of mine are on auto 'til I get the hang of this. As you'll be able to tell, I've also started playing around with photoshop. Here's a couple...

I have shared this shot a few times here, but it is by far my favorite shot I got with my kit lens. Pentax K110D, 18-55mm lens f/22 @ 20" ISO 200.

If you click on it you can see a much larger version of it. This was taken long before I knew about trying to resize things, so it is huge.

Dana, you can't use "IMG", you have to use "image".

From Photo bucket, click on the "direct link" and then when you come in here, click "image" next to the color boxes and a box will pop up. Paste the direct link code there and it'll work.

For now, here are your images :

I had posted a separate thread before this one was posted of an experiment I did with the kit lens vs. the 50mm 1.8. In the right lighting, I am just as happy with the results from the kit lens. (It's in the dark winter months when I treasure the 50mm.)

Link here

And here's one I took last night with the kit lens and fell in love with.
